What’s your top three in the next year then?
Because WoW is in rapid decline, New World is already matching ESO numbers if not beating it, Black Desert has stagnated, Guild Wars 2 concurrent is several thousand. Apart from FFXIV which is likely to remain number 1, what else you got?
NW will be a top three MMO
ESO is cyclical – their devs have stated that this is their strategy: bring players back for content releases (sell them stuff) and then have it taper off between. The strat works for them, but it has ESO bobbing up and down in pop, making it less easy to compare.
GW2 should have a big 22, with the nostalgia expac coming which will certainly bring a lot of players back to the game, at least for a while. Its “dormant”/formerly active playerbase is huge.
FFXIV will be #1.
NW is in the mix, but I see NW becoming more like ESO in having a smaller dedicated fanbase, with surges around content releases. It’s too thin of a game to sustain an ongoing dedicated audience like FFXIV has.
WoW isn’t a direct concurrent of NW.
BDO and ESO are the one with the more in common.
But comparing the number of player at D-7 for a new game don’t prove much.
Player of BDO invest much and wont quit easily, the core should be loyal.
ESO players, like said earlier, are mostly seasonal, coming for event and new content.
NW is just out but has a lot of excellent feature. Crafting is really well done, with part of luck, item depending on craftsman level, settlement dependencies etc…
But NW still have a lot to learned from other. For my part, I don’t want future expansion/dlc to increase the character level cap or to introduce new hl resources. It’s what WoW does, and it’s just keep the players running just to not lag behind other.
BDO do not have cap level, and ESO cap is low, champion rank acting like the hard cap. It makes pexing an endgame activity.
I think a similar think for world and craft skills could be good, to avoid a point in the future where everyone will be able to do everything. An endless craft level could allow people who plan to play smith only to be a better smith than other, even in 5 month.
But it would be good to include this player in the factions play, with the pvp aspect. Something between BDO and ESO, with guild having to move large quantities of resource to a new town in pvp mode. Why not a carriage system, who could only be use while pvp tagged.
Settlement are open to everyone, but craft station use is capped at a certain level for player of opposing factions. Settlements can’t improve everything to max, so some will be mining oriented, other alchemy etc…
But again, the game is 1 week old, and i’m pretty sur there’s plenty of on-going features.
I actually kinda like this idea. Just even for bragging rights so that someone who wants to role play a hunter/tracker can be “better” at skinning and gathering than everyone else without giving them a huge advantage. Are there any games that you are basing this idea off of that have implemented this concept?
If someone burns themselves out by no life-ing the game that’s on them. Many people don’t play all day and night. The game has plenty of time
What else is World of Warcraft?
The word Yep appears in World of Warcraft numerous times, is your comment World of Warcraft?
The game will have its dedicated playerbase, but outside of the pvp stuff the game overall is pretty basic. It definitely won’t keep pve players for very long.
As far as this goes, runescape has a cap 8x past “max” in oldschool runescape, rs3 has more unlocks towards 8x max.
Diablo3 has a slightly similar system called paragon levels that go on forever and give attributes + base boosts over time.
Call of duty has their prestige system, but that’s also capped.
I dig it!
Already happened.
yep, I got 200 as well, at lvl 41

Having reached lvl 38.5 in New World im sorry to say im bored. The lvlling beyond 25 to 40 is so repetitive its almost soul destroying. I have to say that I believe wow classic fresh will destroy new world as it is now.
It doesnt matter what people say about the world being too small … bring in mounts auto dismount and despawn before entering cities. This would help matters immensely but much more is needed. Also make them quite easily killable perhaps if flagged for pvp, with a 5 minute timer (or perma death) upon mount death before you can resummon so that pvp is not so badly affected.
If you allow lvling (so 60 levels akin to char) of mounts do not add scaling so a lvl 60 pvp player would one shot a lvl 30 mount, yes pvp is scaled but not mount killing, however to kill the mount the player riding must be flagged for pvp.
Add to this horse armor etc for longevity and protection and you will have some great and fun content people will stick around for. Also allow mount selling on the market at whatever lvl…! Only 1 active mount per char inventory but allow players to have active mounts in the bank if you go down the perma death route (preferable).
Certain animals maybe be tamed (not too many) stats will differ accordingly alongside hp. A male stag will have more hit points than a doe but harder to tame. OR they maybe crafted from run recipes via arcana mount crafting function and dropped recipes from bosses or elite drops (better). Run recipes deems say you can make 5 if you get a 5 run recipe 1 if it is a 1 run recipe and which disintegrates or subtracts after each time crafted - make the recipes also sellable perhaps not epic/legendary mounts but some and even after you have crafted 1 of 5 if a five run recipe.
Im long tired of running more than fighting/farming. Tired of looting the same chests over and over, or even having to search for them. I was hoping there would be some sort of xp grind element to the game where we could sit as a group and just xp, but there is not.
I am lvl 30 and unlocked every skill I want for my weapon… I have seen every type of quest there is, every stat on weapons there is, Open world pvp is a rarity and mostly a tedious cat and mouse chase… Don‘t see why I would want to level up further, I am done.
I see, yeah I noticed a significant issue myself near the lvl 25+ area where level gains slow down quite a bit, I think you’re kind of meant to group up with people around that stage, repeat some expeditions, do some bigger tier town projects from crafting etc. But not everyone has had to do that up until this point, I see how it can be a turn-off for a lot of players when they get there.
I have similar issues at lvl 60 where there’s not much point for me to farm things further as expected, the only thing I can really do now is grind the last legendary quests and maybe go for arenas/dungeons at end game, but in the end that just means you get some legendary weapons, and then what right?
There needs to be something always worth doing which has already been suggested here.
I’m about in the same boat. No ones flagging and 20v20 is level 60 only. The rare time I do run into a flagged player they usually just run away, and since I rock heavy armor I just don’t bother chasing them since this game lacks any real ability to root players and stop them from kiting.
This definitely won’t happen. I will say in 3-6 months the active players will definitely drop a lot but it will level out. They will definitely have to merge servers in time and imo it will be around the 6 mo mark. But, this game is not going to shut or be “dead” in 2 months. This game has a lot of potential and there are some major things they need to add but as of now, it will be fine.
Also, not everyone is rushing through leveling etc. Some of us work, go out, play other games etc. For me besides NW, D2 just released and Back 4 Blood launches tomorrow. I still put in time on Valorant and Overwatch as well as my main mmo that I play. Not saying this is everyone, but I am sure a lot of people are playing other games besides just this one.
I highly doubt that. Today’s gamers can’t handle grinds and this mmo is heavily grindy and a lot more pvp focused then the other major mainstream mmos. This isn’t your typical mmo and no way this will pass WoW, FFXIV, SWTOR, ESO, GW2 in a year.
I doubt the game will die, but I see it becoming pretty niche pretty fast. I wouldn’t be surprised if they switch to a F2P model next year.
