I didn’t play FF XIV extensively, but they have four healing classes, each with tens of skills. That certainly feels like much more varied than boring LS with three skills.
I have played healer classes in WoW though and I can tell you that they are much more varied that in New World. Being a Druid, Shaman or Priest plays very differently and as a healer I have much more choices. Granted I have to play different classes for that but in New World that option isn’t even there. One stinking healing weapon and one tanking weapon, thats it.
So the freedom of choice is really just an illusion. There is little meaningful choices in New World, unless you are DPS.
Weapon system is fine. The ATTRIBUTE system is what is lacking. It’s too shallow. There is no depth.
It also doesn’t help that almost every weapon has must have skills and a few never take skills… But that’s more about boring meta and not necessarily balance.
If you think there is no variation here then you would feel more locked up on other games where each character can only be one class. Where if you want to play a different class or style then you would have to reroll another character for it.
Yes but healer classes in other games aren’t balanced either. In WoW for example a druid shined in M+ dungeons but was terrible for raids. Even roles within the class were not balanced well. Mage was pretty much fire mage or bust. Thats just one example. There are many more.
I actually like that you can be whatever you want to be in NW. They just need to start tuning stuff and really understanding their own “classes” instead of taking sledgehammers to everything and thinking its balancing. They also need to give us way better gear management and storage for it. I like to play different things from day to day. One day I might like to go out with my bow. Another day I might want to go out with my sword and shield. Another day something else.
What I don’t like is certain things by design are better for dungeons or terrible for dungeons because of resistances. Poor fire staff user. (for example)
Void gauntlet shouldnt have been damage. It should’ve been focused base with some healing and all debuffs. Void blade should be removed and make it a true focus weapon to tie with LS. Then add another tank weapon with a shield combo, and balance the two out when paired. Imo. I could be wrong but void gauntlet should have a complete focus tree and a complete damage tree NOT the ability to spec into both.
This game has too much that needs fixed… This was an alpha 2 release advertised as a complete game. Whoever rushed the released really fucked up.
If you want dark souls like combat. Do it. Otherwise change your combat completely, overhaul. Don’t port in mechanics, drift away from it but keep the same baseline of dark souls like combat.
I agree. It needed another year to bake. They are way too far behind. Someday it might be good but by then the game is pretty niche because a lot of people are not going to come back.
I still think it would be easier to balance if you got a “class” based on primary and secondary weapon… The class could have some extra signature skill. A GA/Hatchet couldget a signature skill break free (break root)… A LS/VG could get some Necrotype skill like they take damage to heal their group while a LS/IG could get some magical skill like a frostball that heals the caster for x% of the damage…
By giving them different weaknesses and signature skills it would add to balance and make the game more varied…
I completely agree except that you kind of contradicted yourself by first saying that VG shouldn’t be about damage but then in the last, saying that it should have a complete damage tree.
VG should never have been about DPS, period. We have tons of DPS focused weapons. VG should have been a complementary support weapon to LS but it turned out to be an OP DPS weapon. The problem is really only in one skill and that is Void Blade.
Why does VG need a melee DPS skill? Remove it and replace with with either a ranged or melee debuff (I prefer ranged as ranged healing is what I think LS is supposed to be). Because all of the OP aspects of VG comes from the extreme damage it does with Void Blade in conjuction with all the buffs/debuffs. So just remove the damn thing and let VG be what it is supposed to be. A buff/debuff support to LS.
Yeah when I was typing that I knew that. I was meaning if you’re void gauntlet, and you want to pair with lifestaff, have it be a healing side that’s focus scaling. If you want damage as void gauntlet then have it be low scaling with Intel/focus and have it be focused on debuffs with minimal damage. A focus based weapon should NOT outheal and outdamage any melee weapon in the game. But nah, it does more damage with it’s debuffs and heals more than any melee in the game.
OR
Have it actually be support based across the board. I did not clarify, sorry.
But that is where the variation lies, to reroll and have another character. But there are also hybrid classes, so don’t forget that. However, my point is, that there is no variation for healers and tanks in New World. None. As all the choices are just false choices because in the end what matters, for tanks or healers, is SnS or LS.
Yeah and this is all because of the stupid void blade skill. One of many bad design decisions made in this game. Create a debuff/buff focus based weapon and then give it an extreme DPS skill. Like, wtf?
