Locking servers kills the game

I wouldn’t pay for a transfer and if they did offer this service and revoke the free tokens that were issued that’s a real slap in the face to player.

What they need to do is merge these servers to clean up some of the servers that have barely anyone on it 100 and less on peak times. Then increase the max capacity per server.

Man these are awesome ideas. This is my bump hoping a developer sees this text and actually digests it!!! Thank you for typing out some great ideas

Nice ideas! But I don’t agree to remove the free transfer tokens, they will be good for returning players that are stuck on a dead server, and those players should be able to freely move to a “good” server as the current active players have had the chance to do.

Also to implement a cooldown when you have transfered is also questionable, at least for 90 days. Maybe a week at most would be good, or like 72 hours as wow has.

What could a potential promotional incentives be you think?

It may not be relevant or important to remove already gifted free transfers. However, letting them sit indefinitely is asking for trouble. Especially if your talking about removing server locks and everyone who has an account has gotten now 2. I’ve not used either personally. We already saw the toxicity and impact the free transfers caused and AGS already said they have no plans to issue another round after what happened with the players trying to force high pop servers.

That said if they followed the other points in order:

  1. Allow paid transfer for those who don’t have access to free transfers based on criteria that follows.
  2. Turn off all mechanics that lock or keep servers locked.
  3. Offer a free transfer token ONLY to players whose server meets one of two criteria: a que occurred in the last 7 days which had a wait time greater than 100 players -or- the concurrent user count PEAK during the last 7 day period was less than a certain threshold let’s say 400 (20% of capacity). The transfer should only be free for the character affected.
  4. Implement a Cooldown on transfers.
  5. Offer incentives to transfer to low pop servers.

These would promote a healthy system of transfer that stabilizes server community and size. This process that has been happening where guilds transfer across servers repeatedly to and back needs to stop it is causing a lot more issues with community dynamic and stability than it is improving.

Absolutely not! You can not fit anymore than 2000 people in this small in game world. When they open up the new territory(s) maybe.

The world is to small for 2000 players? I will highly disagree the world is not to small.

The world is not too small but the servers can’t handle so many ppl. I can feel a huge differemt when I’m playing OPRs in the morning compared to when its full in the evenings. Would be cool with bigger servers if it was possible tho.

@Sonickat Yep those are really good points. I just want AGS to give the players more freedom and not “play gods” too much.

Sorry but I have to agree with the person your disagreeing with.

The open world in its current form is not designed to support a concurrent player capacity even 150% of the current peak on high pop servers. There are already cries constantly to address bots and players who camp nodes. That will only be worse. There are cries because OPR has a maximum concurrent maps at once and that still generates ques, that will get worse.

The way things are designed now just upping the server cap isn’t the answer. It will create more trouble than its worth.

The over fall focus needs to be fixing bugs and rebuilding interest through changes to the game and introduction of new and exciting content. Then as general player counts rise worry about increasing server concurrent activity in a non disruptive manner instead of adding more servers.

Do this concurrently with different teams so when the smoke starts and people start returning you can implement the architecture to support them.

But please don’t waste time consolidating the current playerbase and trying to figure out how to make massive servers that wil be empty months from now because all that development time was spent grouping peopel togehter instead of giving them reasons to actually play.

@Lax3N We appreciate your feedback! We’re always looking for new ways to improve New World where we can and we like where you are headed with that potential solution you have mentioned. We’ll pass your feedback to the team and hopefully it can spark up some ideas within the development team to tackle this!

@FlyNavy_1271 We have collected critical feedback from this thread and this has been moved to the team. We hope this information will allow for some great improvements in the near future.

@Sonickat Some great in-depth feedback. We love to see this!

AGS have been very draconian in how they treat the players, locking, time gating, banning.

Irony is the dupes, changes etc as well. They’ve created a divide between those who have cheated, those who used exploits, ground early.

@BRGF thank you for that. I’m hoping these locks are rescinded soon. My son is currently having fiber ran to his house and will soon have internet. He intends to play New World with me so long as he can make a character on the same server I’m on…which is currently … locked

Taking things away from players that you previously gave them almost always causes an outcry. This would certainly do that.

Agreed, it will lead to more harm than good. Instead AGS should offer promotional incentives to play on low-pop servers, like Sonickat mentioned. An example is to have cross-server OPR, arena and dungeon-finder so players can still play on those “dead servers”. Also thanks to @BRGF for listening on the feedback

Turn on paid transfers.

Remove all unused free transfer tokens.

Offer promotional incentives to players willing to transfer to a low pop server.

Unnecessary if they actually address the underlying issue. They could just not have 20 servers on NAE for 9k peak people.

Cut it to 8-10.

That solves 95% of the issue. The issue with transfers being that players want to play on high pop serves.

They can not merge dead world sets unless they drop the limit of one char per world set.
If this game some day unexpectedly comes out of beta and I install it again and find out my transfer tokens have been removed it better have sharded megaservers ready.

how to fix servers

  • lock servers for a maximum of 72hours

  • merge servers with less than 1000 peak players in the last 7 days

  • move all accounts which have been inactive for more than 30 days to a placeholder server, grant free token to choose a server on login.

  • make faction change and transfer token buyable for 100k coins or 10eur with a cooldown of 14 days

  • fix the friend list and make it available for the whole region

how to improve servers long term

  • move opr, wars, invasions and dungeons to different instanced servers. (ranked and cross realm in the future)

  • increase player cap and resources

No. Let those people keep them. Have paid transfers with a 90 day cool-down. Make a mistake that’s on you. Paid transfers should also just be for your avatar and what you wearing plus any BoP items in your inventory/storage and max 10k gold
