Played a lot of MMO’s over the years. Have seen my share of in-game “GM” come into the game for various reasons.
Have even seen Chat moderators in general chat warning people.
Has anyone ever seen a AGS “GM” in-game? Would be nice to see them ever now and then handling the reported bot problems etc…

Not in this game no. Everything is automated from their “customer service”.
Gold age of gaming and interactive GMs dead. it’s all corporate now.
I do believe they need player moderators. Runescape did this well. Though i hate to compare any other games to New world. But runescape just popped up in my head when talking about in game moderators. They had player mods and their Jagex mods.
Automod system / Ban system has too much power as it is. Giving a woke teenager more power to destroy the “game life” of another person because they weren’t raised correct, don’t like something, gets triggered by mean words, is just a disaster waiting to happen.
The only policy that works is “Stop crying & use the block button” - All else that are exploits merit a ban. Done. simple. Adult.
That’s like in no way what a player moderator is. You seem mad at the game and world haha. You might need to take a break. Sound like a grumpy old woman.
I rarely get angry. When you have the experience and options that I have, do what I do for a living, it’s my conscious that does the work because it’s the right thing to do.
According to the official sources, gm are responsible for reviewing reports from players and taking action accordingly. To my knowledge they are not actively monitoring the game in any other ways. Moderation is reactive rather than proactive, which means it is kind of important for players to actually report bad actors.
