Idea Suggestion: Pack Mule NPC

Hello AGS,

My suggestion is to have a Pack Mule npc that is unlocked via a quest at a certain level. Whether it can be rented by the hour at a local stable in a township. Or be it permanently used on a timer per game session say every 3 hours or so.

Also, the mule requires food and drink every hour, and if you give the mule booze it collapses, lol.

The weight the pack mule can carry is depended on the player level overall. This is a non-player mount so it adheres to the current AGC game mechanic philosophy.

Cheers!

I came here to suggest something similar. Perhaps make this a purchasable upgrade? It would be really helpful to call upon it in-game, when people like me, who collect everything … become over-encumbered multiple times in a day! xD

If it’s a mule/or a donkey, I vote its name should be saddlebags!

Cheers!

I like this. Would be nice for crafters to have a pack horse / mule or something and i understand people who dont want mounts. But at least something like this for crafters i would love

Yeah, like the Ox in Albion Online. Would be cool to have. Or a pet like in Torchlight!

You could tie it to your camp, set it up to where you drop goods off at a storage “mailbox” at your camp and it gets “shipped” to a storage of your choice. Then there is a timer like in BDO based on distance away to get to destination. It could be an upgraded camp via quest, and could also have a percentage faster upgrade in territory standing. A NPC could be created in towns that can give quest to link the major settlements so maybe it could also be integrated into moving mats between towns. It would cost coin to ship and be based on weight. Town boards could have quest for food for the animals and materials needed for upkeep of stables for the animals. Could have an upgrade path in towns that starts with just like mules that can only move a set amount of weight, and move up to oxen and carts that can move more at a time. Just spit balling. I don’t think the world is big enough for mounts. The fast travel is just fine for getting around. But that is just my opinion.

Hi There,

A purchasable item would be dicey. Players would complain of pay to win and such.

Over a decade ago I recall playing in the original Guild Wars 1 Mmo. Players who solo’ed had access to Npc guards sorta like in Mass Effect as npc group members. That too would be interesting but would defeat the need of grouping with real players.

The issue with this falls into their anti mount lore for the game world. So, you would have to get a hireling. Which I’m totally for. But hirelings are broke, so maybe you have to supply the bags yourself. This’ll increase the purchase for runes of holding and the bag making already in game. offer someone to help you carry stuff, but maybe have the distinct risk of if the hireling is attacked they could die. Make how many bags they can utilize based on level or how much you pay for the hireling.

I get where you are coming from, it would be interesting to have a little pack mule with you and would be pretty cool. BUT I don’t really see the need or feel like many people would use it, other then maybe if they wanted to be cheap and move materials from one destination to the other if it was not owned by their faction. I feel like the game is more then lenient when it comes to carry weight, giving us a starting 300 lbs as well as not counting equipped armor, tools, potions and ammo against us?! Plus the bag slots you can unlock by leveling up just add more inventory you can hold (I think just 1 tier 2 bag can add anywhere from 140 to 150 lbs?). I have currently equipped 3 uncommon bags (I forget if they are tier 2 or 3) but they alone have my inventory up near 800 lbs. Not to mention they can give perks to allow certain materials to weigh less or give you an extra like 60 lbs or so!

I’m not sure I agree, having played other MMO’s I’ve found a one-off payment for this upgrade, to be useful. They aren’t always with you either, they are summoned and once you are done they disappear. People will buy it if they have a need for it.

Yeah but a paid for option in an already paid for game? No it should be something you unlock, and should feel rewarding for the player when they do achieve it. Shops get way to out of hand over monetizing their games. I hope that Amazon doesn’t follow suit however I feel that wont be the case with this game. No game shop is good. I find the prices in this shop a bit steep for the skins they offer.

It would definitely be something you’d have to pay for with in game gold, and preferably rent. I’d say 10 minute increments with a max of one hour. Based on how far away you are from town they will just begin returning and leave everything in your storage (make sure you have extra space for it all)

Ok I see the anti mount lore and actually like it. So what about a camp storage teleport. You store it at camp and you can chose to teleport items to storages in towns. You would have to have room at the incoming Storage and it could cost (based on weight) Azoth to transfer? I like the camp idea and would like to expound upon it. I would also like to go to a place and grind for a while without having to head back every 20 mins. Huh I wonder if lore wise you could form a contract with a corrupted lost that forces them to transport your stuff via the portals they can open?
