Some people in my company had some ideas to improve Invasions. They are lazy and figured developers could just read their minds. So, i decided to post them here.
as a player, i would like invasion difficulty to scale with “town quality”, so that invasions are difficult to defend for high quality towns and easier to defend for low quality towns.
as a player, i would like world corruptions to impact frequency of invasions, so that clearing corruptions could lower the frequency of invasions.
For the corruption feature, clearing the corruptions could delay invasions. But as more corruptions get cleared, more start to pop up. So, eventually you can’t prevent the invasions anymore.
Tried to write those in a story format, to make it easier on you developers. Everyone hates writing user stories.
I think the current invasions are adjusted for people with the right gear, the right consumables and the right trophies. We’re currently always getting to 4-7 mins but there’s simply not enough dmg to defend 3-4 bosses at 1 gate. They should make them easier for 1-2 months till we’ve finished to prepare perfectly
We don’t really want them easier. We enjoy the difficulty. We are asking for them to scale. We want the content to be hard, just having a scaling mechanism built in.
Would be nice if they would scale the rewards for the invasion, too. At our server the people don’t play the invasion anymore, because they want to leech free azoth and gold and then going back to ‘normal business’.
I’m one of the folks in prolink’s company who advocates for this stuff and to follow-up on the thoughts here:
Having the Invasions scale based on Town Quality / Average Station Level seems almost intuitive to me. We should have to really work to defend our Tier 5 stations, but a town full of Tier 2s shouldn’t have to require as much effort to defend. Otherwise you’ve got mentalities like “Why defend a town that’s got nothing to offer?” Or “I’ll just take my free gold / Azoth and leave. No use trying.”
This could allow Companies to start letting those sub level 60 players participate in invasions rather than ditching them last minute for a level 60 as a means to increase the incredibly small chance of success. Invasions open at level 50 and having a system where we don’t need all level 60s with three major corruption trophies, corruption bane weapons, etc… to have a shot at clearing would allow us to let those level 50-59 players join in the Invasion fun.
I’m in full agreement the rewards should be scalable. You have folks who admit defeat before the Invasion starts and so there’s no attempt at a reasonable defense. Add a bit of extra gold or Azoth for waves clears or mobs defeated or rank on the leaderboard and we’ll likely get people who try harder. May conflict a bit with the point above, but there’s likely a delicate balance.
I agree that the amount of corruption cleared in an area should influence Invasions via frequency or difficulty. This would give us an incentive to party up and clear the corruption, as it seems most end game players don’t touch the corruption outside of Shattered Mountain.
Just my two cents, and I’m curious to hear what others think.
