Insatiable Gravity Well: damage bonus increased 15…34…52% while on a great axe.
What does this mean? There’s no damage bonus in insatiable grav well what’s there is that some of the damage is converted into health. Did devs change the way the perk works or are they just clueless?
If they’re just increasing the healing then there’s no reason still to get this on your weapon.
just as I thought, still not worth a slot on a weapon. This is their chance to change some of the GA weapon perk to make it more useful (refreshing charge, really?) but for some reason they insist that GA need healing perks.
Fortifying Whirlwind: Now grants 3…6.6…10% damage and damage absorption for 2s. (Max 5 stacks)
Maelstrom: increased damage reduction 3…14…25% while on a great axe and increased weaken duration from 4s to 8s.
Mauler Tree skill perks are sinister. I think Grav Well is still good, but Whirlwind into a Maelstrom going to crank after this update. I already like it for 3v3 and this makes the combo that much more dangerous.
Whirlwind got a nerf. It’s 10% on both armor and weapon in live, but it’s 6.6% on armor and 10% on weapon in the PTR. Whirlwind on weapon didn’t get improved.

Devil is in the details my friend. Yes the base damage reduction was lowered to not get you to fortify cap from five hits alone, but NOW you get the fortify and a “slash damage buff” that sounds like it does not interfere with the empower cap. Enfeebling Maelstrom will be a must on GA itself, but whirlwind perk on armor still will get the job done.
Pair it with Mauler’s Fury and I am figuring that the damage will be something to look out for. Slash Damage ring (optional), paired with WW perk, paired with Mauler’s Fury, and the NEW 100 Strength Bonus… I assume it will at least do more than on live lol. I will give it a test sometime today. EDIT: Thwarting Strikes on GA too just to add a little bit of butter on top
As an aside, Grav Well still has a lot of utility but the stickiness of whirlwind and the ampage can make your maelstrom crank (which is all I care about). I have no idea how high G Well will do with the buffed version.
I did some testing w/ 300 Strength, Light armor, Fortifying Whirling Perk on armor, Thwarting Strikes, and Slash Ring against the lvl 64 elite corrupted bear southwest of Mountainrise Outpost near the the two named Ancient mobs. Here are the non-critical damage results:
1711 1580 no buff Maelstrom
2031 1876 Maelstrom w/ Whirlwind x 5 (no Mauler’s Fury or Greed)
2446 2259 maelstrom w/ Whirlwind x 5 and Maulers Fury x 10 (Empower from Greed does not stack as cap gets reached from MF)
The above damage can of course get amped when it crits, from other weapon perks like vicious, and enhanced by passives like Keen Edge & Death’s Embrace. Like I said, GWell will still be the bees knees, but WW has certainly become exceptionally good with this perk change along with the movement speed increase from the arena patch.
I am a fanatic of the WW/Maelstrom combo xD so I never got to testing Insatiable Gravity Well…
I can report back my findings tonight when I hop back on the game. I will do 300 Strength, Fight the same corrupted bear (neutral to void damage), use Insatiable Grav Well perk on Armor, Bloodlust instead(?), and Light Armor. I will keep it neutral on damage modifiers. Let me know if I missed something here in your reply.

I saw this in PTR chat the other day, but I am here to confirm that the damage bonus increase is sadly a typo. I observed no difference in damage with and without the perk except of course the additional second damage instance. Interesting tidbit too, damage is calculated based on your modifiers when you throw the Gravity Well, not when it explodes. So do your dodges or get hit for your jaspers to maximize damage output. @Juergen@grumpyoldman
