Literally saw this said in recruitment chat today for m10s lol.
I mean, I think itās a result of the āshardā systemā¦Like, thereās expeditions I could heal for but I donāt have the shards to level up a heal set; hell, I donāt have the shards for my main set. Every time you get a new upgrade, bam 1000ās of shards to upgrade itā¦same with tanking.
Tank in expeditions PLUS have another set of gear for OPR/PvP/Wars? Huge amounts of shards and most people donāt have that kind of time or opportunity. Frankly, most people do not āmainā healsā¦those that do are awesome but thatās a small population of people. The rest that would be willilng once in a while, donāt have the shards.
Been a main healer since launch and stuck with it through the numerous nerfs. Itās probably one of the more nerfed weapons in the game but itās also one of the hardest to balance. Someday Iām hoping they switch over to separate PVE and PVP balancing.
I still really enjoy it. I think there is room to be a dedicated healer in a more traditional role but I also enjoy going AOE build and DPSāing in between casts with a void blade. Casting oblivion to support the team. Essence rupture is solid and can really help support tank stamina recovery alongside oblivion. Then there is just scream which can apply disease and help manage vampiric enemies.
If Iām carrying regular expeditions and not doing M10s Iāll throw in a carnelian and run with 4 DPS because tanks are harder to find and just I run both roles. Kinda like a TANK/DPS/HEALER combination of chaos which is a ton of fun.
I think it can be a complicated or not so complicated class based on your skill level and just preference. Iāve never really swapped to anything else because I keep coming back and enjoy it.
Thatās incorrect again. T2 amber scales 160% of focus so you donāt stick in T5 to just split your damage. I though you knew since you are a healer
I levelled up quite nicely as a healer from 52 to 60. + you solo content like a god
You are right, healers have got tons of nerfs, but mostly got there armor choises restricted, so now you are only a good healer in light armor, so stick with it for all eternity.
Funny part isā¦now every pvp melee player complain about healers are to OP for there great mobility with rapier and light armor⦠x.O
And weaponsā¦well, as you noticed there are not many healing weapons to choise from then LS and VG.
In pvp most healers play with rapier then VG.
But yes, I always play healer in mmo game, but after the armor change, I play tank now.
I left playing a healer after the heavy armor nerf, nothing like having to do another set of 600 to 625 gs armor. (they nerfed the proposed split stat armor on PTR when folks complained they would have to redo their armor to from 600 to 625 gs to take advantage of another 5 attribute points, supposedly. But that didnāt stop the heavy or medium armor healing nerf that caused healers to have to do it).
Wonder if they nerfed DPS or tank to -30 percent in heavy, 0 in medium and +20 percent in light armor to balance the armor, if they would complain. I was told with healing, if I think about it, it made sense. Well I think it would make sense right, for DPS or Tanks, but boy people would yowl and threaten to quit!
Of course the DPS and Tank said all healers heal in light armor only⦠which defies logic i.e. if no one or very few healers were wearing other than light armor why bother even spending the time to code and do it? Even if it was mainly for 3v3 arenas (conjecture, AGS never confirmed the healing armor nerf was for 3v3 arenas, to my knowledge) I knew quite a few healers personally in medium and heavy.
DPS is so much easier to play than Healing (or tanking) anyway. Just follow the cookie cutter guide on the meta armor, weapons, perks, abilities, rotations, etc. needed for DPS. Mash Q, R, F keys in rotational sequence per the meta, click left mouse button furiously, gripe nonstop about why you canāt easily kill healers and post daily in the forums about healers being OP.
I put together some healing armor and still heal occasionally but it is not as fun as it was. I would still give it a try though. If you PVE, Expeditions got somewhat tougher to do in light versus heavy armor but it is do-able. For PVP, if you get good, you can survive and contribution for the win.
As a side note, I donāt think people realize how the PVP healing in New World is the variable that keeps PVP Fresh and exciting and will keep PVP going for a long time to come. I have played almost all MMOs, PVE and PVP and when the healers easily get smoked in PVP, the healers die off. Then it becomes a small clique of powerful players who have longevity and rare items that no one can complete with and then eventually PVP becomes no fun to play (except for the small clique who dominate) and then everyone leaves PVP. Including the powerful small clique when they have no more competition (newbies, green beans, victims to get their jolllies feeding off the decimation or cattle fodder of new PVP players) they leave calling the game lame.
I think AGS has something special going with this game and the healing is the secret ingredient that will keep PVP exciting and slightly unpredictable in Wars, OPR, 3v3, etc. If you actually nerf Healing the way the DPS want, it would kill PVP and perhaps even kill the game eventually. Sometimes I wonder if AGS is kind of keeping this way of letting healers survive in PVP as a ātrade secretā or something. (as they never really comment or respond, lol)
So I would give it a try to keep on healing! Donāt pay attention to folks in the forums that say āWow, this is the first thread I have seen that healing is underpowered, gee, all the post are about healing being OPā Those people are daily DPS type posters that should try to be a healer for like 3 months straight⦠You never see healers posting that they should be nerfed, haha. The DPS post like they play, they just "hammer or spam " the Healers OP posts daily as fast as the can, like their playstyle in New World, mash those keys, left click crazy lol. I donāt post much but I see the same names either keep posting new or keep old threads going (stealth bumping).
Also, you will notice that even though everyoneās statements are really opinion only, you will be attacked, called names, etc. just for posting or disagreeing. Hard to have a civil discussion, lol. I bet I get some choice replies on my post here.
A bit late to this thread but I couldnāt agree more with your whole post.
My main beef with the state of healers is about trying to solo with a focus build, which boils down to LS/VG of course. Yes, we have heals on-demand but the damage is absolutely F tier. And I havenāt seen any attempts to compensate for heal nerfs by upping the DPS of either weapon.
PvE soloing is its own thing and we all need to do a lot of it, especially while leveling whether we like it or not. And efficient soloing is basically just getting the job done quickly while staying alive.
Every single DPS build can do that because even though they donāt have a heal at the press of a button, any decent build worth using with DPS weapons has a ton of conditional mitigation and heals that will get the job done of keeping you alive when youāre soloing but the efficiency is 10 times that of a solo healer because they kill everything that much faster than we do.
Healers are the only spec in this game that feels like it belongs in an MMO from 20 years ago when developers had not yet clued in that, yes they also need to do enough damage to solo as efficiently as everyone else.
Pisses me off to no end ![]()
Thatās because melee players in this game like most are mouth breathing left click spam cretins with little to no game sense.
no one should balance games around the opinions of those who play the lowest skill floor class
If developers raise the healers dmg, trust me⦠there will be cries for days⦠Ppl will stop playing etc, etc. Even forced to use a weight lvl, forced to use 1 single weapon, nerfed in almost every patch they cry, imagine what happen if the LS can go ātu a tuā with another weapon. āapocaliticā. @Kolkhara and yet the ags team catter to the unga/unga crowd like they are the main source of value opinions in this game.
I was a main healer for about 2.5k hours. However Iām swapping out ⦠thinking spear+bb (seemed fun to use).
Just uber tired of the nerfs, the clunky magic & the constant crying. Unfortunate. Maybe if we ever get another heal/focus wep Iāll try that.
Why would I want to play Solo Healer?
Every Main healer heals M10, OPR/3v3, war. Wtf are you on about āSolo PvE Healerā?
Why donāt you just play a few days, get your build right instead of making a forum post that its unplayble while its still by far the best class for your team?
Being a healer is my #1 goal in MMOs. Sadly healing in New world feels clunky and messy.
If Iām not a healer I like to play tank but as Iām not yet able to run any level 60 dungeons yet as group finder only wants iLevel 580+ for normals, Iām getting no experience. I understand that there is a shortage of these rolls, so if you guys want them your going to have to help support other people in the community and build up their skill sets, else youāll be very lonely elitists with no tank/healer and the people that enjoy those rolls will be playing other games as those rolls. ![]()
A lot of the MMO community forget that they have to invest in each other as much as they do their gear. If they donāt, the game suffers and may even die and youāre left having wasted 1000s of hours in a game that you canāt get the support roles. ![]()
Thereās a reason companies (not in game companies/guilds) invest in people. It helps support the business and makes people feel a valued part of the system. ![]()

main healer here, improvise, adapt and overcome is the name of the game mate. used to heavy heal with 0 ward pieces now I have 5 piece ward for every enemy type. used to run lights embrace for the quick instant heals now run divine embrace for emergency 3 person healing. used to not have to worry so much about positioning your light attacks but now have to line up behind grp so light and heavies hit both grp members and the mobs. used to tank hits now I call out grp members to pick up mobs correctly. used to never have to switch weapons now switching to void gauntlet consistently. used to tank a couple of players in pvp if they didnāt know what they were doing and now I play the hokey pokey.
were these things a learning curve? yes
did it make me a better player? yes
is it harder to heal? definetly
do I need more reliable team members now? yes
did it remove some of the responsibility of healers? yes (now you can call out players for doing the wrong thing)
is there ever going to be balance in this game? no, not unless they seperate pve and pvp balances
the only thing all these changes has made me do in the end is force me to be far more selective with group finding or completely forgo pug grps.
Even OPās some answers irritated me, he sticked with his main concern (leveling with lifestaff) and I respect that but everyone here answered it for very very end game.
He simply wants ( If i understand correct) to play lifestaff while leveling (which was pain while i was playing). I donāt break in hatchet-lifestaff leveling on release which was broken but playing only lifestaff while leveling is really pain. Especially for farming some territory quests etc.
I played all MMOās i have played as healer and I can understand what he asks for. Playing hatchet/lifestaff or voidgauntlet/lifestaff or any weapon/lifestaff on open world pve/leveling/farming for trade skills just isnāt playing lifestaff.
I mean, and also what I think he means, Lifestaff mains shouldnāt need another weapon for farming boars, doing some territory standing runs or even for leveling. I was main lifestaff back then on release until january and I remember how i farm stuff; without a lifestaff. Thatās the reality you all are keep ignoring and all repeats the same stuff; Lifestaff can solo mutations etc. Thatās not the case. The only pve is not mutations or dungeons. Not everyone likes to play only dungeons or the way you like to play. In every mmo I played, I love farm stuff with my healing equipment which I canāt do it here.
Thatās the case for this topic and stop ignoring it.
30 or 40 expeditions seems low. I just cam back and was around 550gs. Have run around 15 gen/laz since and 1 piece is 600, two others around 585 and a smattering of 570 plus a lot of weapons are 540 to 570. Jewelry which I have Ben using gypsum on are high 540s.
Oh, I know.
The game is balanced around group PvP and magic weapons are an afterthought that the devs seem reluctant to even have in the game.
I leveled to 60 last fall before the VG and like most healers, I used LS and Ice for my group healing build. Even back then for solo, I also used the hatchet so I could actually kill things. It has always been all about the STR and DEX weapons.
Iāve done the 1-25 stuff on the PTR recently and the difference between a GS and hatchet build vs. an LS + VG is like night and day. soloing the same content.
The problem at launch before they started nerfing was always the STR builds with an LS secondary, What they should have done is build in a heal penalty to STR stacking itself instead of nerfing armor to force healers to light armor and the healing nerfs. Like targeting the problem directly.
The damage coefficient on the Focus weapons has always been lower than it should be but now, combined with all the nerfs it is truly pathetic for soloing.
Good luck getting a healer for Amrine in the FSS. There are not enough kid brothers you can talk into being a healer and always carry in PvE duo questing to fill the need. Thereās just no way Iām soloing a healer this time around.
IMO, ESO does healers right. As a Warden main, I can heal, tank a little, and DPS. Itās something I enjoy doing because I contribute in dungeons and trials with a very active combat play style. When I roam the open world, Iām self sufficient to take on world bosses and harder group content. Best of all, the combat of a healer is fluid. Super fun game to play as a healer.
New World unfortunately doesnāt offer any such experience for healers. Life Staff abilities have long cool downs, forcing you to light attack spam to reduce the timers and keep those heals up. Ground targeting is janky and can be challenging when you canāt see the floor. Close-quarter combat is horrible. Staves often fire off on a tangent when an enemy is to close, missing the shot. And then thereās the animation locks and slow animation recovery. Itās very difficult to enjoy playing as a healer.
If AGS puts combat on their high priority list and if they can bring healing to the same level that ESO has, I would totally convert over. However, given the above problems + only two weapons that scale with focus, I just canāt. I play intelligence instead. I have access to a wide variety of weapons, great element damage output, great damage, and I can use potions and food for heals, plus dodging. If I want to heal because Iām tiered of waiting in the lobby, Iāll put gear on with focus stat. That will boost me up to ~200 focus and I find that good enough for healing, plus swap to void gauntlet and rip enemies to shreds due to the focus/int scaling. For open world though? I would never touch life staff.
Switched to DPS and couldnāt be happier, life is so much easier and fun.
Reasons for quitting healing:
- Clunky targeting system
- Bad UI for healing, lack of information
- Lack of build/weapon variety
- LS is boring to heal with imho
- LS has a lot of dead talents
- Blessed as a perk should be deleted
