If they’ve already drastically changed the XP-wise time investment needed, they need to keep going. Leveling felt okay when I had rested XP. Outside of that, it is horrible.
Mr. “MMO veteran”, maybe do you want the game that plays itself? or some lvl boost for 40$, how about that?
It took me less time to hit level 60 when the game first launched. Complete town board quests. Warp between the towns and complete them as often as you can (only do the easy ones. You can buy the mats off the AH/TP, skip the expensive purchase tasks and only do the cheap ones to buy and instant complete).
On the PTR yesterday I started a new toon and hit level 20+ in a matter of 2-3 hours of playing and haven’t even done a town board mission yet. Lots of running around and checking out the new scenery. Faction missions are not good levelling xp early on. Stick to MSQ and town boards and some of the npc side quests. Skip the faction ones as they’ll slow you down tremendously.
If you flag for pvp you’ll level faster. When you level up map zones are you selecting character XP gains or territory gains? If you select things like crafting/tax reductions it will be a slower experience.
Looks like u never played mmo before.
And play PTR, they working on it so hard. OR play something else with autoBattler
In a typical mmo you do quests, Main and Side quests to get xp. In new World Side quests are a trap. More running less XP. Instead you do townboards…
I am also a 20+ year MMO vet and I can’t fathom how you think NW’s leveling is painful compared to MMO’s of the past that were truly punishing. I’ve played MMO’s where it took me a year to just reach max level then another year or longer just to be competitive in PvP.
In NW you can reach 60 in a matter of days between MSQ, Faction quests and town boards. It’s extremely easy because AGS has to cater to modern gamers.
The new stating experience feedback will be used to revamping the rest of the leveling experience, Nw questing is indeed terrible with q lot of fetch quest and pointless walking.
Hopefully is is being fixed and soon the entire experience will be something pleasant to do
I am currently playing the PTR.
It has taken me 29 hours to get to lvl 42.
At lvl 42 many quests give you nearly 10% of that lvls experience requirement.
There are people on the PTR who are already approaching lvl 60 after just 4 days and thats with very limited Expedition access (no Azoth staff )
I totally disagree about the leveling in this game. It is pretty easy, an MMO should actually take you many months to get to max lvl.
My MMO days go back to UO so that makes me a 25 year MMO vet.
I play an online game where exp requirements double at each lvl.
My next lvl will take approx 1800 hours of game time.
In older games, leveling was the gameplay in itself. And the difference between a max level and a close to max level player wasn’t so huge. You could easily do high level content with players 1 or 2 levels below level cap.
Here in NW the 1 - 59 is a tutorial about the game. ALL content is gated behind the max level. That is why it feels so boring and slow, even when is actually quite fast. Is boring because you can’t do anything with your high level friends, can’t do OPRs or Invasions, can’t start farming your equips. You can’t even gather resources efficiently because you need to be 60 to equip the fastest tools. So while you’re leveling, instead of enjoying the process, you’ll want to end it the fastest way possible so you can actually start playing the game.
So no, NW leveling is not fast and should be improved. Because in NW the game begins at lvl 60: it’s a starting line, not the finish one.
Literally already covered this counter-argument. Next.
This is blatantly false, unfortunately, unless by “a matter of days” you literally mean 24 hours within a day such that it takes 24x3-5 days to level. Then I’d agree.
40-60 is painful, level 48 though you’re only a little ways away.
Fastest way to do it would be picking up faction quests for depths, starstone, and amrine in addition to townboards. I did originally by spamming depths and townboards, when there were orbs and it was even more painful.
It’s actually easier than it’s ever been but if leveling bothered ya, you probably would’ve disliked expertise even more.
Leveling is OK
If you think leveling to lvl 60 is too slow is because you’re pretty new to MMORPG’s
TIP: At lvl 53 go dinasty shipyard, get the quest in the docks, enter the dungeon, complete the quest > exit the dungeon > Finish the quest at the quest giver > Repeat > Profit
Idk what u do wrong mate…
but on Ptr this is allready way easier.
Just watch
Level 47, that was with crafting and farming all these Skills up… so basically way longer then it could be.
Think it took me 38 Hours tho
I have 20+ years of MMOs. I started MMOs with Ragnarok Online in 2002. Ragnarok Online, which was an asian MMO with heavy, HEAVY grinding, had a better leveling experience than NW currently does imo.
Really. there are peeps having issue leveling?! lol
In NW is way to ez to lvl up at lvl60, compared to other games. Game is supposed to be grindy but is not so bad, i remember i got to lvl60 only by playing the game around in max 2 weeks at launch. This days seen a streamer getting to lvl 30 only by fishing during the double xp weekend xD So if you have issues leveling up you doing it “wrong”. The game should not be a race to the highest level asap & latest BiS gear…
Yeah, the Lord of the Rings had lvl 80 and also a better leveling experience. But I don’t think the leveling here in NW is hard…
5 days /played and nearly max level. Sounds good to me. I’m very much turned off by games that send you through content at warp speed, so the leveling time in NW has been a welcome return to old school MMO progression speed.
On that note, I’m surprised that 5 days feels so painful to you given your claim of being “an MMO veteran of 20+ years”. 20 years ago was when games like EQ and DAoC were at the top of the heap, and at least for the latter, getting to max level by 7 days /played was fast for most people. (And from what I understand, EQ had a similar pace.) Even when WoW came out around that time, I don’t think you were getting to max level in less time, you just did it through questing instead of killing mobs.
EDIT: I wanted to add, you can an enormous amount of XP from crafting, so I’m not sure what issue you’re having there. I had no reason to buy anything by the time I was 50+ other than a house, so I had a bunch of gold on hand that I used to buy resources and literally craft entire levels fairly cheaply and extremely quickly.
I feel you, but I just want to say that everything you suggested is already in the works. Testing phase for 1-25 is ongoing in PTR, and the rest of the levels are currently being worked on. It’s just a matter of time now.
