I appreciate your anecdotal evidence! It appears that you spend the majority of your time in instanced content. Could it be that instanced luck/loot is behaving as intended while open World loot is not? I spend 99% of my time in the open world looting chests and killing mobs in 63+ zones. I have noticed a significant decrease in loot (extending beyond expertise “bumps” from these areas - which were explicitly nerfed per patch 1.2). If this was an intended nerf to make rare loot feel more rare, or to encourage people to do dungeon content, I’m totally on board…just wish these changes would be shared with us by the game devs.
I think it’s healthy for everyone to share what has and has not worked. Thanks for sharing!
Some days I’ll get 3 legendaries in SM, some days I’ll get 0.
That’s RNG, there’s never any difference in my gear between those days.
But also 100% fact this game has a pity system, it has been said before in Dev Blogs, patches I don’t know where, but it has been said. Every time you loot a crate/bag and you don’t get a legendary drop or an expertise bump, the next bag has a higher chance of giving you one.
But yes since 1.2, Elite Chests have been made worse to compensate for the free expertise/gear you get from Gypsum. Laz/Gen have also been fixed to give guaranteed expertise bumps from the 2 bosses and higher chances from the chests in there also.
Okay so here’s where I’m confused. So I’m stoked that you’ve had such great luck. I haven’t seen a legendary from elite chests in over 10 days with near max gear luck + 3 basic trophies. I run a large stockpile run that lasts about 50 minutes every hour about 4-5 times per day. I’m very very rarely seeing trophy pieces compared to previous weeks. Call it bad luck, but I have noticed a massive drop off.
It is a bit frustrating to see people discredit luck speculation. There are tons of bugs so I don’t think it’s too far fetched to question the integrity of a system that works 100% behind the scenes. Let the players see it, revisit luck code, reassure us of it working. Just communicate with us.
I honestly don’t believe you have gone 10 days of looting elite chests and not seen a legendary.
Are you 590 every slot?
Which elite chests are you getting? And even if you answer my questions correctly, I simply still don’t believe you sorry lol. That is just so opposite to what happens for me. 10 days worth of elite chests in only mines/myrkgard would be in the range of 10-30 legendary BOE drops for me.
But you can’t judge anything off of trophies. If you manage to find a trophy upgrade you got lucky. It’s like a 1/1000 drop and with full luck it would change to 1/900 or not even that much of a difference.
Agree it’s a shame. Especially when it’s not with any kind of facts or proof. It’d be one thing if AGS definitively said, “Hey we took a look at loot over -insert huge number of players/events-, and it’s perfect”.
Ironically I’ve only seen AGS say the opposite. They’ve constantly had broken loot tables and luck values. Multiple pieces of crafting gear weren’t dropping properly. They tried to tune down chest quality and completely broke Elite Chests, which took them weeks to fix. They had to fix gathering luck twice for different issues.
We’ve seen nothing to give confidence in luck. So I’m not sure why it’s strange to question.
Exactly. That is my story which is why I’ve come to the forums. Our stories shouldn’t be this drastically different. What gain do I get coming to post nonsense? I love this game man. I just want to have the experience some others are having. I want to figure out what’s going on.
Edit: 590 literally every slot aside from jewelry. Mines/myrk/reek elite chests everyday and now adding the new zones into the mix.
Yeah I don’t know what to tell you.
I do an elite chest run with the company every night. Somewhere between 30-50 people will come.
Almost nobody who is 590 every slot (but Jewelry ofc) goes the entire run without a legendary. Most will get more then 1, 2 days without a Legendary nah not possible.
Maybe you have been shadowbanned, like some games do, and instead of being put in a banned players lobby, you are given a shit experience in the game.
Couldn’t that exactly be pointing to a bug? That sets of players are having vastly different experiences?
Certain gathering materials had a luck ‘sweet spot’. It’s not so hard to believe there may be factors contributing to a non-gathering luck 'sweet spot.
I will literally quote the 1.1 patch notes here
The short version is we had a couple of probabilities that were multiplying each other resulting in a near-zero chance of some already-rare items dropping. This combined with an issue that could make it next to impossible for an item to drop if your luck values were too high (not exactly how luck should work!), which translated into a “luck sweet spot” that you had to be in to even have a chance (that near-zero chance) at getting a drop.
They literally coined the phrase “luck sweet spot” in patch notes.
Nope imo, every single person coming onto the forums saying Luck doesn’t work, is saying so to drop the prices of luck trophies.
Just like when the Siren Brute was farmed everyday for easy watermark back in the first few weeks people where spamming on the forums/steam threads “I got banned for farming the brute” when reality is not a single person did as entire servers where farming it. They wanted less people at the spawn so less hits, and more likely better loot.
No offense. But you are random people on the forums.
Out of the 30-50 people I can somewhat trust, they all have a different experience then this.
Yeah for that to happen there are only 2 reasons I can accept as it is the complete opposite of the reality of the game I play and other people I can ask ingame of their experiences.
You have been shadowbanned or punished and are getting bad loot because of that,
You are trying to drop trophy prices.
Nothing else makes sense to me because none of this happens to me or any other person I could ask ingame.
2 Is the most realistic scenario and isn’t in any way a wild assumption. People do stuff like that all the time.
Luck gear should be more… rewarding. You should feel the difference between doing chest run with it… and without it… Right now… It’s not really the case. When we do runs with my guild, some do with luck gear… some without… and it the end… it’s more or less the same results.
After all, luck give you something like 4 or 5 k on a 100.000 dice roll… so it’s not much and barely noticeable.
I think I’d just like to close it up asking you and other people who believe there is not a single error in the luck calculations to just keep to yourself and let the devs tell us we’re stupid. And hey, if they find something wrong, maybe it will benefit you too.
I mean I’m just doom scrolling at this point. So not sure where I fit that narrative. Personally the worse things are the more crazy stories I get to share with the wife who is an FFXIV junky.
I’ve played MMO’s since the late 90’s. Usually at the cutting edge of content. In my experience nothing is a bug until someone gives definitive proof in a way that developers cannot ignore. (Then suddenly it’s “why weren’t proper channels used to report this issue.”)
My favorite was back in Vanguard Saga of Heroes. I was the first max Psionicist, and with my small group we found a combination of issues that could cause a certain spell to have uncapped damage. (TL;DR it was a spell that amped damage each time you used it, but also hurt you -which also amped-. We found two ways to combine to negate the damage feedback loop.)
The Psionicist community manager told me i was crazy even when I provided the method to replicate to them (There were ‘class leaders’ for each class on the community forums) It didn’t get fixed until I posted a top single damage hit of 6 million damage (the next highest were like 10,000), and screenshots of placeholder loot off a boss they made unkillable by giving it 1 million regen a second. For background Vanguard Sage of Heroes tracked and had leader boards for tons of statistics. So it was hard to ignore at that point.
You can believe whatever you want. No one can stop you. It doesn’t mean there we aren’t going to eventually find some insanely strange issues with loot. I assume most of your friends are the same faction? It’s fully possible we find in two months that whomever owns Weaver’s Fen is getting bonus luck in Shattered Mountain. Or something strange like that.
Nah. When I see a post of everybody complaining luck doesn’t work. I like to come in and let everybody know, that I do indeed roll in full luck and have like 9 Legendary named items from dungeons, get on average 2-3 Legendary BOES from Elite runs everyday, some days I will get none (THOSE ARE THE BEST DAYS ILL GET MORE NON RNG STATS LEGENDARIES IN DUNGEONS).
And this is the same for everyone else I talk to or play with ingame.
So to your average player on the fence thinking if luck is good/bad, take it from someone who is 590 every slot. 570+ all jewlery, that I have had no problems with my almost max level luck neither looting or gathering luck. I get multiple legendaries every single day and have questioned luck myself at points but have definitely decided ever since upgraded to full luck it does indeed work, so many more named legendaries!
I got my stack deck from an Urn, not a chest or stockpile.
also i run full look and run morning dale run all the time ive done the run for weeks and gotten nothing. RNG Iis RNG and my RNG in game are dog shit funny thing is the only trophies ive gotten (2) have been when ui had low luck or forgot to put half my luck gear back on after a war.
Yeah, at least Elite chests still give nice WM bumps but the quality of items is trash. I keep getting 599 white items lol wtf.
Also, as some people have said on the forums already, there seems to be bugs with luck. I’ve noticed sometimes I don’t get anything, take all my gear off and re-quip it and good as new. RnG might be random but I have noticed a big change doing this.
I wonder if it’s related to bug where you need to re-equip repaired items.
