That sounds rough but you may just need to respec tbh. I main strength dps but I’ve been switching to light armor INT with FS/IG for OPR and it just melts people. The VG is even better but get used to animation canceling while dodging if you want to stay on top. I’m assuming you’re running keen/viscous or keen/enchanted at least on your FS? I honestly can’t figure out why people are complaining about the nerf on these weapons since I didn’t play with them pre-nerf but they seem fine right now.
its ok but i think the point is that fire staff is just a little weak at the moment. provides no cc and the damage is very low tier compared to any other ranged weapon.
I have some suggestions for mages. First thing is nothing needs a nerf in mage period. Ice gauntlet is in a good place i think right now. It was to op before and it still has cc and insane damage with ice spike. Fire staff on the other hand could use a small buff. Maybe give grit to pillar of fire cast animation and just delete the flame thrower ability lmao. No going to lie but no one in this games uses flame thrower. Its a shit ability, its useless and replacing it with literally anything else would be better. I was hoping the fire staff would have a linear flame ability like a wall of flame.
Yeah but it still works. Fireball doesn’t NEED to crit. It hits MULTIPLE targets, add the “Empowering Fireball” perk to one of your armor pieces & boom Fireball does instant +32% more damage AoE. Not to mention, you can combo things like: Heavy attk → pillar of fire → dodge → heavy attack → fireball → dodge → heavy attack → repeat because cd’s are reset (Can do that entire rotation within 2.5 tics or less I believe, rough estimate. Have instant burst many unsuspecting light armor opponents this way instead of running up with IG and spooking them.)
Imagine if u had a fireball doing Crit AoE damage every 3 seconds or less LUL
Flamethrower is actually amazing in Genesis if you know how to use it properly in rotation. Funny how you hate on flamethrower but forget to mention Wind Chill.
And FT is GODLIKE on tank mage builds as is the whole of that right side flame and ice tree.
But range players are stupid and need their favourite youtuber to come up with a build for them.

Please go use flamethrower and incinerate as a melee mage. I guarantee you’ll get interrupted most of the time. In pve it might be a bit better but in pvp its terrible. The amount of times I’ve tried to get an incinerate off and been staggered stunned or knockdown is just stupid.
Please buff mages.

Fire/Ice main since the start but have branched out to other builds since the nerf. So, here are my thoughts from being on the other side now.
I feel they want Firestaff to be a pure AoE weapon but unfortunately, they can’t get the balance right due to the PvP/PvE mix. If they make it viable in PvE it will be too strong for PvP. The AoE potential in PvP at least on the scoreboard looks GREAT! However, your actual contribution to the fight is very small and neglected easily. Since all of your damage across multiple targets is easily manageable with all the methods to heal and it is very simple to avoid the damage. Since I switched to a different build and playing from the other side I ignore most Firestaff related abilities with ease and don’t look at it as a threat at all. There are some really good players who utilize this weapon in the best possible way. But that is a very limited number of players that I have encountered.
Ice Gauntlet - This is still good and believe to be close to balance. Playing from the other side I can easily say this weapon is still strong and insanely annoying to fight against. I cringe at the fact I played this build pre-nerf and can only imagine how devastating it was then. Some really good players can utilize Ice Gauntlet efficiently by themselves and be a huge threat solo and in group PvP they can sway the tide of battle.
Since branching out to other combinations I have zero interest in running FS/IG in open-world/PvE anymore. There are just way too many other combinations providing a greater amount of damage and sustainability. I can still run it in OPR but I am 100% piggy-backing off my team to allow me to get inflated numbers while not bringing much to the table other than a few situational moments with Ice Gauntlet.
Bro, I totally agree with you! 27 damage per tick from burning from a FIRE MAGE??! The man who commands the element of fire?! AGS are you serious?! 27 damage per second for a person who has 14k hp? If he has a food buff, he won’t even notice the 27 damage. Arson with a musket, which is not a weapon that deals fire damage, burning gives 250+ damage per second. Seriously?!
800-900 damage to enemies from a blow? You’re lucky! I get 600-700, with my 300 intelligence and 600 GS weapons. 10k hp and medium armor are nothing against a musket or bow. You will not be able to fight them either, because the range of your attack is much lower than their range, and you will have to run up to them in a tight way to strike.

They changed gow gearing works in pvp this patch. Faction 520 gear is no longer competitive as it was before. Upgrade the gear score of your weapons and armor. Your issue is gear related.
I have the same experience, but I went from FS to musket because of it.
Musket is harder to aim hands down. There is no forgiveness. I can shoot someone and watch the bullet go through their body and still not get a hit.
I do 900 dmg to people in hvy. I think this whole time of doing musket I have hit like 5 shots that were 4K or more. Ive been using musket exclusively for a couple months and doing OPR daily. I play a lot.
I wasnt 600 GS so I worked that into 600. It made a huge difference. I was using hvy Faction gear and now Im fully decked with medium. I use 8 onyx too. My next goal is that physical aversion and vigor to stop the bow bleeds and reduce dmg taken from ranged.
I would say the issue is gearscore and type. If you dont like musket users, get physical aversion and onyx. I tested emerald for thrust dmg reduction and that didnt do much. Its not as good as onyx against musket.
You are completely right… I’m dumping the fire staff. Having just watched that and witnessed a guy melt 3 players inc myself with a VG in OPR, and being melted, its just convinced me I’m playing with a lighter tied to a shitty stick. Long cast delays, weak dots, weak damage. I’m just going to give just give up and join the VG brigade 
Can you imagine if they did stack fire resist… Jesus, we wouldn’t do any damage at all. Maybe someone test this ? Be interesting to see what pissy little numbers float up . What a reduction from 27 would be… maybe 4 or 2 per DOT ? but remember folks that can stack up to 10 times… so you could be looking at a potential 40 damage per tick. if you can land 10 shots on a bunny hopper bowman, or be able to cast it in that 2 second window of not being pushed, pulled, stunlocked before the actual cast goes off. Does any other weapon have such large cast delays ?
You have just been hit by a giant Fireball Standing in impact ember… Phhh dude are you hot ? I feel like I’m having a hot flush or something, yeah might have to take my jumper off … oh NVM was just a fireball, yeah my health didnt move so you were probably right. A terrifying 6 seconds of being slightly warmer.
Go dip one incy little toe in someones poison cloud and that’s it, you got some terminal illness that eats half your health with a 230 odd DOT per tick. If you are lucky enough to get directly hit by it for 1/2 health - the Dot will pretty much finish you off even spamming Health potions for 20 seconds.
To match this DOT I would have to land and make them stand in, Fireball, get close enough to cast incinerate, after I managed to cast Burn Out and hit them… Even then I don’t think I cant get anywhere even close to match that amount of damage output from one ranged shot.
What makes me die is… I have a GS 502, level 10 VG and its DOTS tick for more damage than a my fire staff does.
It’s like they dont even play their own game.
use int gems, split ur damage into fire-lightning… nobody slots topaz in gear. be smart, dont complain
The faction gear is redundant now, get some weapon perks (unending thaw) and get the gs to 570+
