Is it time for New World to become PvP game exclusively?

Ok, so here’s the thing you bishes.

Most of you will ignore this thread and will carry on as they were, some might call me names here, I don’t care. This probably won’t change anyone’s opinion either so I guess it’s just my own rant, oh well.

I am no one. Nobody. Just a random grey person who enjoyed playing MMO(RPG)s for the past 15+ years. I “wasted” tons of hours in various titles, from crappiest craps to good and awesome games.

I have (for the most part of it) enjoyed every one of them in some way, even if the game wasn’t that good, it might’ve had a feature or some mechanic that was fun and enjoyable.

I also usually kept my playing to myself, while people were waging wars, discussions, arguments etc, I was minding my own business, playing either solo or with some group of people who also wanted to have fun.

So no, I am not a hardcore player my apologies. I am not min/maxer and I am far from being best in any of the games I played, so you can call me whatever you want, but I am really pissed off now with tis approach NW is taking.

Yes, MMOs are hard to develop and maintain, they are live game services that are constantly accessible (or at least should be), constantly changing and there is a TON of stuff to look at, but every time, again and again, it feels like AGS people are not sure what they are doing and this whole NW game is just an experiment and we are guinea pigs.

When the first Beta came out, I didn’t spend much time in it, I found the game bit clunky, with just a few weapons available, but I wasn’t also paying much attention overall, distracted with otehr games, life events, whatever. But I thought to myself I will give it a chance when it comes out as I lost touch bit with MMOs in the recent years (my beloved ones, if anyone even wonders is Guild Wars 2) so I decided to get back to it.

Didn’t plan that initially, but upon further research and finding out there is a somewhat of “Holy Trinity” division of the roles (Tank, Heal, DPS - with a lot of variety) decided to go for a healer, yes, you guessed it.

What you also will probably guess as well is that I am not a big on PvP and my enjoyment of the game always was more of a PvE side, so even with some of the games with “full PvP” like Albion for example, I was focusing on crafting and supporting PvP part of the game with stuff like equipment etc for our guilds so they can go and fight the wars. I did enjoy PvP in GW2 as it was completely separated and you didn’t even have to participate in any way if you didn’t want to and that was fine. Yes, there is no “Holy Trinity” rule in GW2 but nevertheless PvP is a separate segment of the game.

And here we are with NW now. This experiment. Experiment I enjoy(ed) so far, especially when I was learning and getting experienced with being PvE healer. I have not done a single War, my PC is too crappy for this plus I don’t care that much as stated before. But ever since day one I noticed that more and more this game shifts to be PvP heavier / interested in, rather than PvE experience.

  • Expeditions are crap unfortunately, not rewarding enough (exp + gold) plus being able to access them only once with one key is a bit of a turnoff as well
  • Because of the first, it is extremely hard to find people to run it, especially if you want to just run it with some pugs / randoms
  • Trying to find gear appropriate for your build with not enough filters takes too long and just wastes the time
  • Getting to them is a pain as well, you always just running in this game, what’s up with that?
  • People on 60s, and maybe that’s just due to my low pop server, but barely are looking for any of the last 2-3 dungeons (I am far from it to get there yet, but still, it’s not a incentive to see that).

So yeah, I guess what I’m trying to say is that, with each patch, NW becomes more PvP focused, only wars wars wars and because of that PvE is suffering with the upcoming heal nerf…I mean come on, why am I being punished for being paladin/heavy healer/whatever you want to call it in PvE for the sake of PvP community?

I am not a pro healer, I am still learning and trying to get better but I guess now it will be either “git gud” or gtfo in such case. And no, I do not feel like changing to Light Armor as people were/are suggesting all around, why should I? This is just driving meta more and more narrow, something that could’ve been treated as “off healer” or “off tank” in PvE, now won’t even have a right to exist. It is really discouraging, when trying to excel in just one thing and being hit with something like this, takes away the fun and enjoyment.

I don’t think I want to be trying any other builds, I was looking to LS/VG combo to be even more helpful/supportive in my role, but guess now it’s either going fully crafting (which also is getting nerfed as far as I know) or literally dropping the game, which I guess wouldn’t be the worst thing, I can always go back to my 6k hours in GW2 and someone else can take my place here and focus more on PvP.

Shame, NW is kind of fresh, really good looking game, but it just shows how it doesn’t matter after all, to all of you hardcore PvP gamers, you won, go enjoy your constant wars and pvping and smashing each other faces with hammers and shields, to any PvE gamers who will endure and keep struggling, I might still see you out there and to people like myself (probably not many) go forth and find your new “New World” if you wish so. I might do that as well.

Peace out hombres!

If they go full pvp, they’ll lose all their casual playerbase (more than 50-60% of their users).

PVP games are niche, it only attracts the hardcore audience that it is very loud, but very little. It’s not a good call from a financial point of view.

I’m at your side, I want this game to focus more on the PvE side. PVP games proved to be not very profitable in time with a few exceptions, but most succesfull games are inclined towards PVE activities (Gw2, WoW, FFXIV, ESO, etc) with “optional” pvp for the smaller audience.

I’m afraid this game going the same route as GW2 with dungeons and abandon them. (luckily GW2 reinvent them with fractals).

yes

I agree with most of what you stated there, they call us carebears, crybabies but they’re the ones that are crying and ruining the game for everyone else. Only thing I don’t agree on all your statements is about pvp being separated in GW2. PVP infects there as well. If you want the best pve gear of the game you will need to step on pvp, and before someone here say that’s not true, you will need gift of battle that is a reward track from WvW that’s just a stupid name for group pvp. So back to your post, The only viable solution here is give PVE community total control to outpost upgrades without the need to touch pvp and give pvp crowd their pvp server, and revert the gear configs as they were at launch day.

Wow, thanks for the read!
Yes, while you are right (mostly) about PvP / PvE balance, I think AGS might eventually come to conclusion, there is a way of getting more out of this smaller, more vocal (louder) PvP community.
I mean, we already have benefits and “rewards” of some sort for holding the territory which also impacts PvE player base (taxes etc) and that is the bit where this smaller, more vocal player base is dictating the outcomes a bit, isn’t it?

There’s still hope and fingers crossed PvE won’t derail completely as I think it could have worse outcomes than just “neglecting dungeons in GW2” as there is basically not enough PvE content to compensate for crappy Expeditions system.

Thanks for input!
Yes, my apologies, I forgot the bit for the Gift of Battle (it was so many years ago, lol.) but that was easily doable while running with zerg (which was actually fun for me, even though my PC suffered back then as well) and from what I understand that might’ve changed now (I only play on and off GW2 now, not really following it unfortunately) but also, I don’t think Ascended gear needed gift of battle? Only Legendary. Anyway, the PvP input was less and I think easier obtained still.

I think Outposts/Hamlets/Areas should be controlled by winning Wars, that is fine, but yeah, make it that Healing/Armoring/Resilience, etc works differently in Wars/PvP and different in PvE, which I do believe was/is the case with GW2 for example again. But because it feels like AGS is barely crawling in making NW even work, they wouldn’t have a clue how to implement it, without breaking majority of stuff…

No.

thank you!

I couldn’t agree more with everything said about new world. I played pvp in gw2 as well which was also fun.

I like the pvp in new world but I also really enjoy the pve side of the game…crafting too. I usually play healer in mmo games… was a doc in SWG, defiler on one char and pally on another char eq2. In new world I went the pally build.

I understand that currently the heavy armour full heal build of pvp is way way over powered as it stands… the is not the case in the pve content with elite plus bosses and the stupidly ridiculous respawn times.

I agree they are moving way more towards pure pvp …

I feel like they have done or are doing the old bait and switch lol.

And for that reason, I’m out.

Ah, shame to hear that, but understandable as I mentioned. I’ll give it one more chance, keep an eye on how things develop, but I learned by now with so many MMOs tried that at the end of the day it is not worth clinging onto something that stopped giving you fun and enjoyment. Thanks for sharing!

This game started as a full loot pvp “experience” and there is a reason they pulled away from it. No, this is a horrible idea. There are less “hardcore pvpers” than you think.

PTR amped gold on 1
for XP just go to faction guy and the repeatable, they have quests for expeditions

2 Is not true, it’s because tuning orb fragment requirements are complete ass due to corruption breaches being stingy on giving them to you.

3 yeah trading post sucks, worse in PTR

4 how is this a PVE problem?

5 read number 2, now add in the fact that those expeditions require some actual ability and how much those orbs are worth with how watermarking works

It’s literally not, your precious life staff has gotten it’s previous ‘nerf’ to properly function and even then, blessed ground, lights embrace and beacon are still perfectly functional in heavy

The PVE crowd already ruined combat with the whinging about stagger

Should NW become a PvP game exclusively I’d leave in a heartbeat and never look back and I highly doubt I’d be the only one.
I sincerely question that going back to a PvP game would be in the best interest of AGS.

Sure, you can do that, but it would’ve been nice if even without grabbing those, exp was bit more generous, making sure to remember to each time get the quest and faction shouldn’t be a necessity. Not to mention faction question, won’t always include Expedition one.

So, that kind of only confirms its badly designed, not to mention (which I completely forgot in original post) that barely anyone (again, maybe just due to my crappy server) is running portals anymore, has to be for a reason that people prefer elite zones, yet it’s Portals that are allowing us to gather materials for crafting orbs…bad.

Not as much PvE as overall game, just such a waste of time having to run slowly everywhere unless you want to drain your Azoth really quickly. PTR done a nice feature of running faster on beaten roads/tracks, even if it is a samll add, I hope it will be implemented on the live servers if mounts are nowhere near / ever adding.

That’ll be again a design that is bit flawed at the moment. Considering this affects both PvE and PvP. Of course last 2-3 expedition should require ability/skill/cooperation, but must be a reason again, if even the best organized parties don’t want to run Lazarus or Genesis ones, unless they have to do the Story quest, once. (Not sure if it applies, I am not even 60 yet, but so far that’s been the case with each expedition being part of the story).

Even then you say, ok sure, so why nerfing something that is “perfectly functional” (for PvE?) now? This will make it to “kind of functional” or “sub-functional” following that way? And my precious lifestaff is the only thing that allwos me to keep precious lives alive in PvE, I would guess same in PvP…

Again, I see no problem (AGS surely does see it unfortunately) to make stagger work differently between PvE and PvP, let us move away/unblock us from being locked when hit by 5+ mobs in PvE and let you PvP folks stay staggered for as long as you want.

Keeping PvP and PvE “balanced” on the same levels in the same world is terrible and there will never be plasing of both worlds this way.

my hubby and i actually met on a pure rpg(you were required to RP your character all the time) OWPVP-only game, we both played it for over 10 years, and yep i kicked his ass fighting. i love pvp, but i don’t enjoy how owpvp has turned to ganking, camping, mob hunting solos, and am very not interested in unwilling forced flagged victims… so, yes i am a pvp prefered player, but i guess more selective than a lot of the vocal minority. i seriously miss actual skills in aiming, timing etc being required skills to win fights, not just gear or levels.

that being said, we’re both older now, and have been playing games like both eq/eq2/vanguard/wow for him/and tons of other assorted mainly pve (tab targetting pvp is lame to me and not pvp in my books after trying it) games for over 20 years. it’s been a long wait for another mmo with owpvp that had the same potential as Underlight(hey it still exists since '97 in some form or another).

after the shitshow in alpha with the very predictable results of full loot- OWPVP-full pvp without flagging and no limits or way to control the gankers… like when you’re being killed the second you’re logging in for the first time, unable to leave the beach. we weren’t interested in the game, just had no appeal to see only the first tutorial cut scene and that’s it and it clearly wasn’t just us. it’s bad for business and AGS decided to go PVX. when the beta came near and with the changes, we were interested again, because we like having options to avoid the idiots and being able to pve as well when it came to crafting etc.

all the forced flagging ideas, do not appeal to us, neither does going fully pve only. the problem is, so far there is a very loud pvp only minority(pvp in an rpgmmo IS a minority), screaming group in the forums. the forums aren’t really the majority of players, most are like my hubby who only reads them, never actually making posts or responding to them. then there is comparision to different games, which are pvp, but not even the same style(like rust as an easy example)… so comparing them and pointing out these other games are successful in being a pvp mmo, doesn’t work.

while the game definitely needs a lot more work, it is a PVX RPG with a storyline, PVP controlling some elements(towns), and a supposed to be PVE(crafting, gathering/minging/etc) driven economy. OWPVP hasn’t been a strong element in the game since 2019, if they for OWPVP, it will drive many players, us included, away… unless they bring in ways to make PVP more balanced and controlled to prevent the shitty ganking, camping, and mobs hunting solos.

That’s very cool you two met via playing RPG on a RP server, I tried RP few times, but wasn’t my cup of tea in the end, definitely fun though!

Balance of such things will always be the biggest issue, but there are definitely more ways of trying to keep the best of both worlds happy, just seems like AGS hasn’t come up with any of ideas themselves yet…probably waiting for us to let them know.

OWPVP is definitely not a way, but sadly, in any given PvP scenario where ganking, camping etc is allowed, there will be people using those “tactics” even if it’s frowned upon by rest of the player based, such is the world we live in.

The only thing the PTR nerfed that slightly matters is dropping lights embrace base heal to 80%, sacred ground got a nerf to mana/stamina regen and is 16% HoT, beacon is 16% HoT as well, lmb heal is 16%

The only concerning nerf is the stamina regen

Lights embrace’s secondary effect and blessed ground are still the most powerful tools in your arsenal as a healer

ptr also has a bow(my main) nerf… between that and a few others things, i think i’m pretty much done.
