Is This BANNABLE (against TOS)

WE WILL KNOW ! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO

If this is against the TOS, they are gunna have to ban alot of other programs too… you know like Steam…

I don’t follow :v

There are multiple programs that allow web browser overlays like Skeleton, Steam being one of them.

I don’t think he’s really asking whether or not the program itself is bannable, but if it’s bannable to use it to have something like new world map on top of your game. Which it probably is…didn’t they ban people using overwolf to basically do that? You have to like turn off a bunch of stuff to use overwolf I think.

As far as I am aware, so grain of salt, no one has been banned for usingany of the overlays. AGS has made the Minimap go through various changes to make it compliant with their TOS, but as far as I know no players have been actioned for using them.

Overwolf also has a browser feature that works similar to Skeleton, it is still allowed last time I checked.

I think the best advice is to use at your own risk.

I want to say I’ve seen some people complaining about it a long time ago but yeah idk for sure.

Ya theres various forum articles regarding overwolf but they way its laid out and from what ive read, as long as the “app” you are using isnt extracting more than the player location such as information on whether or not the iron vein has been mined already, the exact locations of saod nodes, then its ok. All im asking is, “can you be banned for using skeleton in this way that is laid out in the video?” A yes or no from the devs would be great!

My pleasure!

That’s what I thought the rules surrounding these things were like. You can use it but with caveats

Exactly what im asking, thank you for pointing that out, sometimes i dont word things the way they’re laid out in my head lol.

Obviously I can’t tell you for sure, but I would say that they probably wouldn’t allow it to be used like this because it shows you locations of nodes and exactly where you are haha.

The thing of it is that even if the browser overlay was a no no… people with a second monitor can just do the same thing with any plain old web browser.

Is AGS going to block second monitors? Or phones? You can use your smartphone’s browser the same way. Or smart tv’s. Or laptop. Or second desktop.

…anything that can browse the internet.

Judging from the Dev Blog I linked earlier, this may be a ToS violation due to the below portion, which I have bolded for emphasis. Basically, since this allows a much larger “range” to be displayed than what the in-game Compass shows, it could be considered a violation, in my understanding.

I think it’s a question of the definition of a minimap.
They were referring to the Overwolf minimaps, which are technically inject to the game.
Tools like Skeleton do not i jet to the game.

Websites like aeternum-map.gg or newworld-map.com showing nodes, which would be forbidden if they were minimaps. Skeleton is displaying these websites without the browser frame, so it’s technically still the website.

That’s why, I think this list is not applying here.

The rest of the Dev Blog I listed shows why AGS did not, at the time, want to spend resources to develop a mini-map. Some of them were, loosely paraphrasing, that combat in New World requires situational awareness, which a mini-map could detract from. Additionally, a mini-map would ruin immersion, which would take away player focus from the design/intention of the way the game was developed.

Since the way Skeleton is being used, to overlay on your screen the map website, which then functions exactly like a mini-map would, to my understanding, this falls under the same category of what the Dev Blog covered.

If you are using a second monitor, that is a separate argument to make and not something the Dev Blog I posted covers.

These are just my opinions though, so we will have to wait on AGS to make a decision. :person_shrugging:

Good thing is that nobody will know how to ask this very same question in a few days when the forums go down.
Or get news about how the Devs consider those minimaps instead of finding out when you get banned.
