Mage unbalanced isn't even the word

Caster classes need an alternative form of armor. Most other MMOs let them have stuff like absorb shields or something similar.

Melee in this game has too much of a CC advantage against casters.

To be clear, you’re saying that you think expertise affects damage?

That’s what we’re seeing in game. The better your gear the less damage you take and the more damage you dish out. Now that’s a bit of conjecture since we don’t know if there is some type of exploit going that hasn’t been determined. BUT there are certain players in OPR that will hit you like a truck (I’m talking about 2-3X harder then the majority of other players).

I also see the heavy healers who are a PITA to kill but we can do it with a bit of effort. BUT a handful of them are beyond even silly hard. Maybe it’s some secret sauce that some players know about and others haven’t picked up on it. BUT across three companies (mine and two others we are friendly with) the people hitting like Mike Tyson all have HWM 600 gear and those of us that don’t have it can’t get anywhere near those numbers no matter how we tweak our stats/perks/weapons.

Ice spike is awful, we need some form of grit so we can escape or cast, we need light void armour, runic thread is almost a myth

Right now ice shower frostbite roots for 1s but it’s very difficult to follow up with a heavy freeze due to IG heavy attack having a cast time > 1s.

Either increasing the root or slightly speeding up the heavy will make IG much smoother.

Also I think increasing ice shower CD to 30s was bit too heavy handed, perhaps slightly reduce it?

Thank you !

Exactly this for a weapon that screams control it has almost none

I honestly don’t think mages are in as bad of a place as people make them out to be but something totally feels off with both the fire staff and ice gauntlet.

The void gauntlet on the other hand feels like it blows both of the other weapons out of the water in CC, utility and damage in some cases.

Let’s compare some spells

I’m going to compare the talented void orb to some fire staff spells

Void orb does 200% weapon damage when fully perked, it puts a 10% rend and 10% weapon damage per second for 8 second dot on the target.
It casts really fasts and has a huge explosion radius.
It can crit
15 second CD

VS fire ball
140% weapon damage, can’t crit, 10% weapon damage dot on the ground for 9 seconds
Can be perked for 30% more damage making it like 182% weapon damage.
Nice easy fast cast

Flame pillar
170% weapon damage, can crit, no dots, roots you when casting and has a cast time.

It’s actually insane how garbage the fire staff abilities are in the grand scheme of things, fire ball not being able to crit is just a bad move overall

@Nippys I think the only reason they arent terrible is because people go heavy physical resist, if everyone had an even split they would be

Or vg

That’s actually a fairly decent point.

But the fact that no one really goes into magic resists also sort of backs up the fact that people aren’t as scared of mages as they should be

Heck I’ve got all onyx, I’d also get full thrust resist on my gear with the new perks over magic too

However the sheer amount of VB in the game is a decent reason to not stack as much magic resist because the heavy VB gives the bonus to ele resist

Glad they don’t though, makes it easier to combo people out with a VG

What is their role for the fire staff?

Med range AoE seems to be the niche but then it gets nuked by long range and melee so it’s a tough spot.

I’d like to see them lean into the burning and DoT more. Up the damage and up the ways to do it.

Also increase the knock back of incinerate by a significant amount.

Adding some burning on enemy hit ability would be interesting… ie: each melee attack on a charged up fire mage would cause burning to the attacker. Would be fun to balance that though. Would be rough against a higher attack speed enemy but not affect a great axe or hammer user much

I haven’t bothered playing for the past few weeks after they nerfed FS into the ground. I tried swapping to DEX build and, while it was stronger than FS, it wasn’t much fun to me for my preferred playstyle. So I swapped back to mage except using Void Gauntlet mainly. VG is definitely strong, but it’s a super boring left click spam fest. I’ve played every weapon in the game at some point, and FS was the only one I stuck with. Now it’s only good for Burnout to move around faster so I can get in range to left click spam VG. Which is why I’ve had no desire to log on. It’s just not fun when the weapon you were having the most fun with is a purely DPS weapon with very little utility that does some of the worst DPS now.

Flame shield

Agreed i use it for this as well heavy void, fireball, dash, incinerate, mana pot, scream, aoe void and void blade then hope heals got you

  1. Fix ‘Watch it burn’ talent, it doesn’t work at all
  2. Make crit for fireball, it’s main fire staff ability, firestaff depends on crit, HOW IT CAN BE WITHOUT CRIT LOL?
  3. Check Spellsinger, looks like it decreases crit chance lol. Also make it 15%, not 10%.
  4. Make Clear casting work after weapon switch. Now it works only after incoming damage.
  5. Increase Clear mind, from 5% to 10%
  6. Increase Prophet of fire god, from 15% to 20%

You forgot to mention that your fire staff dot is stackable up to 10 and persistent without a cs also doesn’t have a 2 sec loading behind it and comes with plenty of mobility and aoe and instant dmg… right. You can always stick to heavy armor and use the flamethrower build to just fuck shit up in mele… just think for yourself instead of watching youtube guides.
