Its time to talk about free DLC.(Will you pay for the first expansion?)

I’d like to see… me win the lottery. But that’s not going to happen either.

Forthe good of the game they need to charge for the expansion, and if… i mean IF the expansion is quality and relatively bug free, I’d be happy to pay for it.

But I would rather they do it right snd not rush a buggy expansion.

If AGS is truly putting $500 million/year into its games division still . . . you had better hope that people are buying tons of skins, AND the expansion is NOT free, or I can’t see this game continuing to be supported.

I guess they will dramatically staff down now that it’s live – and maybe they already have, and maybe the number is less than $500 million now with LOTR being cancelled. And also that number is split now between support for Lost Ark launch and New World.

But anyway, my point is that the game has to make money, and it is not now making money and likely won’t until they staff down some, so hoping for a free expansion is like hoping the game shuts down. This assumes that the conspiracy theories that NW is just a test for Lumberyard are false, because if they are TRUE, the game won’t have the normal MMO lifecycle anyway. . .

I’m going to guess that if an expansion drops, it will be at least a year after launch. A lot can happen in that time. Right now, I feel like I wouldn’t pay for an expansion. But, that’s because I still feel screwed with my time and money. (Again, before anyone responds, the $40 isn’t the issue and I’m not going to respond to off topic posts in relation to whether or not I or anyone should get one.)

Anywayyyyyy, things can change in this time frame, and something may happen to make me want to play again. I just watched a youtube video about the winter event, and I thought…wow, that looks really cool. I wish I wanted to play it, but I know that if I log in, I’ll just get annoyed - even though the event looks really fun. But, it wouldn’t be fun or cool for me because I’ll just have to deal with all of the other bugs and design that breaks the game for me. That sucks. I still want to play this game even after not playing for a month. This game has so much potential, which is why so many of us complain. We know there’s some really cool stuff here, but there’s all of this other really shitty stuff that we have to put up with to experience the cool stuff, and that really and truly sucks.

I expect I may see many videos with some really cool stuff that might be available to see and do that’s going to make me want to play an expansion. But, there is absolutely no way I’m ever going to give AGS any more of my money unless they “make good,” with refunds or in game coin, AND the game works, AND they stop making stupid design decisions. Is that going to happen? Most likely not. So, that’s probably going to mean, I won’t be paying for any expansion.

But, again, never say never.

I kept hearing about this Brimstone Sands area that is super awesome but the current foundation of the game really needs so many more fixes before adding even more content on top of it.

The game is being improved at least and i am willing to keep playing it even at the casual level if the real life might not allow for more.

Before discussing a new DLC or whatever, can we get fixes for the current version of the game instead?
Sounds like a better use of resources.

I really hope they don’t plan to introduce any kind of paid content, dlc expansion or monthly payment.
The game and playerbase is thin enough already, adding an expansion would divide the playerbase even further, that would be a horrible decision imo.

they should have made monthly payment from the beginning
not that many players at the beginning → no 20h queues, no server meges needed now, montly incoming to keep the game running

I do not expect free expansions in NW. This is always like that in B2P.

Free expansions usually comes in F2P games , because their business model is getting all the money from shady p2win products being hidden behind ‘all content being available for free’.

just to answer the topic question:

definitely no

I’m not quite willing to spend more money on NW but time will tell. I’m hopeful the base game improves in the coming months.

lol stop being poor

I would only pay for an expansion if the content was good.

Good as in variety and story.

  • Not 100 more quests of kill/loot go point a to point b

I would only consider paying for expansion if the game was fun to play.

Fun to me is:

  • Player input is responsive

  • Player skills are fun, consistent, and reliable

  • All weapon perks are useful, make sense, not useless and unused.

  • Skill based mobs and PVP interaction.

I wouldn’t even think of an expansion until the bugs get fixed. I still get bugs like: On the auction house, I have the check-box “can equip” on, and it shows me stuff I can’t wear. Yesterday my Bezerker buff greyed out for no reason and I could not use it. Quit to desktop didn’t fix it, but reloading from windows did. Stuff like this should not be happening still. An expansion is out of the question right now.

I am looking forward to expansions.

I also hope we get battle passes to have things to level after max level.

While I would pay, I think the first should be free as a marketing gimmick. NW lost a ton of players. Doing a thoughtful, engaging expac 1 without a cost may bring people back.

DLC’s should never be free because that affects the quality. If they know player’s will have to pay for it, they can assign more people to work on it.

lawl these devs arent getting another dime out of me

gross, they add this im out

lol i dont think this game will make it to a DLC

Yea, I doubt I’ll spend any more money on this game at its current state. For a $40 game, I’m getting my money’s worth.

If an expansion or DLC gets released, the only way I’ll pay for it is if at least 75% of the problems we have now are already fixed.

If the expansion or DLC cost me money and is needed for me to continue progression while outstanding issues are still present. Then I’ll just not play anymore.
