I personally quite like the combat, one of the reasons Im here
I do dislike when they remove mechanics, the only mechanics that i was for removing was the basic attack stagger (aka pvp crutch)… and i do think it does make the game boring, loved the sprint for example… regardless of everything I do geniunely enjoy the combat and this is subjective, so everyone is free to feel however they feel.
However I do remember feeling like the combat was not fluid the first time i played it, but that was a skill issue and the way we are used to other MMOs, loads of players like to mash buttons in games (especially if u come from game with global cooldowns, where mashing buttons multiple times is the norm) and sadly this is not the game for that kind of playstyle… every press, every click needs to be deliberate. Once you learn to play like that the combat is extremly fluid.
I think improvements to combat could be made for sure, but lets face it, they are not rly going to overhawl it… at best we can hope they will add one handed weapons (that can interact with each other… but even that is far fetched).
As a PvPers I completely agree, not even 10% of the population is into PvP, if u take any server I would say its a massive exageration to say 10% of the concurrent players are doing any form of PvP. On the most popular servers there are 1-2 (maybe 3 in the best case scenarion) going at the same time… and a few arena matches, on the least popular ones they can barely get 1 OPR game going at peak time.
It’s always been this way, it will always be this way… PvP is a niche part of MMORPGs, its important for some of us… very much so, but sadly its not rly that important for the MMORPG community.
Fluidity and lack thereof has absolutely nothing to do with skill. It is a design choice issue.
Those who say “they actually love the combat and it is the reason why they play NW” will only lead to more wasted opportunities if they keep AGS and NW staying on the same path, eventully ensuring its death.
A deep knowledge of the history of MMORPG’s and a reasearch into what works and what does not is badly needed given AGS studio’s leadership’s backgrounds are sadly not aligned with the needs of the genre and what makes a good MMORPG truly stand out and garner long lasting interest.
AGS, please open source the code to the game as a separate fork and let others do the work for you for free like the modders who have been doing incredible work on Elden Ring and FOR FREE. Better visuals, better sound effects, innovative ideas…etc.
@Lane@Kay : Almost everything I listed in my super long badly worded, written in a hurry feedback that I later referenced with actual “critical feedback” with refs from the community, has been taken seriously by your competitors and IMPLEMENTED:
Definetly very cool lookin, mods and im all for it (in a different MMORPG)… one of my favorite games of all times is BDO, which employs a much faster phased action combat.
However we will never see something like that in NW.
Engine/servers will probably die if they try to implement anything that “fast”.
Players already cry about desync (unjustly so, like they cry about balance, but never the less they cry).
Elder ring is a tab targeting (hybrid) not action combat.
Personally I would love something like that, afterall I absolutely adored my time with BDO. That being said if ur looking for a game like that in a MMORPG enviorment you might want to try out BDO, since I think there is 0% chance they will change NW.
Also just because I enjoy BDO combat does not mean I do not enjoy NW combat, its considerably different aproach… and 2 things can be true at the same time, just because u like chocolate doesnt mean u automatically dislike all other sweet things.
If i want BDO i can play BDO, no need to clone it in NW, the world of NW, sound and the combat are the reasons why I play this game even thou the game is lacking soo much from a MMORPG perspective… I would rather they focus their efforts in improving and providing the things New World is missing rather then making a clone of the BDO combat and still be missing the pletora of things NW needs to be on par with most other MMORPGs.
I think there are 2 major problems in new world, and if this 2 will be solved many players will come back.
We don’t have solo expeditions,
2.Crafting is complex and nice, but it is just a gamble. They need to find ways to motivate us to want to craft and runs for diferent resources nodes.
And a bonus i will like 1vs1 arena, and other thing is to implement a ranking system in arena, same as dota 2 have. This is easy content and this will bring back a lot’s of players.
If they did 1v1 arenas, they would need to work on 1v1 balance, and the game has never been balanced around 1v1, much like most MMORPGs never have been balanced around 1v1 (with very few exceptions).
People will lose their if they brough 1v1 ranked arena, less competent PvPers already judge things in 1v1 scenarios despite the game having no semblence of balance around 1v1. Imagine if AGS actually gave them a real reason to complain, also being a team and role based game its almost impossible to offer a balanced 1v1 scenario, just like League does not offer a ranked 1v1 nor do most other role based games. They are balanced around teamplay not around 1v1 and doing both will be a close to impossible task for AGS.
TL:DR; All we have to do is log in on any server and see how many concurrent instaces of OPR are running compared to the concurrent population online, and that number will be roughly 10% (much lower sometimes, since its 0 instances of OPR on low pop servers).
The information he presents is indeed the real information at the time, however his interpretation of it is biased and it can be fairly easily checked. Not only that but the players that play the game casually, do chest runs, log in to do trade skills, socialize and all that jazz is acording to the API numbers way over 50%, and all those get counted as PvE (by the vas majority of players), not everyone that is a PvE player has done M10s mutations.
We can look at the numbers all we can and talk teoretically and assume things (which is what he did for most of it, in a biased way to obtain the results he wanted) or we can log in any server and see how many OPRs are going at the same time and compare that to the current active population, and that number will not exceed 10%, its that simple. If his “conclusion” was correct log into any server would show at least 25-35%+ of CONCURRENT players doing OPRs, which is not the case.
Ofc it does, there is overlap in most activities in the game.
But if his conclusions (personal and biased) were correct the number of active OPRs instances per server would not be averaging 1-2, on most popular servers (in the daytime ofc, cause at night its way under 1, and thats understandable).
He said most people do arenas only for Gypsum in his experience, but he didnt apply the same rules to OPR… cause reasons.
You either have a objective look on things or u dont.
And being delusion thinking that 50% of the game population is PvP players just makes people look stupid, just because we are a much smaller procentage of the playerbase does not mean we dont deserve content or anything like that.
I’m personally super disapointed that it’s taken them over a year to make cross-server and who knows when we will get another OPR map (we should have 3-4 by now), and who knows when we are going to get a ranked system for it and all the other things we deserver. But the truth is i understand why the focus is on other content and the % of PvP players is the reason.
Again, so you can accept that there is overlap in PvP players doing PvE activities (because the game “forces” them too).
But you cannot accept there is PvE players that do PvP activities for the gypsum ?
And honestly 20 OPR wins is nothing, we get 7-10 roughly / evening (3-4 times a week), just bantering on discord after work (if we don’t have other activities to do).
Also we have to consider a lot of people enjoy both, I’ve been “forced” by my friends to do M10s couple of times, because they geniunely enjoy the content, and I too think its nice, ofc I would never do 25/week.
Anyway, you can look at the date, and I promise you that you will not reach the conclusion the guy in the video did that 50% of the population of the game are active PvP players.
Maybe on ur server. On barri i see 909 ppl having 1+ kill ratio on OPR lol. 900 is a lot.
Nah. There is a lot of ppl playing pvp. A way more than you think.
And ppl that go opr to get gypsum are not 1+ or even 0.5+ KDR on opr. They dont have gear and skill to do that.
As i said, we can talk teoretically and review biased date all we want.
All we have to do is log in to the game, go on any server see how many of the players actively play OPR (what is the % of the population that is actively engaged in PvP at any given time compared to the active population of the game), I would say OPR is the easiest activity to judge since less people play Arena (so little in fact that is almost impossible to 3v3 premade most of the time) or OWPvP which with the exception of pushes is dead.
No. OPR is not all. I do play sometimes for 6-7h and do 0 opr games. So im not pvp player? Fact that im not farming opr all day long does not make me pve player lol.
I have friend that does pvp only and 99% of his time in game he does duels.
