Rarity is a feature, not a problem. I understand it’s frustrating to not be able to farm nodes easily, but this is supposed to be an immersive MMO experience, not a single player game where other avatars just happen to be around.
New idea for a new feature! Mutated Expeditions will be turned off anytime the playerbase on a server is over 1,000 online players.
“We want expeditions to be tough, and having too many players online makes it too easy to get a group together to run”.
If you want to experience this content maybe you should
" learn how to deal with it"
“change your [play] times, all servers have a slowdown period”
Hopefully you see how silly this is.
The current version of resources/nodes is extremely POOR design imo. If we had instances we could hop around to, it might be SLIGHTLY better - but this still doesnt combat bots.
If you want to combat bots, you need to restrict the effectiveness of bots. What do bots do? Sit in 1 location 24/7 and run around 24/7 hitting up the same nodes.
What do PLAYERS do? Have the ability to go anywhere, do anything, kill mobs, etc.
Bots would need to evolve, fast travel (costs azoth), possibly easier to flag as bots and ban.
Id rather the game have content for the 99% who DONT gather for HOURS, and allow them (me) to travel to a location, and get t5 resources if I put in the time… Rather than cater to the <1% who can afford to sit in 1 spot and farm for hours, because they just happen to play at non-peak times, or on lower pop servers…
You need to make the game and content for the majority of players, not the minority.
i have to disagree with everything you said, i firmly believe in adjusting your personal adapting and overcoming the problem times rather than secluding and excluding. again, im speaking from experience of being on both high pop and med pop servers. theres always times you can get the resources, but to change the current system to an instanced system would not only kill the economy but probably cost us even more players. this current node system is pretty much standard in all mmos. not sure where the complaint comes from except for those that dont want to grind for what they need to actually work for results. as far as bots go, does it really matter what you do? bot will forever be a part of mmos, thats what these gold sellers do, they crack the system and bots flood in. all you do is punish the community by instancing resources. bots will be programmed to enter them and flood the market, players will enter them and flood the market, there will be zero economy and no way to make money except conquer a town which circles back to mega companies conquering the map. so, no, i dont see what i said as silly, i see it as a proven solution for those that were raised during an era of competition not one of self entitlement.
just a side note, the trading post DOES bring money to the game, it helps fill the pockets of the company that controls the town. and they in turn tend to spend it on buying goods sold by players. so yes, the trading house contributes to the economy.
Some people have families, kids, etc. I revolve my play schedule around my life, not revolve my life around my play schedule.
That said, I already wake up at 5am and play. I stay up past 10pm and play. These are NON PEAK times.
The last dozen+ times I have gone to the Mines at 4:30am or 5am and seen about 3-4 players there all righting for nodes. Ive gone there at 2am, staying up late. Same story. I go down to a more secluded area like in Reekwater to see if I can just hit a couple Ori nodes, nope, bots there with camps set up over the Ori node spawns.
I have already done what you are suggesting. I have been on THREE different servers. When I was on a low pop server, I had zero issues. I logged in at 11pm, and would see maybe 1 other person.
I think YOU lack perspective that on most servers, on more higher pop servers, people are experiencing the problems I am talking about.
Gathering resources should not be this way. Gathering is content. I should be able to log in, take my gathering gear, my potions, travel to a farming location and have a REASONABLE ability to farm resources. Currently the game does not allow for this. Its a problem. It is restricting content that players WANT TO DO, and your solution is what…
“Just revolve your life around the game and log in an non-peak times and it MIGHT allow you to gather resources!”
1000% FALSE.
1000% FALSE.
FALSE. GW2 does personal nodes.
1000% FALSE. I want to grind. I am literally UNABLE to grind, because of other players and bots. I am sorry you cannot see what we are all talking about.
This is blowing my mind you cannot comprehend. This actually BENEFITS the community by allowing players to go to a location and farm. It PUNISHES the community, when farming resources is restricted to only a small % of players who either BOT, play low pop servers, or play non peak times.
the difference here is simply we have had different experiences. i was on a low pop server gathering resources, 3 servers merged into one… suddenly 1500 people on the server… STILL got resources without trouble. transfered to a med pop server to play with friends… still got plenty of resources without trouble. server pop dwindled and merged again to HIGH pop server… 1800+ players… STILL got resources, more difficult but was able to get them.
in all cases all i had to was adjust my times a bit and poof, resources. sometimes had to change territories along with the times but there was always a way. and none of my company of 65 had issues getting resources because they did the same thing i did.
and you need to stop making assumptions, i have a job where im working 50+ hours a week, i have a family, and i barely play 3 hours a day.
your insistence that it CANT be done is probably alot of your problem. being negative creates an air of failure, so you get frustrated quicker and quit quicker.
i had a guy on my third server that had the same attitude you do, until i took him by the hand and led him though my grind pattterns… guess what? he quit belly achin and now is one of the top grinders AND joined our company. and no we dont use bots, we just adapt our mining patterns, we dont camp nodes, we keep moving.
and its blowing my mind that your negativity is blocking your comprehension of these facts and insist that your a victim of a broken system.
So if you only play 3 hours a day, are you spending most of those 3 hours every day to go find starmetal/ori/ironwood/wyrwood? Because you are not wrong… you can indeed go find some nodes if you keep moving across the entire map. If I visit 50 ori nodes, I may indeed find 10 of them available. Of course, the yield of 10 nodes doesn’t even get me enough to get my Asmo cooldown. So I have to go visit another 50 nodes. That’s a couple hours of time to get 10 Asmodean that can’t even craft 1 whole chest piece. Wheeeeeeee! What fun!
Pretty much my experience, to the point its not even worth it and you are better off farming T1 mats to sell and buy Ori Ore, which is just such a lame workaround. I dont want to chop t1/t2 trees for an hour to get a better ROI on my time to then BUY Ori Ore. I enjoy mining ore, I want to mine ore, I want to use my Mining Gear, Mining Trophies, Mining Pickaxe and go mine ore, smelt it etc.
I loved playing Runescape, Albion Online and I would spend hours mining in those games. I could hop into the miners guild areas and mine, or go to various worlds if one was contested and mine. In Albion I would go to the black zones or whatever they are called, at like 5am and Mine T7/t8 resources. They were not contested 24/7 like they are here in New World.
I WANT to farm. But I dont want to spend several minutes traveling to a zone, only to find half a dozen people there already farming those nodes, or bots farming the nodes, and basically sit around fighting for craps. Its such a poor/bad player experience.
so youre admitting it can be done, just that its more difficult than you think it should be and you want it easy. gotcha. the whole thing makes sense now.
I don’t want it easy. I want it fun. I’m not sure why some of you seem to think rng grind = challenge. It does not. It’s not difficult to travel the map looking for ori, don’t kid yourself thinking that it is. It is merely time consuming. My time is valuable and I want a game I play to respect that.
Heck instance all the nodes and have hard mobs guarding them. That would be far more challenging than it is currently, but it would also respect my time because I know there is ori where I am going to look for it, and I know I get to have some fun beating some mobs before I swing my pick.
Bottom line is I don’t want to spend hours looking for a single resource every day so I can craft 1/4th of an item that has a 1/16th chance of being usable. This is not fun.
I understand your concern, but I believe that the economy wont die. There are plenty if players that do not want to level tradeskills or farm resources. They would rather enjoy other aspects of the game. These players would still go to the market for their needs. Players who do not want to wait a week doing crafting dailies everyday will still go to the market to buy asmodeum and ohoenix weave and things like that to craft weapons and armor. The demand for crafting components like charms will still be there. Food and honing stones and potions people dont want to make themselves will still be there.
The biggest change I forsee is that people will be able to level their crafting more, making more crafters, leading to 600 ilvl accessories weapons and armor dropping in price. If you are someone who makes all their money crafting those things, then i Understand your concern, But I think it will benifit the game.
This. 100%. This is a video game. As a gamer in his mid 30s, having a full time career, wife, 3 kids, and still find 20+ hours/week to game (usually at the cost of sleep). I want to log in and run content. I have multiple 625 sets, Ive run all the Mutations M10 Gold. All skills 200, etc. I am not asking for “EASY” content. I am asking to be able to play the content when I find time to fit games into my schedule.
Would be 100% fine with this as well.
Great Summary.
then probably shouldnt be spending money on time consuming mmos lol
About Bots
Most people agree on a 24hs cool down for T5 nodes, so that would actually help with the bot problem. They would log in mine a few nodes and that’s it.
About Punishing the Community
According to MapGenie, there is 205 Ori nodes in NW. That’s more than 3k ores daily, plenty for most players. If you are an avid miner, you could also go for the 317 starmetal. I really can’t see how this will hurt the players, you’ll just need to change your mining routine. Instead of spending hours on the same place, you’ll have to spend hours running all over the place. Personally I think it’s a better experience, but I’m open to critics here.
About ruining the economy
On my server, I’m able to sell water and green wood (normally 0,3 ea). These are literally infinite resources and requires nothing to gather. Yet, people still buy them. Economy in games normally revolves around gold per hour of an activity. It doesn’t matter how abundant a material is, their price will be regulated by the amount of time it takes to gather them.
And that, for me, is the biggest “problem” with instanced nodes. It will equalize the prices of all materials. Iron/Starmetal/Ori will probably have the same value, if they can be gathered in roughly the same time. It could even become like before, when T1 materials costed more than the T5 ones, because you need a bigger amount of them.
Overall, I would still prefer instanced nodes. I would love to go to Mines with my friends to mine together. But I agree that it would make the economy more stale and the game feel less immersive.
Not all MMOs waste your time. This one had many features that were time wasters at launch and IMHO , that is why 90% of the player base has quit. You can see each patch that the Devs have been trying to reduce those items.
clearly not because basic materials for basic needs should not be rare
that is where the disconnect is.
its far worse then that.
To be fair, Bots would need to evolve and likely expand their routes to include fast travel to shrines, run to other ori nodes, mine those, fast travel, run to more nodes, etc. This would be MUCH more complex though and risk of messing this up, compared to the current “run in circles around the same 6 nodes” etc.
I do agree this would combat bots, it will never remove the bots completely (obviously). Heck, it may just shift bots from t5 nodes, back down to lower tier ones where they can do the same thing.
As an avid gatherer myself (I hit 200 in all my gathering skills before hitting 60) I personally would ENJOY gathering more if it involved some thought. Go to nodes, gather them, and fast travel to other locations. Would be more mentally engaging mapping out ALL the routes, and the best ways to do them, versus just auto-pilot a few good spots that are not contested, or you work around them being contested.
I wonder about this as well, which can be balanced around. I think we would likely see bots shift to lower tiers, which will bring those prices down. You can reduce the quantity of materials gathered if t5 resources are in too much abundance. Instead of getting 22-31 from a Medium Ori Node, what if its only 12-21 or something. Control the Quantity of the materials an individual can gather in a day.
You are correct, it comes down to gold/hour farming. Ori also has some barriers to entry in that you need to be ~200 skill and many nodes require you to avoid or kill high level mobs. So it should be more rewarding.
I agree I would prefer it, and I dont know if it would feel less immersive/stale to me. You wont feel like you are always “competing” for nodes. As you said, you can mine together with friends. Do Orichalcum Ore Runs together. Etc.
I think it would require some balancing around quantity, and having a 24hr respawn would HELP with that as you suggested. Controlling Quantity is another way to balance. Adding more difficulty (mobs) around it helps he TIME function. You could also increase the time it takes to actually mine the node (though combatted via 300 STR).
i would love to see your numbers that allow you to speak for most people… or did you mean “most of my friends agree”? well thats not surprising that your friends would agree with you, thats what friends do. there are interactive maps for petes sake that allow you map out routes to and through every node in every region that has been reported to exist. and if you think claiming to have knowledge of what will happen based on what you do on your server? heck i cant claim that, i can only speak with experience that in a competitive style as it is currently… players can make money by providing the resources on the market, if you instance the resources you take that away from those folks. because suddenly iron is worth .3 each and woah would you look at that? star metal is worth .3. its the law of economics. you make claims about economies based on gold per hour… yeah maybe for the hard core gamers but the other gamers that want to make that 20k to buy a house in the third town… now have to work 500 times as hard to earn enough gold to buy that house because guess what? your instancing of nodes has killed the market on the server. i wont say it will happen on every server, but i would guess from experience, it will kill the market on a majority of them.
instancing nodes, simply put, its for those that dont want to find a way to put in the effort to get their resources. dont like how it operates on city of steel because too many miners are there? transfer to a different server with a smaller population. hell, orun and a couple others would probably love to have you. if you just love mining and gathering? go onto the spanish server, only like 150 people there at peak times, PLENTY of resources to be had if thats your gig. but dont, and i sincerely beg you folks and ags, DONT instance the nodes. the market dies and i dont give the game a month before its down to one server per region, and maybe… MAYBE a month after that they announce they are shutting off the servers.
Blah Blah Blah Blah. Everyone has the same doom and gloom outcome predicted for every change they don’t like. The only change that would actually accomplish that outcome is the whole “lets wipe the game clean and restart.” Well that and probably a change to force PvP on everyone (since there is a large crowd that wants nothing to do with it…).
these are your examples of putting in effort?
leaving your server your friends your company?
seriously?
you honestly could of thrown in quit your job play only at 3 in the morning to farm.
or even divorce your significant other, play vijia games all day and all night.
