Intelligence tank

Hey all!

After info about PTR nerfs on healers, I left healing and gonna try out tanking instead.
I tanked some depths and notice I mostly use SnS taunts mostly and blocks with shield to regen threat.
I never used my second weapon which often where GA, WH or Spear, not even the taunt on it.
So instead I look up some videos on an intelligence tank build and I think int weapons do give more debuffs/buffs/damage overall more then strength weapons does.

So I try out fire staff and void mostly now and I love tanking with them, just to be able to use my secondary weapon as tank.

My question is in end game, is intelligence tank still welcome/useful on group dungeons/ pvp groups?

Thanks for any answers!

If you can reliably and consistently tank whatever content you’re doing (expeditions, M1-M10) while having fun, you’re always welcome.

I don’t know. I have never seen someone tank with a fire staff. I have seen some people phenomenally tank with rapier though.

As a tank I always use WH as a second weapon. Void is good as well but you are the one controlling the fight. With people still trying to prove themselves in a game, having a second AOE taunt to save them is amazing. Plus the WH can apply rend, fortify and heal you at the same time

If you can get hold of one of those utility VGs with life-leeching and voracious blade, or leeching+trenchant recovery, you will do super fine.

All the skill tree from blade plus oblivion withthe ulti perk on that tree, and from Decay, use Rupture or Baleful Tether. Get a handle on both, test which one suits you better, maybe you need more damage output (Tether) or more recovery (Rupture)
Get a Surgeon Ring if you can spare the points from your build (if you are tanking, I assume you can). Every other piece with leeching will be good, but AFAIK, only rings give that.
300CON 150INT should do a sustained damage. It’s not perma self-sustainable, but you will relieve a lot the healer, or do the classic party 1-tank-1-healer-3dps but as a tank you will provide a lot more of damage than just tanking around.
Try it, it’s fun, even for soloing on elite areas, I used 150CON150FOC200Int and it’s pretty self-sustainable while killing fast enough to not be extremely boring.

pd: the Baleful tether generates a ridiculous agro, so if you trigger the fight with that, you will have the agro for sure for the rest of it.

Try out Hatchet. Berserk has the best AoE Taunt in the game with a really short CD, Infected Throw is super useful in Mutations with Vampiric and Rending Throw allows you to keep Rend up on Bosses + Helps with Pulling. It also gives you defy death which can be really nice in hairy situations.

I tryed out hatchet, the only thing with it I wasent sertain about is defy death, does it activate even though I dont have hatchet in my hand?
Like if I fighting SnS and get an deadly blow, will it activate?

No, it only works if hatchet is active.
We run mutateds with no tank, only 4 hatchets (when it’s a suitable weapon) and it works wonders.
1 heavy, 3 meds, 1 healer. Faster kills, a little demanding for the healer, but works awesome.

Nah, you need to pull it out if you’re certain your healer can’t keep you alive or you run ouf of stamina before a big attack.

IG/SNS or VG/SNS is great for tanking.

int tank in pvp had its uses in december and november. I recall experimenting with it by playing void and ice. With crafted gear it was very strong. Survivability was off the charts and dps was not too bad either. Cons? You were as mobile as lawn mower and of course potions potions potions - very thirsty build. Not so sure about it now but I am considering giving it a go. Especially with most of the mages running around in light armor therefore making heavy armor pieces with mage perks really cheap.

In pve however (especially mutations) might be a bit tricky to pull off without SNS.

ditto.

i prefer it for the CC sundering shock wave and heavy hitting with trench rend.

rend is a really powerful debuff in dungeons.

arguably VG could be a good secondary option as scream and oblivion helps out a lot too.

but you cant beat sns for tanking. timing shield bash against enemy windup attacks is too good. also leadership buff is nice too.

LOL Didn’t they nerf const? Have fun tanking.

They did, for some reason they buffed bow sky high and keep nerfing tanks. Soon they will be an extinct class, same as the healers. PVP wise they are already gone, it’s a mater of time until PVE tanks are gone as well with these changes
