Pretty much the same. Up to 40 it was a decent progression, 40-50 kind of stalled a bit but a few quests gave some good XP so overall it was bearable. Now that I’m halfway to 55 the last few days have just felt like a slog despite constantly doing side quests and a few main quests.
The funny thing is that I started doing a level 54 main quest and didn’t even get to the mission market - half a mile away from it there were level 60 angry earth archers that see you from a damn mile! So now I’m stuck being unable to do any main quests because apparently the game wants me to be level 60 to… get to level 60?.. They’ve taken level gating to a whole new level here.
This game has worse levelling that i have ever saw. For me this is nonarguable reality. Mechanics may be fun, combat may be fun, pvp may perfect, crafting may be amazing. But levelling is worst.
Levelling is not hard i can say. Its just gravely boring. Its only grind. Doing same thing again and again and again until 60. Doing same quests in same zones with same mobs. This is bad. No other word needed.
With that boredom, combat is also hard. Spawn rates are bullshit. Quests are bad designed and most of them not soloable. So you are doing same boring stuff with in so hard situations. And ita not hard because its challenging, its hard because of bad design. Because of bad spawn rates, bad aggro mechanics, bad quest designs, bad level scaling.
And then comes town projects. Town projects are just proof of how questing is bad in this game. So most of players doing just town projects for levelling. Too bad for me i just find it in level 50. And never ever did quests after that.
They gave more exp than quests, they are more fast. Believe it, you are donating 20 wyrdwood and get 6 or 7k exp while youre killing some badass ninja zombie boss with 20 other ninja zombies, and youre getting just 3k or 4k exp. Walking time to trade post and get back, total q min. Walking to ninja zombies and getting back, total 30 minutes.
I am just going to everfall town project board and then complete all. Then waiting for 15 mins, and do it again. Even that, faster than quests.
Some side quests giving 2k 3k exp still in 56 level.
Elite quests giving 2k exp while some just dialogue quests giving 6 7k exp.
Dude, real mess this is. Whoever designs quests in AGS, i want to say that, you are really bad at your job if they all your decision. If not your’s but some bullshit generator manager’s decision, then he or she is really bad at this.
Well i can say that, if you give value to your sanity, just go make town projects between two towns. And get 1 starmetal logging axe with azoth extraction. While you waiting to renewal of town projects go chop trees and you get your spent azoth back. Then sell the woods.
In 1 full day playing i can get 1 level only with questing. If i am lucky i can get 3 levels with town projects in same amount of time. And tons of woods.
This game is frustrating, but I can only assume you never played Everquest. LONG grind, hell levels due to math quirks, negative experience for dieing, including losing levels (I hit level 33 three times on the same character).
Bringing back memories. I also remember Final Fantasy XI were you’d loose EXP on death. You also couldn’t solo a mutha fuckin thing in that game after like level 10ish.
This is honestly pretty tame to get to max level as opposed to most other MMOs. Even WoW in classic took a LONG time to get to 60. That’s par for the course. That’s part of gaming. That’s how you learn what works and what doesn’t, what you like and what you don’t. It won’t change, especially since it isn’t that bad. I understand your attitude with limited play time, but that’s your problem really, and it is what is is. Good luck on your leveling!
Never played. But when i compared the years still i can say this is the worst.
I have played ultima online. It has no levelling but skills. And it was a grind like a hell. Yet games like ultima and everquest was one of its kind and the first. So cant compare them with the game released 2021.
I’ve had the opinion in every game I’ve played that if something is a grind you are doing it wrong. It’s a game, do what is fun. I actually would like the leveling to 60 to take longer. I have out leveled many of the quests I have to do. In other games the stories are compelling enough to make fighting lower level not so bad. Here the story for the side quests particularly are not compelling at all so the fights need to be.
I want to make a garden can you go find me a hoe. Thanks for the hoe but I really need a spade spade to break the hard ground go back to where you just were and get it oh thanks for the spade but turns out I forgot I don’t have any seeds go where you just were but about a kilometer farther and find some carrot seeds, gee thanks for the carrot seeds but I need a special fertilizer to make them grow and some pirate has that in his pocket. Go get that for me you know the way. Then you get there and the pirate says “hi did you bring friends” right before he kills you. So you wait for five levels or get a few friends kill the pirate and the gardener says thanks you should come eat some carrots in the fall here have a pair of boots you don’t need.
Then the next guy says hey I can’t find my favorite hat…
As you level above these quests the only good fight is the end fight that will smote you quickly if you are not several levels higher or have friends. That is how it is in my case anyway.
Went off on a tangent there. Since the stories are lacking it would be nice if leveling happened at a pace where you had decent fights through the entire quest line. I skipped some lower level quests so I could do quests at my level. I’ll eventually go back and do the others.
I don’t want this game to feel like a grind so I play this for a while then go to another game. I’m hoping once I start participating in more group and PvP stuff that will change. Leveling to 60 though to me seems really fast. I did just het 41 though and that is where others say it slowed down so maybe this whole rant was for naught.
Also worth pointing out that there is barely a grind in this game. Even the crafting, which should be waaaay harder to grind than it is, boosts your actual level. Sometimes I get involved with trying to boost a craft to make some gear for myself and you boost through a few levels as a result.
Yes, they definitely need to change up some things and add more variety to the quest. I think they attempted that with the town board, but the faction missions are literally those three.
And you forgot the one to go kill animals and skin them for their hide/claw/teeth.
Honestly, it’s really that way from 1-60, unless you do all of the starter zone fully first, then cutlass, then continue your main story in Brightwood. This method takes longer at lower levels, but speeds up the late game quite a bit because you are overleveled.
But, in reality, they need to add a ton more quests with much more variety. I think that would smooth the leveling out quite a bit more.
I respectfully disagree about the pace of leveling. I honestly feel that it’s too fast. I spend a lot of time crafting and doing town boards and wish the leveling would slow down so I don’t keep outleveling each zone.
This game was not designed for people to play 20 hrs a day. Just because some of could and got 60 in the first 5 days of release doesn’t mean they should make it easier to level. If it was easier to level we would have still beaten you to 60 by over a month…just a hunch. Maybe find a game that’s more casual (not an MMO).
