As someone stated before, old school MMO’s had game masters logged into the server 24x7, so you could report bots, dupes, cheating, etc. And it worked.
I’m really confused that Amazon has not chosen to put a Game Master on all the servers, hell, it doesn’t even need to be 24x7. Not even every day. Just let players report bots and cheaters to the game master, so their accounts can be banned. It’s really that simple.
GMs disappeared some years ago when gaming companies decided they were an unnecessary use of resources and the meta business model became, “Here play with this turd. Don’t like it? Just buy a Gladiator skin in the store and you’ll love it, promise.”
Here we all sit playing with our turds.
In the last dev update they stated they’ve got GMs running around in game now attempting to address the bot reports. No clue how many, or how active they are, but it’s supposedly something that is happening.
I’m not at all confused. Shortly after launch there were 600 servers…was hiring 1800 GMs ever in the cards - even if the game had kept those player numbers? I don’t think so.
I think what is reasonable is a team of GMs who a) rotate around the servers on a drop-in basis and b) get a targeted list of reported bots to observe on a daily basis and perma-ban them as soon as they determine they’re actually observing a bot. No 3-strike rule, no nothing, instant account bans, forever.
Back in Asheron’s Call each server (world) had a world GM, not 3 who were there around the clock. On Leafcull that was Belgarath - who was not only an amazing resource but someone I wound up becoming pretty good friends with and who eventually wound up joining my Monarchy. I’m pretty sure a GM today joining a company or guild wouldn’t fly - but it was a different time and the player base was dramatically different as well.
I saw people talking about a game master on their server here. They had a screenshot too where you could see a gm next to his name. Not sure if its real.
