You actually have no idea what you’re talking about. In WoW Classic TBC, literally another MMO out right this second, Leatherworking provides BiS belt slots for Hunters (the class I play), while Tailoring in Phase 1 accounted for an entire BiS set for mages.

Yes, the first two itterations of a 17 year old game…then for 14 years after that, they never did that again and you actually had to earn the best gear in the game.

AND in some of the cases of that gear, the materials came from raiding / were BoP. So once again, nope.

WoW had crafted BIS much longer than the first xpac.

Nope. Even in its first expansion there was no crafted gear that was the best gear for the game. Eventually it either got replaced by raid gear and in PvP there was never crafted gear that was better than the PvP gear that you could just buy off the market.

Crafted gear should definitely give you some of the best gear in the game. A great example of that is ESO. Depending on the build you’re going for, you will almost always be wearing 1 crafted set in conjunction with an overland, dungeon, another crafted set or trial set.

So yes, successful MMOs do provide players with BiS crafted gear.

Sure, as long as the way to attain that gear isn’t just spending some gold on the market / getting stuff for free from other players.

Some things in MMOs just work and have been refined to being the direction that’s best for the game. There’s no game where the only requirement to having the best gear in the game is having gold and sitting in town. You have to do something else besides that to have the best gear, you have to earn it.

There are many games that allow you to craft end-game gear. Some games might limit it to be specific items or limit the resources making them extremely rare, but these types of games do exist… some even specialize in it.

Except those games require you to do other things other than just buying the matts off other players. You have to actually play in the games to get the matts / be able to craft the items.

In a game like New World you get to pick what you want to do. Do you want to craft and sell items, so you can afford other gear? Or do you grind gear getting some of those extremely rare drops?

New world is so easy as it sits that you can literally just do everything. People have maxxed everything out within a month of launch…that’s not good.

New World has one of the most robust crafting systems… why would you limit it in such a way?

Why would you have to do content / actually play the game to have the best gear…? Because if you just want to get to max level and have the best gear instantly by buying stuff off the market / farming it for a day then you should play something like Minecraft…?

Why not? New World has focused on the in-game economy. People might spend all day gathering motes, so they can sell them. They later take that money and buy better gear.

I disagree with you. I think higher prices are good. But I also don’t like to just sit in town and buy everything and have the best gear in the game due to that…so I can see why you wouldn’t like it…

Well there goes your “it removes pay to win” theory. The casts cost like 600 each to make. Maybe more depending on the tax rate. So over like 250k gold? They also decreased WM drops by around 90%. Have fun!

Apples to oranges, the crafting system is not the same as new worlds aside from Albions, which you literally lose all your gear when you die. So having the “best” gear doesn’t matter as much, especially with the zone scaling they have.

They literally said they were supposed to be rare to find. They’re even colored purple to show how rare they were supposed to be. On my server which is literally dead, they were selling for less than 1g a piece…

In the Ion years, crafting has been gated behind high end raid drops, but that was not the case early on.

It was also not realized that the crafted gear was BiS back then, either, like it was with relaunch. There was no such that as “preraid bis” lists for everyone to follow / be forced to get.

And the Ion years, where it has been the case, have been the times when WoW’s membership has been dropping like a stone as well.

Weird, WotLK is considered WoW’s best moment. Crafting gear was never better than raid or PvP gear outside of maybe one or two pieces, that still would get replaced relatively quickly.
