I was addicted. Now I see no reason to log on

I really loved this game starting from launch. The progression was exciting - I loved the dungeons, elite zones, arenas, and wars, I enjoyed the graphics and travelling around the world and into different zones, collecting all sorts of materials and crafting as well. However, after only a few weeks, I cannot find any more enjoyment in this game.

Here is why:

PvE

At level 60, I feel I am constantly low on coin, and have to often rely on wars or invasions to fund just about anything. The marketplace is so poorly designed where we have a deflating economy, and everyone is trying to dump a majority of their items in before prices reach 0.

Often times when I sign up for invasions I just get kicked repeatedly so that the defending company can get more of their members in. Even when I do get into the invasion, it is pretty much a guaranteed loss, as some players hardly contribute, and the difficulty is very high.

Crafting is pretty much worthless until max level as I can just kill random mobs for fairly high GS drops (570+)

Gathering professions are highly imbalanced due to the upgrading tier system of materials. Since you require several tier 1 materials to make tier 2 then tier 3 and so on, the most valuable resources are Tier 1, while the least valuable are tier 3-5. This is not very rewarding for putting a significant amount of time into one skill.

There are not enough new resources to be gathered while progressing skills. (Some skills have nothing new between level 101-174. This is incredibly tedious if you want to get to the next tier resource.

Tuning orbs are extremely expensive and time consuming to make. (I don’t think I’ve seen anyone craft a level 60 dungeon orb yet and for good reason) It takes several large corruption caches to obtain this one component, with no other available sources. Even if we were to disregard the corrupted stones, the other components cost well into the 1,000’s of coins which you will not get back from completing the dungeon.

Many late game activities are still bugged including myrkguard corruption caches, end game dungeon chests (assuming they arent meant to always drop lower tier (500-510 items), broken elite zone bosses (despawned/hidden)

PvP

Faction quests have no variety - way too repetitive.

Few players find it worth it to even flag for PvP unless doing faction quests.

Wars almost always contain the same people and often have the same outcome. One group of 20-30 well coordinated players can pretty much control an entire server, with no limits to how many wars they can be a part of (unless multiple wars happen at the same time). It isn’t fun going into war knowing full well you are going to lose whether you give it your all or not.

Weapons are very imbalanced in PvP. Musket is pretty much useless in wars, and bow isn’t much better due to firing time vs. healing output by healers, food, and potions. Not enough healing cuts exist in the game to make certain weapons viable in wars. (Meta is CC lock/AoE)

Wars can be laggy even on higher end computers, especially when there are lots of ice gauntlets and life staff users. (Players appear to stand still and/or teleport around while fighting in large groups)

While the lead up to max level is not by any means perfect, the late game is disappointing. It makes me genuinely wonder is anyone really play tested this content and asked - “is this fun”?

I do think this game has a lot of potential, but as of right now I’m not really interested continuing on with New World.

You played hard. Maybe take a break, come back in a month or two when a larger number of folks get to 60 and the Devs have take care of the bigger issues. If not, best of luck. Hope your next game scratched the itch a little better.

I plan on it. I’m just hoping we don’t lose too much of the existing high level playerbase within that time frame. Once the main quest is done, many players are finding the late game stale.

If the storage capacity wasn’t so atrocious, people would hold onto their goods longer as they watched the market for ebb and flow.

There are potions you can make that raise the gearscore of crafted items, if I’m not mistaken. It provides an extra bump - but you’re not wrong. Unless it’s food or potions, it’s pretty much useless.

This is the most glaring problem with the idea of tuning orbs. Locking them behind keys that require such an expensive input of resources is just asinine. Not sure what they were thinking there.

This brings up an interesting point - the monopoly of the one big draw to the game. I can’t say I disagree with the way the governor and the faction can mostly control who participates, it’s glaringly obvious this entire mechanic is busted and needs some sort of rehaul that doesn’t include locking it out from over 85% of the playerbase.

I’d recommend compartmentalizing the wars that are involved in taking over a territory. Instead of a single war, implement several, each with their own objective(s), and the faction that wins, say, two out of three of these, or three out of five, takes over the territory.

I’m going to have to disagree with you here. They’re incredibly effective - if you know what you’re doing. A well coordinated musket team can effortlessly tank an enemy’s siege line. A lot of people are dogpiling muskets right now because they don’t fully realize the musket’s potential.

This has effectively broken the entire game with regards to Wars and territory control. It needs to be fixed immediately, because at this time, there are companies that shall rename nameless that are brazenly abusing this problem.

Overall some of your concerns are not really big issues, and others are, for lack of a better term, damning to the integrity of the game. Most of them have been beaten to death too, so hopefully AGS is already ontop of it and we see some hotfixes in the near future.

They are tough to please. I wouldn’t worry about that “base” of 60s that have been there for a while. The patient will stay (or take a break), the impatient will leave. Folks predicted that well before launch through all the hype.

My concern lies in the average peeps that can’t play 10 hours a day. The Devs don’t have an endless hourglass, they’ve definitely got to get the major stuff fixed (server transfers, exploits, and OR) pretty quick.

God made me an optimist and there’s nothing I can do about it. I’m sticking around for the long haul.

@TacoDude thank you, and I do not think anyone could express it better (for those feeling similarly).
