Locked Server, Do I Just Sit Here?

This is a serious question. I don’t understand how I’m supposed to know when I can play if I want to play on this server. It seems ridiculous to expect someone to sit here for hours or even days waiting for the server to unlock…

Sorry but I don’t think you will get any satisfactory answer, certainly not from AGS. If you get an answer at all.

This was the situation at launch – people couldn’t get into the same servers their friends were. That caused a push for server transfers.

Before Fresh Start Servers came live I put out the warning that this might happen again but obviously no one gave a rat’s arse about it. No one cares that you can’t get on the same server to play with your friends.
This is just one of the issues with the small-player-cap server model. I understand what they are trying to do with settlement control etcetera, but it is certainly a drawback.

ESO does it better – Cyrodiil “settlement control” (control of towns and forts) is in a separate space that the main basically-PvE server can go to and do their PvP. And they replicate Cyrodiil servers to have instances in case that gets full. And there’s no real cap on the megaserver of where the bulk of gameplay happens.

I have been lurking on the server list to see if Artemis opens up but no luck yet. The server isnt even full, no queues and still locked. Quality game right here

All you can do is keep an eye on the status here.

No shit  imagine camping on the website at 10 pm saturday evening, hell nah

but thn they would be complaining about the que times and how they cant play with their friends anyway lol, they need to increase server capacity

Perhaps, but if its queues and then free transfers only within fresh start servers…then suddenly its like oh this kinda works

There are already performance issue complaints, plus it would increase materials competition.
And there’s no guarantee new capacity won’t be bots.
Even if it could be properly increased, eventually you’ll have PvP Companies complaining they can’t get a turn at owning Settlements – not enough settlements, too many Companies, can’t budge existing Companies, blah blah blah.

The proper response is probably to REDUCE capacity and preregister for access.
Reducing capacity means each server can only support so much RMT. The more that try to get in, the less real customers there are and therefore less income.
Preregistration means Companies or friend groups who are organized can know if all their members can get in or if they need to shop for another server. And AGS can jigsaw these prereg groups around so that everyone can be with their friends – with the restriction that preregistered groups like this cannot transfer out.

is where you lost me :joy:

Don’t care.
Increasing capacity has already caused problems. Without bothering to look at the situation you just want to do more about what is not working.
People like you crying for bad changes are what ruins games.

im fuckin crying rn :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy:

I don’t think it’s the developers’ responsibility to plan for entire companies that want to jump server to server because they are grumpy about their relative success in war, the trading post, or other aspects of that world which is created by the players in that world.

Responsibility for failure to do research and find a safe place to move is fully on the company that jumped without planning ahead.

Imagine them taking the weekend off during basically the biggest event since launch while
people are dealing with things like this.

So scummy.

Yeah how dare people have time with their familes. Heckin rude.

I dont see why they cant just do queues and free transfers within fresh start servers? What would be the issue?

Seems like a more reasonable solution than locking character creation and screwing guilds/friend groups out of enjoying the game they paid for together

forsure open the fss servers to transfer between eachother. my fss is alot lower pop than the others because they locked character creation and everyone moved to a diff server

Unfortunately until they start to use phasing on their servers, which the game engine does support this will be an ongoing issues as they limit the servers to 2500 players, which is around the capacity of a single phase in the engine.

StarCitizen uses the same engine and they switched to 64bit with a mega server using phasing technology and it ran better, but even if you compare that to other games from 5-10 years+ who use phasing, it’s mind blowing how this wasn’t implemented from the start.

Done some good work with Brimstone and finally listening to the community over Orbs & Azoth, crazy they were so adamant for so long about those two things… what a waste of development time that was xD
