There has been something bothering me about trophies, and it is not about the scarcity of the materials.
It never made sense to me that a combat trophy would be hanging on a wall in a house miles away from where combat was actually happening.
To me, those trophies should be on the weapons themselves, there for you to brandish at your enemies.
That got me thinking about what does and does not work with the current trophy system.
So let us start at where I think the trophies make sense being something on a wall that passively buffs something:
-
Armoring, Engineering, Weapon smithing, cooking etc. - In my head, this makes sense as it is a buff you get while in a town you have house in.
-
Fishing/Skinning - Hanging a fish you caught or a buck you have shot is just fitting.
Thins that I think don’t work as something that should just hang on the wall:
- Combat trophies - I think these should be able to hang off your weapons. This is why I think this. Swapping trophies for Mutators and having to fast travel from house to house is just annoying. This would make it so you can swap these out super quick.
But doing this means you would only have two trophies for Combat so there would need to be a change to how this works. I think you could make a case for reducing the amount needed to two trophies for combat trophies.
-
Gathering Trophies - I also think these should be charm style like the combat trophies. However, you don’t have to widdle them down to 2 cause you aren’t locked into it like you are with weapons. What I think would be really cool is to make these trophies Tiered and as you get Tier 1, 2 and 3 you see stat buffs like this:
Tier 1: Gathering Speed buff Tier 2: Gathering Yield Buff Tier 3: Gathering Luck buff
Maybe for these, instead of being charms, you could use gems and socket them to the gathering tools.
Either way, this was my idea dump. Have at it forums. Any good ideas buried in here?
