Jump Strafe Silent Nerf

On live, as of 5/21/2022, you’re able to change your jump direction in the air by pressing the opposite directional key and swapping weapons (something very easy to do); in the PTR, however, this has been removed, and there is no note of this in the patch notes.

Until a better name surfaces, let’s classify the technique as “Jump Strafing”.

Removing movement techniques inadvertently lowers the skill ceiling in favor of Mage weapons (since their abilities are already easy to land) while preserving the inept and flavorless nature of the combat system.

This change, along with the past removal of jump shooting with the bow, inadvertently contradicts recent additions such as basic attack canceling, whose application is not dissimilar to Jump Strafing in that they rescind the animation lock and nimbly elude opponents. There’s no morally relevant difference.

All I have to say is look at Apex Legends and the backlash they received when they threatened to remove a similar movement technique called “Tap Strafing”.

Honestly, I won’t have fun if this patch goes through. My mechanical superiority should be admired by those lucky enough to bear witness, and frustrating to those on the other end; regardless, I can’t hit while in the animation. Because you can still get hit, dodging something feels rewarding because it’s flashy. Please don’t remove jump strafing.

I didn’t even know this existed until these threads were made to be honest. I am probably not even skilled enough to learn how to take advantage of this but I think the mechanic should remain for those that are skilled enough to do it.

It looks dumb and shouldn’t be in a melee combat mmo, in my opinion. We don’t need apex legend movement in new world.

The game isn’t exclusively melee combat, and melee usually don’t have an issue when a ranged player Jump Strafes because they have tracking on their basic attacks.

Strafing in general seems to not be utilized much in NW’s pvp. Mostly because many don’t actually apply it or practice it and more commonly don’t think about it because the zerg meta is heavily padded. More than likely hope for the best & prepare for the worst.

Nah, I see strafing utilized in PVP; however, the movement speed when strafing is so slow that it’s useless and insignificant.

I don’t know if the zerg meta is an issue in PVP, because the game’s selling point was 50v50. Zerging should be expected, and it’s important they fine tune all weapons to have a chance at performing well.

Bow, for example, was and still is going to be picked less for war instead of other ranged weapons (Fire Staff, Ice Gauntlet) whose abilities are easy to hit and don’t render them immobile during their cast like Rain of Arrows. Also, all of bows skills require a direct landing to pump damage which makes them inconsistent.

Depends on server. Same as some servers yap all day about muskets, others about BB’s, IG’s, GA’s and so on n typically dismiss the ability to strafe.

If people actually practiced strafing half as much as post nerf weapon posts, I wouldn’t be saying there’s a lack of utilization.

The zerg meta is a crutch not an issue. What I meant is because many run in a SC zerg like mindset, the instinct to strafe which is a more second nature tactic isn’t used as often. If it were, there would be far more adrenaline in War/Opr/OW. Zerging isn’t punished which is why it’s popular.

Bow I use as an escape / support tool when the situation calls for it. Based on whatever the majority of unit type is present in the match/encounter

This is exactly the problem with animation canceling type stuff. Like, can we just play with the mechanics that are intentionally part of the game instead of having to figure out which unexpected combination of buttons will allow us to do some weird movement? Stuff like this doesn’t “raise the skill ceiling” but rather gives an advantage to people who are obsessed with finding exploits.

Bruh, u remember animation canceling on the end of weapon swap/sheet?

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE

Animation cancelling was implemented in the game by the devs. You can cancel melee basic attacks and some skills.

When new mechanics are implemented/found in a game, the skill ceiling raises because there’s new skills + knowledge to master to maximize your potential. People who’ve mastered the skills, have an advantage.

Look at any activity: there are skills that the very best have honed that amateurs have not.

Also, given the simplicity of Jump Strafing, I doubt people were button mashing until they found some string of buttons that consistently performed an unintended mechanic. I’m inclined to believe this was an accidental discovery, but that doesn’t matter.

My position is in favor of keeping/implementing mechanics because they increase the skill ceiling, thus largening the possibilities in-game and making the game funner.

Try it yourself; I explained how it’s done. It’s flashy, but not game breaking because you cannot attack while doing it and you can be attacked. It’s another tool in the arsenal.

This looks so unnatural and stupid ingame that im glad is going away. Was fun to bait people jumping off walls with this but not gonna miss it. There is better ways to make skill ceiling.

Well im not suprised they removed it. As you mentin they make super hard jump shoting before. Thing is bow is only weapon that could use this technics. And it was ok since it was very hard to hit with bow. But they make it super easy now, so its good time to say good bye this movment “technics”. Im sry but it would be to much. Its already imposible for other builds to ever catch bow/rapier. Fact is that both musket and fs makes you a target for enemy when you are shooting. Bow had this window super narrow due to this technics.

You keep saying its super easy to hit with bow now but I still see bow pros missing shots all the time. Yes, its definitely easier than live (before these unintended changes happened on the PTR) but its not like people like you are trying to portray where you just click button and its an automatic hit. On live, arrows can literally miss going between a torso and an arm. Thats far too hard for the average player.

Well we will see live with <50 ping. PTR most ppl are 130-150.

Yeah well lucky for those <50 ping. Im east and run on a west coast server. I been playing 110-120 since launch. Personal ping isn’t the only thing that affects you. Other peoples ping can also affect you. We shall also see when on live any real pvp player runs full resilient and probably has thrust protection as well. People that dont… yeah they will feel it, but that’s not a bow problem. Thats a they run crap gear problem.

Fire staff / IG / VG has been owning arenas btw. I been watching streams of that all week. So your prediction of everyone is going to run bow is likely wrong as I stated it would be day one.
