The amount of racism that goes unpunished in this game is astounding. Your report feature is atrocious as pointed out by the numbers bots still running around with out so much as a hint of a fix for that.
There are folks running around with blatant racist names, racist company names, and AGS does nothing. Who would have thought that a game studio backed by a billion dollar company would want to be known as a safe haven for racist and toxic players.
I play a black character in game, as it is a representation of me in real life. I’ve had racist encounters before and reported with nothing being done. This time, it just really pissed me off. I also reported…but lets see if AGS gives a damn about that, since they haven’t at any time before.
Today I organized a portal run as I do every day for the earlier players of the server. When the group left the shrine I pathed it to go to the smaller portals first and then hit the major. Apparently this wasn’t the way for some people and they wanted to move a different way. I have no problem with that. People asked in chat who decided on this path, and one player in particular decided to type “whoever followed the monkey”
Now i’m at my end with tolerating AGS and this toxic ass community. I’m not going to post the name of the player or the company here. I’ve submitted a ticket both in game and over webiste support. I fully believe that nothing will happen as so far AGS has proven to not care and seem to be quite comfortable tolerating and accepting racist behaviour among it’s player base.
If someone from AGS wants to contact me directly, I can provide a screenshot and information at that point.
This is a video game, where multiple people of all races and backgrounds around the world should be able to come together to play and take a break from reality.
AGS should be ashamed for allowing this type of bs in their game, and even more embarrassed at the lack of response.
The fishing bots actually did get banned on my server. I was surprised and bummed at the same time. Albenaja’s went from 100g to 1500g over the course of a week because bots werent fishing the spots 24/7.
To actually respond to the post. Sorry to hear about your experience. I know they have forced name changes. I had a friend who specifically had to pick a new name twice because his previous names were definitely of the funny to some, offensive to others nature. I don’t think they have people reviewing these but they likely have some algorithms to try and pick some of these names up.
Unless you have seen this unnamed player make similar comments before, I don’t think it a guarantee that this person intended his insult to be racist. I have seen “ape” and “monkey” used to simply insult someone’s intelligence absent of any racial connotations. Either way, it was not nice and still can be considered toxic.
Is a term used for bad leadership, it has nothing to do with racism. Maybe the person in question did that from a racisitc POV, but a single sentence you took from a biased angle is neither helpful or giving you the ammunition to make a proper statement.
Another fact is, the people don’t actually look at the characters. I personally never did that and it’s nearly never used for orientation when doing calls in MMOs. At least in my 15+ years of playing them
I’m worried since more and more people start to see things at places where there isn’t anything. I’ve encountered actual racism when i got spit on because an american guy who asked me where i was born and i said “Montenegro”, he simply didn’t knew that country and his first action was to get mad and insane because of the n word in there. Don’t be like that. just be calm and collected, if there is undeniable racism you can report with that to the forums.
Anyways the in game report functionality in this game isn’t worth the effort, true dat.
I have never heard that used in that manner…and even if it were the case…why would that be your first though in a game where the community is as toxic as this ones. Lets be real.
I agree with you on blatant racism. However, you might be jumping at shadows on the monkey thing. No need to go defensive in response to me, it’s just a thought.
I am a white guy so my opinion is less relevant than that of a person of color but I will say this.
As a parent I used to call my kids my “little monkeys” all the time. Until I got together with my current partner who has two children of color. I would NEVER call a black person a monkey because our culture has a long history of calling people of color monkeys in order to denigrate them, to literally say they are less than human.
First of the thread starter never mentioned he’s from the US, this is a term used in different cultures and languages. In German you use it as a insult for example, or even as cutification of children. aka “My little monkey”, or if something is super cool you can say “Affen stark” (Strong like a Monkey)
It’s even used in the movie Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb

Sure, I guess my take is based on my bias because I can’t remember the last time I looked at someone’s avatar closely enough to even spot that. Especially in a large portal group.
