I think AGS needs to address the state of the game officially

Yeah I mean I get this. It’s pretty much a damned if you do, damned if you don’t kind situation. It depends on where the game is for them specifically. If the game is indeed on the verge of shuttering, being honest about that could potentially hasten the population drop to an extreme. But not being totally trasparent also causes a divide in the players and trust is diminished.

In that situation that they do come out right and say it, one would hope that the community would band together and push to keep the game going, pulling in the numbers, but I don’t feel like that would be the case sadly.

I’ve heard it on here before, but announcing an expansion would ideally answer everyone’s question haha

great post, i’ll be watching this. It does seem like they aren’t really covering this at all, like they haven’t acknowledged the elephant in the room, which is… the state of this game currently. Id love to hear what they have to say, pretty much everything you said. Lets see what happens.

quit about 3 months after launch, just came back, they have done tons of work, tons of goodchanges, added alot of cool content, the issue is, NO GAME, i repeat, NO GAME can keep up with the content demands of players now days, 10 years ago, gaming was still the wild west, not acknowledged as a true competitive sport, not taken as a way to make a living, was a childs hobby at most… games had less content, but took way longer to get to end game, and deff toook way longer to get burned out… You guys are simply playing the game wayyyyy too much, of course when u were in highschool playing wow, seemed the content was fun and lasted forever… u didnt get to play all day every day and grind ur ass off, watch youtube guides that save u hours of work and exploring… THe reason games blow up , then die so fast, is cause players play like crack addicts now… do everything the most viable and quickest way using guides and videos, its simple to understand why games seem to be less now days.

In what state the game must be if you can’t even swim? wtf

then why release a game with so poor content? Upcoming mmos will have much more content than this one.

no they wont, they will get plowed through jsut like every new mmo, and by new mmos u mean the ones who no one knows will even release lol or are 2-3 years away…

I’ll save everyone some time:

“Everything is fine, nothing to see here, move along people.”

You’re welcome.

Thanks for enjoying the post! They’ve been cranking out some transparency and I do and don’t believe this post maybe caused them or helped them release that dev video recently. Literally not even a full 24 hours after I made this we got a dev update, seems suspicious but not certain.

The problem is that we need more. It’s tricky because you don’t want over promising, but you do want to level with people. I think it’s a change worth pursuing. Just look at how transparent FF14 devs are with their players. That should be the gold standard. Yoshi P has already come out and said that the game has at least 10 years to go. We need something simular.

We got a roadmap til end of year, but what comes after? Waiting to announce that is not doing them any favors. They need to come out before then and just say something along the lines of, “We got a lot of work, but we’re here to stay for years to come, you can look forward to many content updates, patches, and even expansions.” It’s vague yes, but it shows their intent and passion. We need that. So whoever at AGS is reading this, push this to the leads.

Everyone if we can get the comment/like count to be the highest this site has seen. We’re bound to get even further transparency. Post like you’ve never posted in your life XD keep posting, let’s drive this home, state of the game video, not just a dev update even though that was great, more insight is needed, does this game live past the roadmap, let’s rally, post like post

If they put out an honest video it would sound something like,

“We don’t know wtf we’re doing, we played WoW for 2 years once and thought we knew everything so we just copied everything we could from other MMOs and mashed them together and now we don’t know what to prioritize because its so out of control.”

So they can’t do that.

What if they just came out and said:

“We only have so many ideas and you keep burning through that content so fast that we are forced to nerf everything you enjoy and timegate anything you prefer to do, or we’d be out of our jobs”

We would say. “What did you expect from gamers? Did you do any market research on MMO players habits?”

But they loooove metrics. Surely they did.

then they should have known there would be thousands of streamers competing to do all the content and show it all off on youtube. its simple stuff. and they were expecting it!

The devs just show us time and time again that they doesnt have the team, resources or experience to make a good MMO game. There isnt any progress being made, rather backwards and i believe they are working with a skeleton crew just to pump out the last bit of money before shutting it down. And if that isnt the case, the people in charge of this mess should find something else to do.

Everyone doubting this should see the video called " Death of a Game: New World" where the dude just show that every dev responsible for anything at this game have no relevant experience to MMO games or the lumberyard engine. Everyone that actually built this game from the ground up left a long time ago. And the guys in charge now is just keeping it online (barely) to bring in some money from the initial investment from AGS before shutting it down. Death of a Game: New World

Eh, it’s a stretch to say they’ve added a lot of cool content. They added a new dungeon (which is admittedly cool), incrementally scaling mob difficulty to some existing dungeons, two weapons, and 3v3 arenas.

I’ll concede that it could be argued that the Expertise cap bump, gypsum, shards, PvP tracks, etc. are content, but I personally don’t view it as content, just more mindless grind and more ways to mindlessly grind.

You’re right that no-lifer addict players are entirely too vocal (a lot of people here and on reddit have put more time into New World than a full-time job every week since its launch), but my guess is that they’re still a tiny minority of all people who ever played the game – it’s pretty well established at this point that MMORPGs live and die by their casual populations, and something about New World is not able to sustain a casual player base.

You’re wrong about gaming 10 years ago being the “Wild West,” however. Online gaming was pretty established in 2012, lol. Mists of Pandaria and Guild Wars 2 came out. Rift, Tera, and SWTOR were out. The genre was booming.

Also, I don’t know about you, but I had WAY more time to play video games in high school than I do in my mid-thirties.

45 likes and devs dont write one single word in this post. I think that silence tell all. They cant come here and write all is fine for new world we have great plans because it will be clearly a lie. And if they come here to tell the truth may be they will end to kill the game so better let this post earn likes and do like it didnt exist. In some way is pathetic? may be.

This game need a miracle to rebirt because lake in so many aspects that MMos AAA in 2022 had and the new ones will have. A lot of funny end game content. The MMO genre is fighting for their end game content with a variety of Lore mixed with dungeons, World Boses, Outworld Features, PvP Outworld and instanced features, Naval action and lot, lot more. What offers New World? u think 1 mill players left because game is fun? is this game really competitive with AAA MMos that will come? or are in the market yet? How many features will have throne and liberty when comes out and how many will have new world? I think all of us know the anwers but well we play 2k+ hours enjoyed some aspects of the game , hated so many other but well i think this game cant fly no more. I dont see a dev team with the power, motivation and knoledge to make this game amazing. I see a dev team that finally get a release making a game so fast copy pasting lot of Npcs , mobs, making poor quest line and lore, copy pasting lot of maps, Put features like factions and that PvP placeholder misions , azoth travel, local comerce, local banking with no idea that what game are they making. Also now a days 8 months later game still stucked and they are clearly didnt know what way will must take, are totally lost in the darkness taking bad decisions followed by bad decisions.

So u think they will come here to tell you that their dev team is 50% fired? or tell you that the new expansion map will have only one dungeons and 3 npcs/mobs and they copy pasted rest of things? the poor playerbase that already log in is waiting for a miracle with that expansion but … to be hones one new dungeon some more mobs will not make this game fly

If NW devs need any help figuring out how to properly communicate and discuss issues with the players they should take a look at the dev video posted by newly released The cycle: frontier game. These guys now how to properly address issues and not some PA bullshit statements covering everything up or just not speaking about it at all. Dev Update - Pre-Season Patch - YouTube

If NW devs can adopt this kind of communication and actually make improvements based on feedback in short time the game could actually be saved

Is incredible how many people knows about game design and game development, even more than current devs with 10, 15 and 20+ years of experience. For those thinking they have zero experience, they actually have devs with more than ten years of experience in MMOs.

The game is better every new month and this genre needs time, how many MMOs started as “good” games? 10% of them? I still remember all the hate and bad reviews with ESO launch back in the days, and see how they managed to not maintain the game but increasing the numbers slowly.

This is not about what game WE need, its about some devs making the game THEY want. This is their vision, if we don’t like it, stop playing is the best option. If you still enjoy it, keep playing.

Still amazes me how some players waste their free time playing a game they don’t like anymore. We can always come back to check how the game is in the future.

All my support to AGS devs, from a random guy testing and playing MMOs since 1997.

No it isn’t. Their vision was Dark Souls in a persistent online world. That’s what the game was built as, that’s what the vision was, and it was a monumental success from the moment people first got their hands on it.

You know what happened then? Then people who’s primary genre was PvE MMO’s got in and started demanding more focus on PvE, less focus on PvP, less focus on the original vision, and they listened. Now we have this directionless shitshow, where the vision is nowhere to be found. Just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks and pray it stems the hemorrhaging of players.

I am all on board with the idea of playing the games the devs want. That game was fantastic. Bring back stagger, bring back full time pvp, remove the opt in pvp system, stop focusing on PvE. THAT is the dev’s game they want to make, and did make.
