I left New World, why I am back

I left New World sometime around the end of January. I was a crafter, and felt that crafting was being driven out of the game, increasing the grind and resources needed, while at the same time making crafted gear unsellable because of Expertise being introduced.

I hated the whole GS/Expertise system, and I still do. The last straw came when I crafted an Orb to salvage for Umbral shards, because I wanted to upgrade my 599GS Void Gauntlet to 600. I got 3 Umbral shards out of that orb. It was going to take 125 shards to upgrade my Void Gauntlet a single point. That was it for me. I left. I still watched the forums hoping AGS would change course, and I still logged in from time to time just for fun…but no more than 30 minutes, then I would go back to my new game.

When I saw the February Patch notes, they indicated that AGS was finally “getting it” and stopped trying to force everyone into dungeons over and over. I hate dungeons. I like crafting, and PVP…but I hate dungeons, and without endlessly grinding the same dungeons over and over, there was no path to progression. I did the open world Gypsum stuff, but that got really old, really fast, and boring, and more like work than fun.

February patch changed that. Now I can play the way I want to play, and earn enough Gypsum or Umbrals to upgrade my Expertise and gear. Sure, it may not be as quick as dungeon runners, but I don’t care…I can play one evening and make a fair amount of progress, and that’s all I wanted.

In addition, the reduction in housing taxes are huge. I don’t mind paying taxes, but they were getting excessive for a weekly expense.

Adding faction tokens and umbrals to OPR…I can run OPR all day if I want to, and there are more players participating, so it is no longer sitting in queue for 4 hours and never getting it to pop. That is AWESOME!

Then, I just read the March PTR patch notes…and that confirmed what I had hoped…AGS is ACTUALLY working on making the game less tedious, more fun, a complete reversal of the prior 6 months.

I am happy because I love this game. I never made one of those “I am leaving” threads…I’m not that type. Nobody cares, and that’s fine.

But, for those who have stuck around through all of this, and seen the endless “I am leaving” threads, and watched as the server populations plummet week after week, and may be stuck on servers where bots outnumber players…I wanted to make this thread for those folks.

Yes…this game can recover from the wreckage of ill advised changes that has driven the vast majority of players away. If February and March patches are any indication, the Devs seem to have a real idea of what players want, and what direction to take the game.

It can work. New World can bring players back. I am proof.

Great post! But you have to admit you never really left by the sound of it lol.

I still watched the forums, waiting for a change of direction, or the final nail in the coffin, or to see if AGS just sold it to another company with a better development plan.

In the meantime, played other games.

100% agree, I’ve been hating on the game and bashing developers not because I didn’t like the game but because they started going in the wrong direction and on top of that they messed up a lot. But with the upcoming update I see that they actually care and want the game to succeed which makes me want to come back, I’ve really been enjoying Lost Ark but I started my steam download for PTR as I write this, looking forward to testing all these changes. If they manage to not mess up this update I’m sure more people will come back to at least give the new patch a try.

I myself refuse to play till they fix the combat, the que system is absolutely garbage and leads to misfiring skills constantly. Can’t play competitively like that

Can bring back players? Sure. Some hundreds, thousands maybe. But this game will never, ever get back to 50k peak players, let alone something beyond 100k.

I could see back up to 50k, but yeah not 100k

For the new dupe that was released with the Feb 28th patch.

i love the positivity.

Thanks, @Punty, for this ray of sunshine in what is often a very stormy forum. I’m with you, NW isn’t dead and can absolutely make a serious comeback.

I left the game in Desember as well. This March update is fixing a lot of issues that was part of why i left the game. They are making good progress in getting a lot of players back if they keep going like this!

While Players who never left quit because of the new bugs and the alpha state the February update add to the game.

What are the new bugs from February’s patch?

You mean like the new CC skill that turns your character into a human vibrator? :joy:

If that caused u to quit, then u never meant to stick around anyway. The Feb patch did not break anything, and the bugs are pretty minor, and should be fixed quickly.
