I really enjoy events in games, and NW always has really fun events that i actually enjoy grinding out at any level.
However, especially with the recent uptick in players because of the steam sale, I’m predicting a number of incoming complaints from new players, since the main mission to get the Ichor needed for the cauldron is in more high level areas. (and only in high level areas.) with now way for the newer plays to participate in the event without either:
being heavily escorted by high level players into the area and protected during the fight, if a higher level player group doesn’t immediately kick them from groups for even making the attempt. (on my…3rd PTR run? level 25 on the 3rd run through, getting kicked from event groups is pretty funny.)
having a high level friend grind out the event for them to give them tokens/buy them what they want. Wish isn’t really satisfying for many.
So, how can they make the event more low-level friendly? theres a couple of ways I can think of off the top of my head.
Rebalance the bossfight to get the the ichor and make him available in places like everfall and windsward.
have the little pumpkin dudes wander around beginner areas, make them drop ichor and tokens as well. (though its not quite as fun as the boss fight)
This week alone I think i know 5 people who bought the game, and i know many who already have it that play consistently or talk about returning once the big update drops, I would hate to see them get frustrated/quit of an event that feels unwelcoming to the newbies.
I have been playing this game consistently since beta, and overall I’m incredibly happy with all the ways its grown since its launch last year. Thanks for all the hard work, devs!
I leveled 1-60 on PTR. I have been trying to finish the Halloween event since I hit 35. This has been impossible because the ranged elites that spawn in target me first and then one shot me. I would attempt it again every 5 levels, still constantly dying and never getting contribution once the boss dies.
I know how the fight works. Kill the level 35 adds. Throw the pumpkin heads they drop. Dodge out of the green rings. The healing pools dropped do nothing when you’re getting one shot.
Now that I finally hit 60 there is no one still doing the boss. Every time I’ve shown up when it’s been announced in world chat only around 5 people come. Once people do it one time they are done and never do it again.
As a casual holiday events are one thing I love about MMOs. Really boggling to me there is nothing for a low level. Killing rabbits for the Easter chest was good any one could do that. I absoultely loved the Christmas event. Finding presents along the road and the meteors that dropped crystals was cool as heck.
I agree! even the summer medleyfaire and the winter yetis had something for low levels, its truly mind boggling to me as well and it makes it super difficult to DO an event when most people want to do their own thing.
This is a headscratcher for me as well. In any MMO I’ve played including NW (no I haven’t played them all lol) seasonal events tend to be for everyone, even tilted at lower levels in a lot of cases.
But the Halloween event is only for high levels? At a time when the game is getting biggest influx of players since launch with a new 1-25 leveling experience that even a lot of existing players will want to roll a new character for? Weird.
I do. But they could quickly clear this up by saying this is the first stage of the halloween event. At least add lower level bosses in the under 60 zones. If there’s a concern of high levels dominating the lower level areas, gate it so that +/- 10 levels from boss = no reward.
Why they wouldn’t make annual holiday events accessible to all is mystifying.
