Is New World pay to win?

Well, every time I log in to the game I see people selling gold. So, I guess if people have more money than me or wish to spend real currency for gold than yes–it’s pay to win. Why am I sinking time in to this game acquiring gold when someone can easily find a website to just buy gold? Are they going to crack down on gold sellers? Do they have enough people working at AGS to handle the situation? It’s pathetic.

No, the one thing it is not is pay to win in any way, shape or form.

Problems though? Well…

considering AGS seems to tolerate botters, cheaters, dupers, and gold buyers, id say yes it is pay to win.

you can buy all the best in slot gear and weapons with gold. Anyone who says it’s not p2w is delusional. Yes people p2w this game, and there’s a lot of rwt from botters and from top companies that own the major income zones. No AGS isn’t doing anything significant enough to stop this; the only way they could stop it is by removing tradeable gear, which will most likely never happen.

100 bucks gets someone 100k gold. Seems pay to win.

It kinda is pay to win. At least in the sense that you cannot drop in PVE good BiS PVP gear… (exceptions of weapons, some drop on dungeons are very good) In all my play time, around 1000 hours or more, I won’t lie and maybe I’ve dropped 2 or 3 BiS gear. Not only you need to drop it for your build, and not for mage while you are tank but also be compatible with the gear you actually possess. That way, obtaining a full set of BiS or near BiS item is almost impossible for normal players.

The only solution to do it is crafting. But, to be able to craft one BiS 600 gs piece of equipment… You will need to craft for around 200k gold on average on materials… 5 times are there are 5 pieces of armor. (Let’s not even talk about jewelry…) Sure, you can make a little bit of gold back by selling the wrong items you crafted… But the market is kinda satured with those and you won’t get back or barely the price of mats.

Thus, player have 2 solutions. Either you farm 8 hours a day to make gold of your own, or you are part of a company that own the main cities and generate 2 millions gold per week out of thin air without any effort involved. No wonder that there are a lot of players that thus turn to gold selling websites…

In theory… You are right, the game is not pay to win.

In practice… that’s a whole other story.

Disagree.

Most seem to think almost anything is p2w cuz internet sensibility, but that isn’t it. I’m not trying to change minds so you guys can believe what you will.

Nah, not really.

It was extremely exploit to win, less so now but it is still present and alive. (or just out right cheat and never got banned, happened a lot as well)

The first few months, unfortunately, allowed some players to get a significant edge and once you have an edge it becomes easy to maintain that advantage. This happens in all MMOs, little more pronounced here because of companies owning towns.

Not nearly as many did it legitimately, as claim they did. But what’s done is done. RMT stuff is unfortunate but it can only get a player so far, I don’t worry about RMT other than that the harvesting bots are annoying. I don’t even care if they sell those accounts when they hit 60, there is so much to do once you hit 60 that a new player that buys a lvl 60 account and even 50k gold would still be way behind. Plus NW needs new players, haha.

The early players are the one driving the bus and it will be hard to unseat them.
