I started a petition to open PvP servers. Please sign it if you want PvP servers too

Let me explain: they would attack anyone with a bad reputation/enemy of a given town/territory, and even rove the territory hunting down noob gankers and the worst enemies of the people in that territory.

Stuff like this would be really cool, but first we need to get a flagged server. A PvP flagged server is a popular request because of the low dev time investment required. They can start adding other features on top once they do the initial task of actually offering a server.

And I’m not saying they didn’t make a mistake, but it is what it is. Pretending it’s something it’s not at this point isn’t going to help anything.
I wasn’t referring this forum, I was talking about the games I was using as comparisons. You know, about MMOs with generally happy PvP AND PvE players? And I also wasn’t talking about which single forum discussion was most popular, but which category (PvE or PvP) is discussed more in general… and I’d say the most I see on here is neither, but instead “omg the game is broken/dying” or ones about, even featuring, the infighting between the players… kind of like now, because you can’t reason that some people wouldn’t agree that the solution to the state of PvP is the addition of PvP servers.

What do you mean? That we should not correct mistakes? Not to even point them out? How does feedback even work then?

But this discussion currently attracts most engagement and is about a gameplay itself. And the most popular one in history of this forum is regarding stagger from preview combat. People are talking about things which matter.

But I need to know why? We just don’t understand why totally unrelated server to the current ones is not the way to go to revive OWPvP? Like a good reason.

“Correcting a mistake” and wanting to change the basics of how something fundamentally works are two different things. I also gave multiple good reasons why I don’t think more servers are a smart idea, you just don’t agree with them… doesn’t mean they’re not good because surprisingly, your opinion actually does not carry that much weight. And neither does mine haha so again, why argue? I think PvP servers would do more harm than good to the game and definitely would not fix any of the longterm issues New World faces, you seem to think they’re the perfect solution. We disagree. It’s that simple. And that’s okay.

I see what you’re saying about band aid fixes. Those are valid points.

However, I struggle to understand how offering PvP servers would do more harm than good, or any harm whatsoever for that matter.

Lack of open world PvP is in my opinion (just my opinion :slightly_smiling_face:) the biggest issue the PvP community faces in New World. The lack of it is shocking considering the amount of features that seem catered towards it. Each town reminds you that it doesn’t exist by telling you “you’re entering a PvP sanctuary” when you enter. It’s a massive missed opportunity considering how beautiful and expansive the world that AGS has created is. Instead, we sit in towns queuing for Arenas and OPR, which lost their freshness not long after releasing.

I don’t think the lack of Open World PvP will be solved by increasing flagging incentives. Besides angering the PvE community, there simply aren’t enough PvP minded players on each server to support lively and frequent open world PvP. We need a central server with force flagged PvP (in most zones) for all of the PvP players to centralize on. I don’t want a single spot where PvP exists (like GC). I want the whole world to feel dangerous and alive! Being able to advertise to the MMO community that NW has a “PvP server” would bring more players in as well.

I believe the optional flagging system is a flawed design, because it pits the incentives of PvP and PvE players against each other. It annoys PvE players and creates unfun situations for all parties where a PvP player kills a gatherer who doesn’t fight back, and was only flagged up for the gathering bonus.

If there’s support for open world PvP, a PvP server will allow us to show that with numbers, and then we can ask AGS for more features. Right now the foundation is broken, and fixing it is cheap! Let’s fix that first, then we can explore more shades of grey.

Once again, this is just my opinion. Obviously I feel strongly about it though lol

Allow me to share a few points that I think apply here:

  • The game already struggles to get servers full as is… if they continue to thin out the playerbase across even more, server numbers will get lower and lower. Again like I said before, nobody wants to play on low pop servers.
  • I know many people who love PvP would still not want to play on a server that constantly enforces it. New World has PvE features and people need to do those PvE features to progress in many aspects of the game. The constant worry of getting ganked or killed when you just want to chill and do something like chop down trees will be a turnoff for many.
  • The PvE crowd and PvP crowd also aren’t divided groups. Many like and enjoy both parts of the game. Both crowds also bring something to the game for the other group. PvP players handle the settlement and faction stuff. PvE players are maybe farmers and etc that keep the trading posts active for those who don’t have the time or desire to get mats/gear.
  • People, especially new and returning players, already complain about gear/level caps. A server that constantly had you flagged would make it even more stress playing catch up… making it less likely that those players would ever consider joining a PvP server.
  • If people are already not doing openworld PvP, it’s not because “nobody is doing it here so why should I”, it’s because there’s no REASON to do it. There’s no payoff outside of simply enjoying stumbling into random fights. And there’s no actual features for openworld play besides killing each other. Forts do nothing outside of trying to take over a settlement. Other MMOs that have openworld PvP have actual war/tactic style features. ESO has Cyrodiil, GW2 has a very similar system. Albion Online has many features that would warrant flagging or going into PvP areas. New World has nothing like that.
  • And this is speculation, but streamlining all the PvP players into their own little servers could be an excuse for AGS to continue procrastinating or not even considering to revamp their PvP, faction system, and adding new PvP features… and they already very clearly have kind of put PvP on the backburner. Especially if the PvP servers weren’t doing well, it could be used as a reason to further focus on PvE.

Again, no other game has PvE and PvP players at each other necks because of the rewards the other gets. AGS could easily figure out how to balance the rewards for PvP to be fair and in line with PvE based rewards. Also… PvP servers is not fixing the foundation, it’s isolating the problem. I also think NW players are missing the point as to why the game isn’t successful… I can ask anyone I know who quit NW at it’s launch or why they stand firm on never trying the game and it has absolutely nothing to do with a lack of openworld PvP with the current PvP/faction system.
I also feel strongly about this. I would love to see New World succeed… I just do not think more servers, especially PvP ones, are the answer… not in the slightest.

I feel you. I have different opinions, but that’s okay. To be honest, I’d be excited if they went either direction we’ve described.

Hopefully AGS notices the interest and is willing to capitalize on it!

Edit: but AGS for the love of God we need more open world PvP, not more instanced PvP

u guys didnt actually watched what happen to Themiscyra.

Good detailed post - I am gonna refute all of this:

The change is needed as people left the game for multiple reasons. But one huge of them was lack of OWPvP - which was selling point for some players. Naturally we are not talking about current playerbase thinning out the servers. We are talking about new/returning players. I for example played a game till level 30 always flagged got a fight every two hours and left the game. My friends straight up refunded the game when I told them about optional flagging. There is a demand for unscripted PvP - no doubt.

Thats why those PvP servers are not for them. Done. So those people will keep your server population happy. Matchmaking(whether dungeons or Arenas) in MMORPGs straight up kills the map - same with WoW same with NW same with any other WoW clone. You are playing the game as a menu for arcade games. Which is ironic for the MMORPG genre.

No. PvP engaging players also click rocks, sells/buys items, crafts them - does everything that hardcore PvE player does. Thats how it worked in any MMORPG. I am gatherer/crafter in Albion fighting players for those resources. And that is the reality for 90%+ of players in Albion, where characters are made out of 10 polygons. What does that tell you?

But those rules are the same for everyone in that server. So everyone just cries and still plays in PvP server? That is ridiculous. People who flags up in current state of the game is just straight up worse - you get target on back for practically no upside, at all. So nobody does it. There was a time when luck was introduced on flagging - flagging picked up. People are not afraid of PvP - it has to provide in terms of high risk/high reward . When that ratio was proven not to be as positive, flagging declined overtime. This is straight up data point for any to work with.

Because people are taking risks for nothing. High risk is not rewarded. Thats why nobody does it.

And that is good for AGS. They don’t need to make content when content is unscripted engagement between players. We are playing MMORPG right? When you are talking about PvP content - I just know you are talking about matchmaking. More arcades, which essentially divides playerbase within a server into those mini-games. Why play those shitty mini-games, when there are straight up better stand-alone versions of it? And if that PvP server fails, which you would like, then you get more PvE content? Wouldn’t you be happy? All we need is a try.

Then why people are talking about this? I and my party are those people. There are thousands like this.

lol why are you so mad that someone might have a differing view?

I think you’re confused because I’ve been talking about openworld PvP features? I have barely mentioned WoW here except for it’s PvP dailies quests that do consist of openworld objectives like “kill blank amount of players in said zone” and etc, nothing about it’s instanced PvP… and just because I’ve used ESO and GW2 as an example that do have dedicated zones for their take on openworld PvP does not change the fact that both of those games have better features, content, and rewards for it than New World.

Again, big difference here… Albion Online does not have servers (especially not ones that struggle to reach max population). It has a lone megaserver. And if you don’t think that makes a huge difference on the in game economies between Albion Online and New World then I don’t know what to tell you.

This part really doesn’t make sense to me and also just kind of proves my point as to why making PvP more rewarding and adding more openworld PvP features would be better? But okay haha

Again, I was never talking about matchmaking? I used the term “openworld” how many times??? Maybe calm down and read more thoroughly with a clear head before writing me paragraphs. And you’re right though, I would like them to fail. At this point I might sign the petition (that has taken months to even get near 1k, so what does that tell you really) just so AGS can see that slapping on new servers isn’t going to magically make their game better or more popular… but actually investing time, money, and effort into reworking or adding features would.

The only people that talk about this are in this game. Never seen any other MMO community throw fits about this. The infighting between players is just insane at this point. Kind of like right now.

pvp server ? NO !
New World MMO with pvp ? YES ! :four_leaf_clover:

That is big take. Why do you think refuting someones points is being mad?

Those daily PvPs are in this game and there is a demand for PvP server. Why? Maybe its shitty implementation or maybe because they gutted the major point of player engagement they had and were left with a year to implement what GW2 or WoW has. And to reverse this - there is a simple implementation. Enable U automatically.

What difference in economy structure will make me stop clicking rocks in NW? Or crafting for that matter?

But they can scrap it all by enabling U. Which one is easier: to enable U on separate server or to do analysis and then build content around that part?

Okey. What do you think is a reward in MMORPG game? Because I believe this is where we mainly don’t understand each other.

Because by the PvP content you mean some sort of rails. There is no need for rails in OWPvP.
Just enable U and you are good.

Well I am long gone from the game. I come here to refute arguments/have fun and hope that AGS will give us at least that PvP server. Then ill bring back my crew.

Because I already stated that we have different opinions and views, but you insist on continuing this nonsense.
You also clearly don’t understand what my stance on the subject even is so this is definitely the last time I’ll bother to respond here. Like seriously, I’ve already said like three or four times now that I do not think the current PvP system in New World, especially the faction stuff, and including the dailies you mentioned here, are good enough to be worth doing for the average player of any kind… and a PvP server won’t change that.
For the economy part, the point isn’t you personally wouldn’t be able to farm and craft… but that there could be a drop in materials, gear, etc being sold and inflation (another thing NW players already constantly complain about) would be even worse on the PvP servers for the players who don’t want to do those things as much.
And if you’re thinking about this from the perspective of “what’s easier”, then you’re really not thinking about what’s BEST for the game. What’s easier is definitely not better.
I also don’t feel like explaining what should be common knowledge ideas for PvP rewards either since I’m typing on my phone right now.
Again, I am done here since we are just going in circles hahahahaaaa so bye, I hope you and your friends will get to experience the “greatness” you think PvP servers will be if AGS is stupid enough to add them. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are so good luck to you.

Its not an opinion problem - its that you based that opinion on assumptions and generalizations which are provably false. I am living proof of that. Albion is living proof of this. But for you this does not exist. I am trying to paint you a picture what PvP players are like, but for you economy dies. What?

Totally unrelated server is launched - every other server will die. What?

Like what is this even:

Lets those dailies which are not working continue, because it should be enough for a simpleton. And if you get PvP server it will not make OWPvP alive(the main issue). What?

Like Albion does not exist - it is fairy land to you. I am telling you that players fight for resources there. 1 on 1, 2 v 1, small scale. But for you only I craft/gather. Like people do this to progress for real - but for you they don’t. Essentially market forces will cease to exist on PvP server. What?

It literally fixes the main issue we have - OWPvP being dead, with no downside, quickly. But for you lets invest resources and time to do the same thing but with more glitter and see what happens. What?

Thats why its confusing. Like reasoning is: I dismiss what is really happening and then those ideas work.

I hope that they will. Thank you for your blessing.

We currently have this and OWPvP is dead. Welp.

What is this?

They wont, they already said that in a dev video last month LOL

Haven’t seen this. Okay I will wait then, because you are losing players. There is time when it will start hurting.
