I’ve had the opinion in every game I’ve played that if something is a grind you are doing it wrong. It’s a game, do what is fun. I actually would like the leveling to 60 to take longer. I have out leveled many of the quests I have to do. In other games the stories are compelling enough to make fighting lower level not so bad. Here the story for the side quests particularly are not compelling at all so the fights need to be.
I want to make a garden can you go find me a hoe. Thanks for the hoe but I really need a spade spade to break the hard ground go back to where you just were and get it oh thanks for the spade but turns out I forgot I don’t have any seeds go where you just were but about a kilometer farther and find some carrot seeds, gee thanks for the carrot seeds but I need a special fertilizer to make them grow and some pirate has that in his pocket. Go get that for me you know the way. Then you get there and the pirate says “hi did you bring friends” right before he kills you. So you wait for five levels or get a few friends kill the pirate and the gardener says thanks you should come eat some carrots in the fall here have a pair of boots you don’t need.
Then the next guy says hey I can’t find my favorite hat…
As you level above these quests the only good fight is the end fight that will smote you quickly if you are not several levels higher or have friends. That is how it is in my case anyway.
Went off on a tangent there. Since the stories are lacking it would be nice if leveling happened at a pace where you had decent fights through the entire quest line. I skipped some lower level quests so I could do quests at my level. I’ll eventually go back and do the others.
I don’t want this game to feel like a grind so I play this for a while then go to another game. I’m hoping once I start participating in more group and PvP stuff that will change. Leveling to 60 though to me seems really fast. I did just het 41 though and that is where others say it slowed down so maybe this whole rant was for naught.
Also worth pointing out that there is barely a grind in this game. Even the crafting, which should be waaaay harder to grind than it is, boosts your actual level. Sometimes I get involved with trying to boost a craft to make some gear for myself and you boost through a few levels as a result.
Yes, they definitely need to change up some things and add more variety to the quest. I think they attempted that with the town board, but the faction missions are literally those three.
And you forgot the one to go kill animals and skin them for their hide/claw/teeth.
Honestly, it’s really that way from 1-60, unless you do all of the starter zone fully first, then cutlass, then continue your main story in Brightwood. This method takes longer at lower levels, but speeds up the late game quite a bit because you are overleveled.
But, in reality, they need to add a ton more quests with much more variety. I think that would smooth the leveling out quite a bit more.
I respectfully disagree about the pace of leveling. I honestly feel that it’s too fast. I spend a lot of time crafting and doing town boards and wish the leveling would slow down so I don’t keep outleveling each zone.
This game was not designed for people to play 20 hrs a day. Just because some of could and got 60 in the first 5 days of release doesn’t mean they should make it easier to level. If it was easier to level we would have still beaten you to 60 by over a month…just a hunch. Maybe find a game that’s more casual (not an MMO).
I ranted about this same thing a bit below about the same time as you but I used a lot more words. I think what would help on these is after you finish step one some NPC meets you and says hey boss just said give me your report and while you do step two I will return your report. I’ll be back soon with farther directions.
Don’t need to do it every step along the way because I do see why they want us running around the zone some. Back and forth several times gets monotonous quick.
