I agree the old builds on IG are not as efficient, but playing Spike/Windchill/Storm to maximize the new Ultimate Chill system is actually effective for DPS. It a misrange IG playstyle, and works best with Rapier. It also works well with the new Runeglass Ice buffs. It is completely different to the IG we all knew, but there are new possibilities as well.
Blocking stamina is actually quite good, just not a lot of people know that it’s blocking can save your life when all your abilities are on cd.
I’ve been using frozen touch recently, on paper it seems good but in reality you never notice if you slowed someone with it, I’d like the threshold to be something like 80% as well,
You can definitely still use ice gauntlet as your main damaging weapon, you just have to be proficient in hitting ice spike, something like spike/storm/shower or spike/storm/emtomb with net shot/shrapnel blast/blast shot works quite well for small scale pvp
Other then that I agree with everything in this post, ice gauntlet is fine but wind chill and some perks could use a look on.
Just give it up…
we talk about this stuff for Months…
they don’t care…
It just do not feel impactfull.
And I would like to trade of some utility for dmg… I want to be a frost mage.
Also can be do something about lazy animations?
Light attack throws a little snowball.
Heavy attack slowly deform the snowball into a lone pike.
Heavy charged attack, for an ice spear, that is just the Javelin ability reskined, but with same feel to it. No knockdown though.
I just want to be able to be a dps ice mage, throwing ice lances/javelins were you lead your shot or loop it. But with the feel of power when it is launched.
Ice Spike is very much a save or suck skill. I’ve been trying to use it lately and you really need a hard CC to set it up but it IS the ice gauntlet hard CC. I would really like to see the skill get a bit more forgiveness in it.
- Perhaps it’s a bit wider path, but it only roots unless you hit the Mighty Spike
- Have the path do more damage, but give it a longer cooldown
- The perk for this is just too esoteric to bother with. It could use something totally new.
^ or something along those lines.
Ice Shower is just not very effective, and it’s hard to justify a precious skill slot for it.
Wind Chill is a bad version of Flamethrower.
Overall I think the ice gauntlet passives are pretty solid, and Ice Storm and Pylon are good, solid skills, especially if you have the perks.
I have the following suggestions
Ice Spike
- will now trigger its detonation at the location of and when it deals travel damage (instead of at the end of its max travel range).
Windchill
- A single Gust that deals a strong pusback (10m) and slows for 3 seconds for 50% with moderate damage (60-80%). it should have a cd less than 10 seconds
Pylon
- Now has a hotkey option to force it to target a target you order it to (left click + key to force the target)
- had a 5 meter range on frosted area by default
- increase duration by 3 seconds
- reduce cd to 0 seconds but limit of 1 per active at a time.
Storm
- Slower Ticks but much large ones. This will help the server and it will also make mage damage do more burst which is needed for pvp.
Ice shower
- add damage to it by default and make the perk deal its current value on top (maybe a 40% Tick?)
Ultimate Chill
- The mage will now apply frosted area below his feet every few seconds for 2m range.
what is heavy charged attack? i’ve seen it mentioned a couple of times but have no clue what that means?
also not sure why people seem to dislike windchill so much. aside from it being a bit clunky sometimes same as most stuff in the game. could probably widen the beam a bit and i’d be happy. damage wise it seems way better than storm and spike to me.
Heavy charged attack is when you keep pressed left mouse button until it attack.
The bigger issue about wind chill is channeling, ice storm you can use it and make some basic attacks or run.
Spike does a lot of damage but is hard to hit.
Nice take
I would decrease spike damage if it happens to make it more balanced due better accuracy, don’t you agree?
Ultimate frost or ultimate chill? Cause I think ultimate chill is strong now.
Yes please.
Also a good suggestion both for balance and performance
Good suggestion
I would love it
Agreed, I wish it too
Lower damage or keep i, due root to spike and path bonus damage?
I don’t think so. I’d like to test for now to be sure.
Ultimate Frost, that was my bad.
My mindset is there are these talents that buff standing on icey area’s but its not all that active. It forces the mage to melee and run circles around pylon which imo is silly.
I think it’d be best to shift Defiant freeze to grant fort if standing on frosted area’s.
My mindset is to shift windchill ti something like typhoon in wow. a “peel” team oriented spell that will help move mage into a better control position in pvp allowing the frost mage to peel melee off team members. I am very much about such team-oriented mechanics.
Btw, I want to say if you want to see really amazing frost animations you should check out the animations for cyromancer in skyforge.
This game has the best combat related animations i have ever seen. Even suprior to what we did at blizzard
For sure Pylon needs some targeting attention. In lieu of micromanaging it, just having it prioritize the target you are attacking would be a help. Right now it tends to pull extra mobs into whatever fight you are in.
Being able to dismiss it early would also be QoL.
Ice Spike does good damage when you pop that final hit. I think it just needs to be a bit more balanced toward when you don’t, while retaining the reward for hitting it. There’s a lot of ways it could be changed.
in fact the animations were good, it even has an escape ability, sliding on ice.
So many good ideas since I last visited
happy to see that some share the love for IG.
Also sorry for all the typos.
I really hope AGS will rework IG, it could be soo much more.
Get inspired from the dead game SpellBreak, it had ice guantlets as well, and they had a snipe that was an Ice Lance.
For PvE I would like the following changes to ice gauntlet:
Icestorm benefitting from conversion gems
Ice pylon not having its own seperate threat list, but all threat goes to the player. IMO the only way Ice Pylon should die in PvE is from AOE or Cleave. Currently you can also cheese a lot of bosses with pylon, such as last boss in genesis. Having mobs not target pylon directly would help immensely.
Pylon Dodge works with any weapon active.
Desummon Ice Pylon cuts cooldown by -20%
I think reducing ice spikes potential damage done, but increasing the likelihood hood of it hitting would be a good change. Maybe even add a outline of where the ice spike will go, similar to the outline of ice storm.
Ice spike should hit similar, but maybe a bit harder than fireball.
I think it would be fun to make an ice spike build for PvE.
Iced shower could use a stronger rend. Maybe make it 20% like it was before.
Heavy freeze could use a shorter cooldown or you should be able to freeze people twice before the cooldown starts.
it’s been a while since the last post but recently the devs said they’re going to focus on our feedbacks, I’m in disbelief but I’m waiting for their updates.
