I had a conversation the other day with some friends on Discord about possible expansion content, and I’m curious about your perspective too. Outside of standard bug fixes and some QoL changes below, what type of story or content would you like to see in New World’s first expansion? If you left NW and are waiting to come back, what would bring you back?
Note - I opted NOT to include the ongoing war rostering/company change issues on the QoL list because I believe AGS is actively trying to solve this problem.
QoL Updates - Ideally Before Content Patch/Expansion
More transparent and open communication with the player base
Wardrobe / Gear loadouts / skin dyes
Storage filters like the new trade post filter
Gear inspection under social menu
Transmog system
Player customization / Barber
Customizable Crosshairs
Detailed player stats page (show us Luck!)
Company Storage
Company Ledger
Remove the Expertise system entirely; however, presuming expertise stays, it should be displayed on the weapon skills page.
Fix/adjust influence & tax system for territories
Remove time gates wherever possible (mutations)
Add simple mounts / other means of transportation (ships, horses, etc.)
New servers per region that do not allow transfers in preparation for the Brimstone Sands content release
Improve Corruption Portals - furniture recipes, trophy mats, etc. -Geekboy09
Less RNG for the current crafting system
New and Expanded Storyline and Worldbuilding
This is the section I’m most interested in hearing about your thoughts. Where would you like to see New World go? What types of content would you like to see added? How do we move to the next chapter in New World?
Expand for more details
“Journey to the Center of the Earth” or “Lost World” - only accessible via air or hidden cave passages. Could use the Frozen Passage or the Eridanus Caverns as a storyline and transition to the next environment.
Land of the Ancients, Protectors, etc.
Some sort of Azoth explosions / Meteor showers that open cave systems
Suggestion: Use an in-game event or expedition to facilitate moving to the expansion as the “how” we get there.
Whatever the storyline is and how we get there, the expansion would introduce new content and expand on existing content. Examples include the following:

Miro Board
If you made it this far, bravo!
If you are interested in seeing this in a more visual way, I created a Miro board to track these ideas about expansion content. You can view the Miro board here.
Lot of great ideas here. I’d like to see what the developers are thinking about including in an expansion. I’d expect the base game to add some of this over time as well, like continuing to add new weapons.
On weapons, Daggers should have some stealth skills in one of the skill trees. And should be dual wielding.
And if they add dual wielding, I’d like to see a Dual Wield sword skill tree added. Different from Sword and Shield.
Under PVE, you don’t list new areas (unless it is listed somewhere else and I missed it). But new areas are needed, which comes with new NPCs, quests, etc. I know at least one new area is coming in the fall. But Expansion could bring more.
Last, what about ships, horses, or other means of transportation?
New areas would be part of the World Building / Environment / Storyline … 100% agree it should be included but I made an assumption this would be the case for an expansion so I didn’t include it here.
Added the stealth skills as a note on the daggers and the dual wield swords, I like it.
Good callout about transportation. Mounts have been long requested, I’ll look at adding those as content pieces.
With the whole “Alternate History” theme of the game, they can do almost anything within reason. I personally would love to see them do a whole “Journey to the Center of the Earth” or “Lost World” where you have biomes underground or on an isolated plateau, lands that time forgot type places.
I could totally see things like Dinosaurs and Wooly Mammoths. Imagine a Ancient Guardian Skeletal T-Rex boss fight, or Angry Earth Raptors roaming and attacking in packs, Corrupted Mammoth anyone? This would make the little kid in me SOOOOO happy!
Some great ideas, but with no offense intended it kinda sounds like you want to morph New World into a new version of WoW. Many of the suggestions are established already in WoW. Capture the flag (WSG in WoW), enchanting, archeology…
Even raptors and yeti’s and world bosses all elements of WoW. Raids? Sure…another WoW staple. Daily quests? Yep. Even quest sharing. Your expansion ideas are a laundry list of things already staples or established content in WoW.
A for effort, but sadly no real “new” ideas here. Just reskins of WoW content.
Appreciate the feedback, though I cannot take credit for most of the content, just the organization. I agree about the connections to wow (and frankly, this could apply to other games too), but the post wasn’t so much “check our work” as it was “what do you think” and “what would you like to see in NW” to spur discussion.
Thoughts about an expansion? I think it’s a great idea. Not shooting down your suggestion, but I just kind of want to keep New World, New World and not a new or different version of WoW.
But to be honest this game needs a lot of work to fix the current content (or lack thereof) before we can even entertain the though of an expansion. Putting in QoL improvements, fixing balance issues, territory control issues and company issues to me seem far more important than an expansion. Fix what is broken first and then once things are polished then move on to an expansion.
Just my thoughts, and I applaud you for your efforts, but I think it is far too early in the game’s life to think about expansion yet.
Congrats on this post, it’s very well thought.
I hope we’ll know more soon about what’s coming.
at least the new zone could be a hint on the direction they’re going.
Is not that couldn’t implement, is just they don`t want to. It’s very clear that they have a dull vision of what they want and nothing else matters. It’s been like this for almost an year, topic after topic, just browse this forums and you will notice the pattern. A good idea appears, it’s praised by the community, a CM comes with a pat in the head and say “good job, good ideas” and it’s finally ignored.
We need to see a new biome, and as I understand it, the expansion will be a desert type deal since it is rumored to be called Brimstone Sands.
-I would love to see an Canada/Alaska type biome with huge mountains, lots of forest, rivers and beautiful lakes.
-I would also like to see a city on water, and why not partly under it? This could perhaps introduce ships and/or swimming. It would also give a whole new set of creatures.
-I wish they would make music something you are free to play like in LOTRO. And that they could add puzzles and quests in the expansion which requires you to play certain melodies manually to open doors/locks and what not.
-More large scale PvE events where huge monsters (or similar) invade Aeternum, and everyone have to help fight them or bad things will happen. Like negative status effects for a few days.
-Player cities, so that the players are responsible for expanding our reach into the new territories. Not that it simply adds more cities. We the player’s should have to work in order to build new settlements.
Hey @Takodan thanks for the well thought it ideas here. I especially like the water city idea, because as you said, it would be a great way to introduce new mob types.
