Ice Storm Appears to Apply +35% Ultimate Chill Ice Damage Bonus Twice

  • What is your character name in New World:
    Fwirl

  • What server/world did you experience your issue on:
    Camelot

  • Describe the issue you are experiencing:
Ice Gauntlet Damage gets double +35% Ultimate Chill passive damage increase.

  • Is this a bug or an exploit:
    bug

  • (if a bug) How did the issue effect your gameplay:
Ice Gauntlet is hitting harder than intended (82.5% instead of 35% more damage) by developers and specified by skill tree tool tips.

  • (if a bug) Were you able to recover from the issue:
No, this affects all ice gauntlets.

  • (if a bug) Please include a screenshot or video of the issue that you have experienced:
IG Heavy vs Heavy Storm vs Heavy Storm Rend - YouTube

  • What are the steps to reproduce the issue as you experienced:

The video shows reproduction steps:

icy shower’s 10% Rend & Ultimate Chill’s 35% dmg increase, vs a lvl 60 with 700 armor:

I grabbed a random ice gauntlet and have 5 INT to test damage numbers myself (after reading on the forums IG was bugged in an unclear reporting).

  1. IG Heavy Atk does 261 dmg.
  2. With Ice Storm applied, it does 478 dmg (+83%).
  3. With Ice Storm & Icy Shower (10% rend), it does 527 dmg (+102%).

The relative lift in the last two damages (adding 10% rend) matches the expected damage increase that comes from around 10% dmg absorption reduction for 700 armor being about a 10% dmg increase.

Here’s a test with the same target player showing just icy shower alone causing a 10% damage increase from the 10% rend:

The bug appears to be the 83% dmg increase from heavy attacking a target inside ice storm (vs not affected by ice storm), which does not match the expected +35% dmg increase from the Ultimate Chill Ice Gauntlet passive.

82.5% is however 1.35*1.35, so it seems like the 35% dmg bonus is being applied twice (perhaps because Ice Storm hits so rapidly?), when it is supposed to be applied only once.

Any insights into why this outcome is observed are welcomed in the coments.

Best,

This would also explain why people are getting hit so hard by autos from the IG. During my own tests it seems to be autos that are damage ramping, as ability damage scales up by 35% as you would expect.

This is absolutely gamebreaking and has been mentioned multiple times in other threads aswell.
Can we get a comment? @Luxendra

bump

Show your ice gauntlet spec.

Okay, so this is why I suddenly died from a ice storm in outpost, I thought I just lagged

Its actually more than just your damage being amped, it appears to apply to all allies damage as well, making it obscenely powerful in large group combat. in our tests, my friend went from hitting around 280 non-crits, to hitting 800+ non-crits while hitting an enemy in my ice storm. Tanks, bruisers, and heavy armor healers are dying instantly.

To make this test more valid, you should both have shown your current ice gauntlet and your ice gauntlet skill tree.

10% rend => 10% less damage reduction = 10% increased damage taken is consistent.
For some strange reason ultimate chill does affect all damage dealt, this is something I have obeserved too, but not at your numbers.
Instead I have seen a flat +10% to all damage and +45% to frost damage, reducing this to +0% and +35% would provide the correct result.

Maybe your test produces this results because of the conversion gem (see the lightning damage increase) in your ice gauntlet.

I’m not seeing your numbers…

Mine are:
Heavy Attack: 1139
Heavy Attack with storm: 1921

That’s 68% increase

My percentage increase comes from:
35% Ultimate Chill Bonus
10% Punishing Storm talent
12% from my gem which is Cruel IV (12% increase to CC’d targets)
=57% increase (I don’t know where I’m missing 10% from??)

but that is def not what you said with a 83% increase…

btw testing for this like you did, don’t be using a gem that changes part of the damage to a different type. Show your skills you picked, show the weapon and make sure whoever your “dueling” with is naked. Kinda like what the other guy said…

Thank you I was wondering how I was getting melted every time I got stuck by an ice weapon and can’t move then all the sudden I’m dead 13K HP gone. It’s bad enough you literally can’t move out of ice abilities. Now you get frozen and then melted inside too!

Its the same damage the OP has in his video.
261+174 = 435
478+242 = 720
increase of ~ 65%

ah yes…i was just going by what he said…whoops

do you know where my extra 10% is from?

No clue by the information the game is providing.
Maybe they added a 10% increase somewhere that is just not reflected on the tooltips.

Good, concise, and fair report. Unlike the other unclear posts before this my guess is it might have to do with the dmg modifier mods that IG has that somehow stacks together or maybe the Ultimate is simply stacking twice up to 70% but dunno where the 12.5% would come from. Really wish AGS could improve their UI if they have no plans of being more clear and transparent into how they even calculate their dmg. I swear, I genuinely can’t trust this game’s UI when it comes to describing a function that involves numbers or a complex enough coding.

it’s not stacking…read the posts above yours…lol

Just experienced this today, ice storm is broken like hatchet, needs to be fixed asap, what’s happening is that the ice storm hits twice every proc, with the increased damage and rend, you are going to lag while inside and after dying too, it kills you in 2-3 seconds after casting it

the dmg is fine. the problem with your test is the fcking INT Conversion Gem which breaks the IG/FS. If I equip a 20% arcane gem into the firestaff i deal 3500crits on a lvl 17 mobs instead of 3000 crits, this is constant the same dmg as i was farming leather for 30minutes.

The next problem with the conversion gem then is, it gimps your spells. Sure go ahead for the autohits, but your overall dmg output is gonna be poor at 2+ targets which the firestaff/ig excels.
Please test your stuff correctly and stop saying nonsense, all these random reports…

well i think i found the answer lol.

1656 Heavy normal
2600 in icestorm = 1656*(1,35+0,12+0,1) = 2599,92

The 0,10 extra is from the Firestaff empower, which can happen if you switch weapons… jesus
