Low GPU Usage causing poor performance

  • OS : Windows® 11 64-bit
  • Processor : AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • Memory : 32 GB RAM
  • Graphics : NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 2080ti
  • SSD : Game installed on a 1TB NVME drive

I’m using between 30-80% GPU whilst playing and my FPS is, as you would expect, directly proportional to the GPU usage at that time. I often drop to 30fps, at the same time as my GPU usage dropping. I hit 100fps when my GPU usage increases… This appears fairly random.

Any ideas as to why my GPU usage is so low despite really needing it to be higher to maintain reasonable performance. As an aside, my CPU usage is at 40%.

Thanks!

I rolled back to Windows 10… Seems much better.

Interesting. I’ll try rolling back as well and see if it helps.

EDIT: Did not fix it for me. Rolled back to Win10 and still not at 100% utilization. Typically hovering around 50-75%.

What driver are you running? Rolling back also rolled back my driver to 471.41 from 472.12. Not clear on if that helped…

On 472.12. Rolling back did help my FPS some, but still have issues.

Same issue here with a RTX 2070, would go above 50% usage on windows 11, rolled back to windows 10 and now stays above 90%. Running 471.12 on both cases.

I have a RTX 3090 and its significantly worse! 30 to 40% usage at 30 some fps and no rolling back is a no go windows 11 is about to be released and New World has absolutely no excuse not be able to run on it. Thats a joke.

3080, 3900x on win11 and latest drivers. I get 25-50fps, it’s nearly unplayable.

Hey, turn terrain detail to High instead of very high! It will mostly fix the GPU bug outside of cities. Went from 30fps to 90!

Yeah, I’m running a 3090 also and it was unplayable on Win11. Downgrading to Win10 made it playable for me.

I have 100% GPU usage using windows 10. Could it have to do with win 11?

As for CPU I’m using a 5800x, but I highly doubt the 3700x is incapable of pushing the 2080TI to 100% in new world.

I’ve seen my CPU usage go above 40% with my 5800x, are you using an OSD to monitor in real-time for that referrence?

Wishing I would have not installed Windows 11 now. MSI Stealth with 2080 and it’s only hitting about 40% on the GPU and 60% on CPU with an avg of 40 FPS… Not cool

Quick update… I reverted back to Windows 10 and the GPU utilization is back up and I’m getting almost double the FPS. Thanks for sucking Microsoft.

This is completely unsurprising from Microsoft to be honest, which is why i always wait at least a year…

I also rolled back and it did not fix it for me  I’m afraid I will have to install windows 10 from 0.

windows 11 isnt as playable as win10 is in it current state specially if you have top end GPU’s … but with 1080’s and so on win11 is actual upgrade… if it works for me it should work for others (90% of the time too).

Its much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Going to give this a try. I have a 3080 and an i9-9900k and I’ll notice my FPS drop but also my GPU is running super cool. Hope this fixes this very annoying big. Thank you.
