Hi folks, in this thread, which is going to be linked to the main Infinite Progression thread, I want to focus on what a player gets to keep each time they run their character through the game from 1st to 60th level. I think that, in the grand scheme of things, most players would welcome the ability to rapidly switch out one or more equipped items, and this portion of my idea deals with that.
I have some other threads with unread replies, so I’ll just get this one started briefly with this:
This is the map my guy in on, and yes, he is in the weakest Faction.
Here is his current gear:
And after the casts have been made:
As you can see, I have not been working on this guy for some time, as I got bored and lost interest weeks ago, so his stuff still has quite the way to go.
Now, using the latest image for my guy’s gear as a base, I’ll attempt to show what I am thinking about for what a Remnant has to offer, and keep in mind this is an initial effort at bringing NW an endgame that isn’t just a boring slog of endless slavery to RNG drops.
As I envision them, a Remnant would have their equipped items permanently fixed in place at the time the player chooses to make their current Lady or Gentleman into a Remnant, and then starting their character all over, at 1st level. I won’t be covering anything in this thread except the main image/gear in any depth, as the focus is on what an early Remnant would do for a player’s character.
Armor.
All equipped Armor would be retained and fixed in place, forever.
Weapons.
All equipped Weapons would be retained and fixed in place, forever.
Keep in mind, that currently, shields only work with swords and not any other one handed weapons, so unless you are using a sword, your Remnant would never get to use his/her shield, and you would not be able to remove it later.
Consumable and Ammo.
All equipped consumables can be freely swapped out, just like on a character you are still playing.
Jewelry.
All equipped Jewelry would be retained and fixed in place, forever.
Bags & Tools.
All equipped Bags & Tools would be retained and fixed in place, forever. However…
As a Remnant can interact with monsters, chests, and gatherable resources only to ‘get’ them, a Remnant cannot store anything, and instead all newly collected items and resources would go in the character’s storage rather than the Remnant’s (non existent) storage. So while the Remnant has three satchel’s, any perks on them function only in acquiring new stuff, and not storage of stuff, which only a Character can do, and not a mere Remnant. This would mean, for instance, that a Satchel equipped on a Remnant could give a luck bonus, but any storage perks would be lost, in favor of the perks on the Character’s person.
As far as the interaction with items and equipment slots, since all Remnant’s will be created from former 60th level characters, a restarted character would retain all previously opened equipment slots. For example, all bag slots would remain opened, as would the Jewelry and Consumable slots, so no waiting for 30/45th level to be able to use three bags for instance.
Now that we have covered items and equipment and such, let’s move on to some other images.
How would I deal with territorial standing with respect to Remnant’s past achievements, and a current playable character’s progression?
As reaching 60th level would be the only requirement to be able to choose to create a Remnant (of the lowest sort), some folks will never reach this level, and so will never be able to make a Remnant, but for other folks, they will not want to loose everything their former lives earned, either, so my idea is that, like with the equipment slots, anything that is unlocked in any given territory once, stays unlocked, forever.
What does this mean for a Remnant/playable character combo? Let us look at Windsward for instance. My character has gotten his Windsward TS up to level 71, and this unlocks tier 4 housing (Opened up at level 30) in the Windsward town, and this means, that when I restart my guy, even though he is now a brand new, level one character, in his previous life he had opened up ownership of all the houses, and this would permit him to buy/retain any house in the town. Some issues to think about, could having one or more Remnants allow for more than three houses to be owned by a player’s character?
More coming, but I want to get in a play!!!
