Is New World in managed decline?

Some could find this disturbing.

if you are this disturbed you must be down with the sickness

My dad used to tell me and my brother all the time, “Will you two knock it off? How about I piss in a bucket and you two can argue over whose bucket of piss it is!”

As someone who grew up without a dad, I laughed, this is great.

Dad jokes are the highest form of humor?

I dunno about that, but the levity is appreciated.

I think this is the biggest source of player frustration.

Most people would be totally fine with a dev post just saying “hey cross-server playlists are a complex issue but it’s our number one priority and we’ve made great progress on it the past few months.”

But instead we get: “hey we spent the past few months working on leaderboards no one asked for or wanted, which will show who spent the most time hit-trading with a friend for the past 3 months.”

The reason dev is out of touch is pretty obvious, they’ve consistently been out of touch because the people making the game have no MMO experience and didn’t consult with long time players of the genre or hire anyone even in hard times that had experience to help.

Oh they hired a community manager with experience… so that tells me they’re more interested in damage control and optics than actually developing a great game.

How am I wrong? Have they hired experienced MMO developers and consultants with 20 years experience in the genre to help out? Oh, no? Okay.

Just to be clear, are we saying that they should hire a community manager without experience? Maybe the current community manger is being moved into development. Maybe they are going elsewhere? Stuff happens and people move around, I feel like this is unnecessarily nitpicking on AGS. Regardless community managers are needed and used in every game whether or not that title is explicitly used to describe their role.

I’m not saying I agree with every move they make or even the majority of them, but criticizing to this level is the wrong approach to provide suggestions for improving the game/community.

I think we all want the same thing here.

No, we’re saying hiring experienced developers should be prioritized over finding a new community manager.

I re-read your post and you are right, I understood your original post wrong. My apology. You are right there are action combat games better optimised. My point was TAB target games are much “lighter” to data than combat action games. I am pretty sure we could have like 5k players on one server if NW was tab target.

Peace

Respect. Not many have the ability to self-reflect and correct.

Hope your day goes well.

From datamining we know Brimstone was already there day 1. It was held back to make it seem like content was being added.

When you take that away you realize after the initial release and rest of 2021 AGS clearly moved 80-90% of the dev team to future projects. Things they say they have fixed have never actually been fixed, like mass report banning. Clearly it’s still a thing and even their own content creators can be hit by it in 2023 (JJ being banned for it mid week and no employee even looked at it til the following monday). Things that should have been fixed are now apparently roadmap content, like sacred ground/ice storm colors being different and cross server opr.

The devs are gone. The company has 2 unannounced projects and a tomb raider game in the works. That is most likely where all the devs have been assigned.

hahaha no

I don’t know how many hours you’ve played since OCT of 2021…but the SS Refund sailed, got lost at sea, hit a reef, and sank with all hands a long time ago.

ESO would like a word with you.

Atrocious performance.

Yeah I’ve gotten my moneys worth out of new world. I made it work for me and found fun in it.

But there are LOTS AND LOTS of people who never reached max level. Who never put any meaningful time into the game.

These people were essentially duped into buying an incomplete product and didn’t get their moneys worth.

Maybe by admitting it after a full 1.5 years later they were hoping to dodge some of this. But when you release a broken game that can’t even handle its own data flow you should be called out.

haha. touche’

Oh, holy crap, I did not know that… and to see all this time later they released it with almost nothing to do in the zone is disappointing to say the least.

They got about 3 people working on this game.

No, what we know, all we know, is that landmass existed in something resembling the form it has today. It wasn’t populated, there were no NPCs, the was no expedition designed, no quests etc…

Saying it was ready day one is simply BS.

Never sure what the point of these topics are. I guess it’s just like a rant in GC. Whatever the reasons, this is where we are.

I could say “how can the game release without a proper leveling experience. Do you know how many players left because I tell them ‘I know getting to lv60 is a horrible couple of hundred hours, but you get to play the real game once you get there’” and we could rant and debate that, but does it help?

Do we know the dev cost of reworking the leveling? It likely makes zero difference to how long to add cross-server since it’s a completely different set of skills.

You say “cross server should of been there since day1”. Well no, not if the game you are designing doesn’t need it. If it then turns out you do need it where in the past year do you put people on it? The first months of NW were rough, fire fighting bugs etc. Then there is learning of how the game is evolving and what is best to prioritise.

Cross server? If there are a few hundred people playing on a server and not even 6 of them want to do 3v3 (I see this all time), is cross server a priority? Playing Devil’s Advocate a bit here, but my point is we can debate and rant about this kind of stuff all day, but surely there are better posts than can be made.
