Is leveling crafting worth the effort?

Apart from some items needed for normal character progression, is leveling crafting worth the effort beyond menial items?

It seems that the crafting system is fun from the crafting point of view and enjoyable to level.

But beyond that, does it really influence the game’s economy by being able to successfully sell crafted gear that is treasured by all players and actually makes the crafter real money? Or does it lose out to looted and dungeon gear?

I only ask because crafting so far does not really seem to add a lot to the game as far as I can see.

I see that harvesting can make money by selling what is collected but not sure about crafting…

Can any high-level crafters enlighten me?

If you want to craft your weekly orb and do the legendary weapon quests then yes.

If you just want to run around and kill random players or monsters and hope someone else will bring you using their orbs, then no.

If you want the absolutely best current 600 GS gear, then yes. You need to craft.

It depends entirely on what you want out of the game.

Can you make tons of money selling crafted gear?

if i am not mistaken, the high end crafted gear are bind on pick up

Crafting - bags, bigger bags, even bigger and better bags. Chests for houses, bigger chests for houses, even bigger and better chests for houses.

Also, orbs for dungeons. Food for buffs, potions for potions.

Also, notoriety among your friends, fame and fortune, many painful blisters and splinters.

This game is what you make of it…

On my way to 107 engineering currently and 79 furnishing I have made 45k from selling steel/starmetal tools and chests/trophies. There is alot of money to be made while crafting. I collected all the materials on my own. Starmetal tools on my server still currently selling from 350-500 gold with 3 perks. Chests selling at 800 gold still even for just hewn. Trophies 250-400

No. You lose tons of money.

If you want money you sell the raw materials.

The only ones who made money with crafting were the first guys. Now it’s just a waste of gold.

Really? That sucks if it is true. Crafting is a tedious process and if you finally can make great gear but cannot sell it then that really blows, not to mention forcing people who hate crafting to join the grind

I am sure there maybe some other gear that is accessible not via crafting, but those for crafting maybe more like a reward for their effort and grind?

Total worth it, in the current situation of the game there will be not much to do with the amount of materials that are being gathered, so get everything you can to max while it’s easy cause when they launch new stuff you won’t have to start it from the scrap.

For most hardcore crafters the reward is being able to sell their wares after the long grind. The only people who care about the exclusive ‘best gear’ BoP are those who reluctantly grinded crafting because they had to in order to get the BiS rather than from any joy.

It has always bothered me the way games do this. Those who hate crafting curse the game because they now have to do it for BiS. Those who love crafting curse the game because after so much work grinding the craft, they can finally make stuff to become a ‘merchant’ only to find they cannot even sell the only gear worth seling. The market also gets flooded with gear which makes lvling a craft worthles for profit because in addition to crafters making stuff to lvl you now how have 100s of other players who hate crafting also lvling.

Crafters want to make and sell stuff, Adventurers want great gear…it should be a match made in heaven, but BoP screws this up because the crafter can’t sell the best stuff and the Adventurer has been forced to learn the craft anyway.

And how!

Such a simple concept that gets screwed up in a LOT of games. =/
