Some players are saying that the aggro is supposedly screwed up in this game because they are getting chased by 4 or 5 or 6 mobs or more from quote âvery far awayâ and with seemingly ârandom and no logic to it.â And that itâs supposedly messed up because mobs will suddenly switch and go and attack another character.
I donât think that people are really saying that mobs aggro randomly and no logic to it. I think what they mean is that some of the design choices in how aggro is determined feels like there is no logic to it. Multiple times while attacking creatures, Iâve had them turn and run and attack a nearby person who did nothing to the mob. Clearly the coding logic is that if the mob gets aggroed it incorporates things like distance and damage dealt, and at some point the distance outweighs the damage dealt and it results in the mob deciding to go after someone completely unrelated. People call this random because it should not logically work this way. Other times Iâve had mobs spawn right in front of me as I was looting and depending on what mobs they are, they would either instantly aggro me or just ignore me as I walk away. Obviously there is âlogicâ behind it as it is all code, but clearly the logic doesnât fully make sense and isnât consistent based on the mobs.
I think whatâs happening here is that power levelers are reacting to something they donât like, which is that sometimes multiple enemies are alerted at one time to something you do, and you have to respond to it. That doesnât mean the aggro is broken. It just means that itâs working the way a good game works when the enemies work as a team just like the players do! Does that make the game harder? Yes. Does it mean itâs bad AI? NO. Itâs just the opposite!
From a power leveler standpoint, we focus more on mob AI. Using things like elevation to force the retreating status, line of sighting mobs to force them to come closer, abusing large aggro ranges to gather entire groups and cc/aoes to gain more experience faster, gathering large groups of people to force high spawn rates (ok⌠this one was deemed abuse and shouldnât be done⌠but power levelers think like this more than the average player). Iâd say that it is people who are casually just completing the quests rather than those who know how to use it to their advantage that are the ones complaining.
Guys - I am both proud and bemused that a casual, non-PvP, immersive player like myself understands the aggro in this game better than you âMMO prosâ do!
Hereâs how this works. STOP PLAYING THIS GAME like itâs WoW!!!
No you clearly donât understand, I donât even think you understand the problem fully. Things like people using mob AI to snipe resource nodes, people who work all day and just want to play the game casually but have to deal with sniper mobs spawning in alarming numbers near certain quest points, people who donât know how to dodge cancel to zip past mobs are more of the issue than someone who is powerlevelling and just wants to get to the next place as quickly as possible.
STOP pulling mobs! Stop treating quests and combat situations like youâre herding sheep into a corral where you try to nuke them with a mega-attack spell or something.
Do you not understand that the devs. made this game purposely MORE sophisticated in its aggro. and not less? And youâre totally missing it. Totally.
As someone who has levelled and farmed fast, I can guarantee that you can definitely still do this in this game. Easier with a tank obviously, but still possible without one.
Iâve been solo questing this game for over two weeks now. In doing so Iâve developed a keen sense of the ârangeâ or âperimeterâ of enemies and how they behave in reaction to what I specifically do. In other words, their sphere of influence that, if you go inside it you will get noticed and they will attack you.
If all youâre doing in this game is playing with friend or friends and youâre running around like a fool pulling groups of mobs behind you so that theyâre all chasing you, you are not only missing out on how awesomely tactical and fun this game can really be, but youâre also sucking the very sould out of the game. Youâre turning the game into a sad comedy that both breaks immersion for other players and well as for yourself. Youâre sabotaging your own experience. And you donât even realize it.
As this was originally designed to be a PvP game and the PvP aspect is massive in it, I could argue that you are the one sabotaging your own experience by playing soloâŚ
Except that you should play the game how you like it and not tell other people to do so. It feels like you have a way you like playing it and then are pissed that other people donât see the game the same way you do.
What you need to do in this game is NOT just run around like an efficiency spread sheet lunatic straight through a village and get everything to aggro and chase you. You actually need to be AWARE and move around in tactical ways so that you donât aggro every single enemy in a village!
Why not? It works and Iâm having fun doing it.
And by the way - pulling mobs reckelessly like that also messes with other players because a whole line of enemies will turn and ambush another character who is not even involved.
That is not a flaw in the design of the game. Itâs a lack of courtesy and game awareness on the part of players.
Honestly these two paragraphs just sound like you saying âAGGRO IS FINE IN THIS GAME⌠And by the way, aggro is not fine because it will ambush another character and that is your fault for pulling a congo line and you should be more courteous.â You do understand that in this case the person who can easily run through mobs ignoring all of them probably has no issue with the aggro and it is the person who was beset by mobs being pulled by someone else from 100m away who has more of the issue with it.
If you bothered to take the time to actually enter a farming village and actually approach it like a real situation where you do some sneaking around the outer perimeter of some enemyâs sphere of influence, while realizing that you do need to sometimes go straight in and face other ones head on, you will understand that the aggro in this game is not only amazing but is actually way smarter than people are giving it credit for.
Why? When I can lead a congo line of mobs down the road and they just end up aggroing someone else anyways? Or more often than not, I jump onto a pillar and send them all retreating with an aoe if things get too out of hand due to the way retreating mechanics work.
I was playing tonight and I saw it happening all over the place. Your sitting there moving carefully from one building to the next, carefully carving a path to the next house so you only aggro maybe two enemies and you can handle fighting them, and then what happens? âCircusclown43â and his buddy âCrankmybankâ come running through the village at full speed with 12 zombies chasing them. Itâs total facepalm.
It sounds like you have a problem with aggro. Circusclown43 and Crankmybank are probably in a discord somewhere complaining about how T2 refining mats are more expensive that T1 refining mats or joining up with a group for Myrkguard or zerging down a territory. Meanwhile youâve pulled your two mobs and canât handle the fact that there are now 12 more. I can guarantee you that these same people will also only be pulling 1 or 2 mobs when they meet something they canât actually run through like SM outdoor dungeons.
Bottom line in this. How about trying to not play the game to just get through it for once? How about not trying to constantly herd enemies into giant clusters so you can attempt to mass kill them to save time? How about not tyring to rush through every quest and actually play the game as an actual rpg character instead of a mindless bot trying to maximize efficiency in every single quest and every single combat?
Bottom line is this: let people play the game how they want and stop blaming people for pulling large groups. The aggro system is not ârandomâ but due to hate calculations and large tether ranges, it results in some non-intuitive attacks.
Such a fucking long post and you are still DEAD wrong about half the things you posted.
Go back to your toddler mmoâs, final fantasy and the likes.
Still they are spawning instantly.
And because all you mentioned above, itâs not easy to kill mobs. Especially if they are elite. So, while i am trying to kill the mobs, i dont want other mobs that i killed earlier instantly spawn in area and kill me.
So i am running all over the village and 432423 zombies chasing me most of the time.
Bruw can you pull the boss?
I got aggro can you help me?
How do I generate so much threat?
Iâm a healer c:
tank is supposed to draw the aggro tho. Especially if the healer has stacked full threat reduction gear
but if I do as you suggest I wont be done w/ the content in 5 days and have 18 or so hrs a day to rag on the game and anyone that doesnt feel the same angry disappointment that I always feel. Their girlfriends/boyfriends IRL must be tired of their partners bragging about how fast they can cum while leaving everyone dissatisfied.
Respawn rates do seem a tad high across the world. It would also be great of newly spawned enemies had a short internal cooldown before their threat tables became active. This would allow players to move away from respawns rather than get attacked by them before theyâve even fully materialised.
I was upstairs, in a building, fighting mobs, several levels lower than me (it might have been up to 8 levels). Before i was even done killing the mobs upstairs, 2 mobs came running up. 1 was a sheep, before i killed those 2, another 2 came up. Before i had killed both of them, 1 of the mobs, upstairs in the building, respawned. So yes, the aggro in this game is a joke. And i killed my way in to the building. I didnât just run in there
Aggro radius is too damn high! Spawn rates in some area are too damn high!
Not all cases of âplease fix thisâ should be responded with âur wrong git gud itâs not WoW.â Just as it is the other way around. If you canât see that areas in the game have huge fundamental flaws then you are straight simping for a game that you want everyone to play because you play it and want to protect its future. The fact is the game is broken in many areas including aggro (I should not be pulling things on different floors and shouldnât have to fight the enemy I just killed again because it respawned as if it wanted revenge before I can kill his friend (about 3-4 seconds).
Anyway back to aggro. âPlaying the game WITH the mechanics.â Pretty crazy statement seeing as said âmechanicâ is busted just like the combat system. Hit detection. Attack detection. Terrible buffer system. Hurtboxes /Hitboxes, you name it. Janky / clunky everything except gathering though it sometimes drops or takes longer than the white wheel on certain items. Damn bushes. BUT ooohhh nooo the aggro is perfect. Yeah, okay. I imagine they hit that one right on the mark, but happened to miss everything else. You can see why it seems a bit sus for you to be so defensive over clearly wonky (at best) aggro programming.
ALSO you can attack an enemy near another player and the enemy will attack him instead of you. Seems like an aggro problem that needs to be fixed to me, though it is fun af to mess with people that way TBH. You can abuse the AI in a number of ways. Retreating isnât even guaranteed though it says it above the mod. It can drop just as easily as anything else in the game. That is an aggro issue. See what Iâm doing there? Drawing clear distinct lines from different interactions that logically pertain to aggro. Itâs broken in more than one way so donât come on here thinking everything is fine and blanket stating that people complaining about aggro want it to be like WoW or they just havenât gotten used to the game or donât know how to play around it when most of us have first hand experience of itâs lackluster performance.
OP makes a lot of assumptions based on fringe players instead of addressing the actual problem or frankly testing it. The game is busted 6 ways to Sunday and when another mmo gets released (Iâm looking at you 2022) your precious New World will die unless said changed take affect. So you can either become part of productive discourse or defend this game in itâs current state and be part of the reason New World wasnât able to make the necessary changes in order to be relevant in the coming years.
This can be abused when you need to get extra damage on someone in pvp. Iâve used it multiple times to get mobs aggroed on my enemy. Pretty sleezy, but itâs in the game and according to OP it was intended.
Guess you didnât play EQ, the mobs would chase you all the way to the zone once agroed. Nothing like endless trains.
@ peakresources999, firstly a massive thankyou for writing out a well thought post based upon your experiences. It is one that I as a solo player of L52 appreciated.
There were many, many truths that I decided to read the whole post and concluded that you are indeed correct and that there are like minded solo players out there.
Abusing the mechanics of the game is against the terms of service that you agreed to.
Best that you keep quiet and stop embarrassing yourself before the ban hammer falls.
Aggro isnât an issue. But enemy pathing is. Ever notice that if you shoot a mob (especially animals) with a gun/bow and then move forward, the enemy will run right past you to the spot you were originally standing when you fired the shot?
Like they are coded to respond to the location of the threat, not the actual player. Its actually quite funny.
Oh and donât get me started on the enemy âRetreatingâ auto-heal. You attack an enemy, they move 2m towards you, then âRetreatâ 2m and regain full health instantly. What. The. F*ck.
While awful I laughed. The running mobs piss me off so much.
Weâre playing a game, weâre not in the real world so stop trying to impose realistic rules on it, nothing in this game is realistic just get over it.
yes it is, have you been running in shattered mountain? did you see how those ranged mobs patrols in the roads aggro on you? how is that NOT FAR AWAY?
Hyx, 100% correct in what you are saying.
I was surprised how far I could shoot at them but to see a mob turning on me from afar was entertaining.
Tactics were soon learned to avoid that situation.
You will clearly notice the fallacy in OPâs arguments if you were playing the game.
I think the op missed the.mark. usually people arenât complaining what they pull they are complaining a out mobs getting trained on them on retreat aggro.
This means I see two mobs. I time my pull and succeed at pulling a mob single.
While this happens someone aggroes mobs running through the camp. Now this is part.
Before the mob gets into retreat status will go after the closes character within his leash. And if thatâs you they are coming for you not the guy who aggroed them.
The person doesnât even have to run toward you they could be on the other side of the camp and you get those mobs . Cause now their aggro has gone from static to enraged.
This was the whole reason they removed mobs being in aggro on spawn .
It is a legitimate issue
