Lore: The Winter Wanderer

From what place would he have wandered into Aeternum from. A place where stars are known as Gleamite.

The byproduct of falling stars, which is a primitive way of interpreting meteors, is gleam-ite. A gleaming rock.

He comes from a wintry north, (or south)…
A place where yetti’s live… Very intelligent Yetti’s. They must have their own towns, their own civilization where their families live in houses like in the Winter Village. They must also have an economy as the yetti has a shop.

A very interesting place it would be.

could this suggest as well that Storms at Sea are not the only way ones arrive on Aeternum, this cave he entered into during a Winter storm.

Yes…
Maybe one day we could visit this place…
Most yettis in the yetti towns would be friendly, where we could visit and even buy a house. But there would be yettis (rebels) that roam the wintry wilderness that will attack you on sight. Probably they have been infected with corruption, or they just don’t want their civilization dirtied by the human infestation (as they would see it).

Edit: We could also do ā€˜Town Board’ missions for their town, much like in our settlements. (We would be able to get ā€˜standing’ in the yetti region). Our Factions could also have a presence in their towns so we can do faction quests within the yetti territory.
Our ā€œstandingā€ in the yetti region would only enrage the yetti’s in the wilds more… make them more dangerous to us.

they need to do epic cutscenes like WoW to get players hooked into the lore, i dont read notes or dialogue, I honestly have very little clue what the lore of this game is and so do most players

for me at the moment the lore of this game seems to tell of the different world mythologies amoung other things that might be known up to perhaps the 17th century. This lore though is written or found through the journal pages of the ones who came before - the quests we are sent on. Maybe this will change - as you say through epic cutscenes - which I am unfamiliar with - and wonder there is no reading in these? I do find it hard to believe though that those that would be interested in the lore would not wish to learn more of the place they washed up upon.

The reason people didn’t care much for the story is because people didn’t want to be left behind in the curve and never followed from the beginning.

The difference between seeking and reading out every note, quest text and journal entry would be 10+ hours of your time, that’s ten hours you could’ve spent farming.

It may be interesting, it may be fun, but that’s not what AGS incentivise, they incentivise hopping on the treadmill, turning up the speed, and going for as long and as fast as you can.

I feel sorry for the writing team and lore designers, it does seem it had promise.

Hello and thank you so much for your passion regarding the Winter Convergence and overall lore of New World.

The insights on how The Winter Wanderer arrived in Aeternum through a cave definitely have a lot of implications as to how things show up on Aeternum. From the darkest reaches of the sea to the highest peaks of the world, it seems Aeternum can be accessed where the veil between magic and mundane is thin.

On the subject of how we can better incentivize loreseeking and reading, we hear you and are taking your comments into account in our future quests and notes. We hear your requests for cutscenes and are eager to add new storytelling tools to our belt in creating New World content as well. We are working on new tools for better camera control and possibly staging some scenes in-game, but we can’t promise anything quite yet. We’re also working on some illustrated vignettes for some of the more impactful parts of the story.

Some of these vignettes might be added to the game sooner rather than later, and we’re very excited to see how players respond.

When I finished the Winter Wanderer quests I was left really really wanting to know more. I guess that means I enjoyed it.

It ended a bit abruptly though. I was having a nice time doing the quests and then it just ended…
