Is no one going to adress this?

I absolutely agree. More accessibility and moving this game towards being skill based is super positive. All my friends that tried it hated the gearing system as it is.

This is another reason why the game is dead. You think most of the player base wants to pointlessly grind for hundreds of hours just to get gear for PvP? No. Gear should not require the dumb grind that it does now. Gear should be easy to get so players can have fun skill based PvP and not die because they are heavily out geared. I don’t want to kill people because I out gear them. That is boring. There is a lot of other things the devs could add to make grinding fun like add transmog, add mounts and grindable skins, add challenging world bosses, add open world events like fishing and hunting. There is so much they could add. Removing the gear grind will be a great addition to the game so PvP can be skill based and not grind based.

So to you there are only two types of drop, trash or BiS? No grey area between these? What is your suggestion for the frequency of BiS drops then as there seems to be a lot of people on these forums complaining that they have to grind 500+ hours to get a BiS for them.

I like this change. Purples are worthless right now, even with 2 nice perks. This gives a shot at taking 2 solid perks and trying to get a 3rd. BIS is another story. Very few of the 2 perkers you pick up and decide to gamble with umbrals will magically pop a killer 3rd perk. Most will pop total garbage. But at least this will give a small chance, where previously there was none.

I do chest runs every day, and have gotten 1 item I would consider BIS in a year of playing. The other 100k or so items went straight into the garbage. The amount of garbage drops in this game is crazy.

Again, I don’t see BIS suddenly raining like a candy. Sure they will be more common, but at current prices this has to be a good thing. Plus with shifting meta, the amount of crying from having to totally regear will be drastically reduced. And casuals will now have a shot at decent gear. I’m seeing no downside here.

Dude…OPR weapons already do this when upgraded. For months. It killed nothing.

the difference between the “haves” and “have-nots” its too vast imo seems solid

True, they changed their statement. I didn’t know, my bad.

In effect, all this change amounts to is:

  • Items will now roll legendary instead of 590+ epic
  • This will consume some umbral shards
  • You can opt not to do this

Or…

  • Slightly increased the changes an item will roll legendary instead of 590+ epic

The funny thing about those who claim this will break the economy is that this will probably boost the epic item economy substantially; the “ideal” 2 perker items will get bought at much higher values and then instantly deleted as they get rolled into a 2/3 perk legendary - this is a huge boost to an economy. The other funny thing is, anyone hoping to roll even a somewhat good legendary should probably go try this on the PTR with the gear boxes play testers get. You literally get unlimited rolls for guaranteed legendary items (you can delete a character and try again, just for fun).

They should go try that and report back how many were BIS. Or even 2/3 BIS

The biggest impact this change will have is for PVP players from OPR boxes (the armour items, that is). This is an insanely positive change. PVP players deserve this. They’ll still only mostly get garbage items though. But it’s still a hugely positive change.

The hamster wheel of a grind* (fixed) which not a single, sane person actually enjoys doing through and through.

Considering how low the chances are for decent 3rd perk roll and how dogpoop crafting (goldsink) is in this game anyone with half a brain can agree that this is a good change.

Once we have decent gold sinks added to the game it can be reverted. Atm it is a much needed change. If a game averages 18k players “casual friendly” QoL changes are a must. New World will not survive otherwise or will remain a niche. Unless you think that people who want good items should do nothing more than endgame PvE grind for weeks and months on end (in a game with one of the lowest PvE standards in the industry) to get decent gear regardless of the circumstances then more power to ya. WoW is what you are looking for.

As for the “killing the economy” argument it’s just silly and short-sighted. Breaking it down would be even more of a waste of time than what I did above.

This part right here is just a neon sign saying “panic in the disco post”, exaggeration.

Your profits may potentially get cut short, but it will most certainly not happen overnight. Chill.

So its only for weapons and not armour. Attunement is bis on every weapon, easily bo matter what. Especially with the blanket crit dmg nerf. So in summery only magic weapons will benefit from keen+ vicious with attunment still being better. Rapier hatchet will have 1.3 crit multiplier so sure they get 7% bonus dmg vs full resil with vicious, but enchanted is far better for both weapons now. Great axe has some benefit with 1.35 crit so they get the full benefit of vicious. Otherwise vicious and keen are more dead perks on most weapons making attunement even more bis. You can have and get all the random purple weapons and upgrade them (like you can in opr now in live) and they will still be not even close to bis or even really usable in pvp becase there are no good traits

In summary:

No attunment = worthless weapon

Attunement gained from crafting only or super luck rng from m10 drops

This change of upgrading more purple trash into non attunement gold trash is a waste of umbral shards

This is already in live with opr caches and makes no difference because attunement is so strong and is not obtainable

So. Yeah.

IMO - They are addressing issues with player retention. The game was not made for the casual player and this is the type of change is made to keep them playing. NW is operating with the same player base you see in games that have been out for a very long time that are legacy(UO,EQ etc). A new player is so far behind and the current system is not designed to get them caught up. NW is not like Wow that can put out an expansion every 2 years and completely trash existing progress. Its not a good spot to be in, honestly don’t think they can keep the current group of players while making the game accessible to the casual player.

“getting BiS gear is too hard and grindy!”
they make it much easier
“getting BiS is too easy and will destroy the economy!”

Right now I don’t think this is a bad idea because the gear system is broken from the start. You being able to get a leggo with useless perks (indestructible for example) already shows how broke the system is.
Maybe perks should’ve had different tiers (I think all resources for perks are uncommon now, right?) so a blue perk couldn’t get into a legendary gear.
But we don’t have that, and even if we had there’s the problem of categorizing all the perks/resources.
I think we just got used to legendaries being useless and now it’s whatever.
