more proof that AGS design the game for the bots and not the players… sad choices.
remove all afk timers now.
Can you please name a single MMORPG that kicks you from the game while fishing? Sorry to say that, but you guys are really as incompetent as it’s being said by a lot of haters.
Wouldn’t it be more prudent to look for patterns in actions? Surely a bot is consistent.
RNG range, set the ‘dice rolls’ to be x and y. Each block is assigned an action.
BOOM!
You now have a bot that uses RNG to ‘dice roll’ its actions.
…trust me, it’s extremely easy.
Thats a tone deaf response. And the way you implemented is not(!) industry standard.
You do realize you have software and game developers among your fans?
The current setup only annoys and frustrates the players. Any halfway properly done bot can easily circumvent your AFK checks the way they are done.
This is not an industry standard.
It does not work to combat bots.
You are annoying and patronizing your player base (which keeps shrinking).
Thank you. While it is disappointing, I do understand. I’m just here trying to send in my feedback so that the game can flourish. Can i make a suggestion though, maybe extending the afk timer for fishing by 5 minutes, or studying behavior paterns?
If your solution actually works to combat bots, then you should improve the rewards from fishing treasure chests again.
While you’re obviously correct that an AFK timer is standard for MMOs the implementation here is pretty abysmal. Many of us here have played lots of MMOs and can quickly tell you that your implementation is far below the “industry standard”, if it wasn’t then people wouldn’t consider it so anomalous. I shouldn’t have to exit a menu to move around while sorting my inventory or browsing the trading post; same goes for playing musical instruments. If the solution is specifically for fishing bots, why does it negatively affect so many other things players do in the game?
I’m sorry but this is ridiculous. The only thing this “feature” does, is annoy real players. People who code bots are able to let the character make a sidestep every few minutes. So Idk where this logic comes from.
Also, how is this an industry standard if no other MMO of the big 3 implemented it the way you did?
You don’t need to be a software developer to find a difference between AFK timer (away from keyboard) and AGS “implementation” which is more like “not changing your x, y and z”. It seems that AGS is just not skilled enough to implement any solution that is at least close to “industry standard tool”, but instead they did a junior-level workaround that is just checking your coordinates.
I wish they’d at least remove the afk timer when you’re in the marketplace. Nothing like browsing endless pages of stuff and having to get out to move and not find your place again, lol.
(yeah, I know…I probably spend too much time browsing)
My quality of life post got 0 replies but yet this did. Interesting
Hello again! I see I was a bit too hasty in my previous reply, and responded only to the symptom and not the root cause of your frustrations. My response was therefore too generalized, and it caused more concern versus what I was trying to solve – so my apologies for that. Thanks for calling me out. Lesson learned.
To elaborate on my intent, the core of the AFK System is very unlikely to go away. As mentioned, it deters simple bots and further helps manage away-players who are taking up a concurrency position that instead can be utilized by someone else stuck in a possible queue. But there are some good points made here. So with feedback, what we can do instead is look to potentially make adjustments to the logic or timing the system uses in order to provide a smoother and less impactful experience to real/attentive players (such as during fishing, using the trading post, or other impacted areas).
So with that in mind, I’ve seen fishing called out as a significant pain point. Are there any other areas of the game folks feel are impacted too aggressively by the AFK Timer? Would love to hear further recommendations and suggestions for us to consider with the system.
Fishing and browsing the Trading Post are the most painful areas for me. With the new update, you can safely add music to the list.
P.S. I also want to apologize for my reply, it was too harsh. We all love the game and want it to be better. Sometimes, we are mad on something we think is not good for the game we love.
While browsing storage sheds.
Until we have better ways to filter, organize and search our gear, I spend way to much time there and am asked if I’m afk.
Trading Post is by far the worst. When fishing, it’s not too hard to make a step but when I’m actively browsing the TP I don’t wanna have to exit the menu to avoid afk detection. Putting orders up or doing searches should count as an action.
Why in every post from a dev is it a blank statement or a PR copy/paste response that look’s like a counselor or politician would say it to keep people drinking the kool aid.
How much ignorance must the player base suffer before AGS realizes treating people like numbers/value vs people will do nothing but piss people off, make them loose faith in AGS, and keep testing people by baiting with BS while getting a kick out of it like its the companies favourite pass-time vs actual development, we all absolutely love it.
My biggest pain point is when sorting through my various storage sheds. I get disconnected all the time and it is my biggest frustration.
Wars. The timers too short. Needs to be consistent with the other AFK timer. In competitive wars it’s quite common that people utilise the 15 minutes to have a chat about what to do. This is done out of game on discord calls. People have felt like this was a mistake since it was implemented last year.
this is constructive feedback
