I am lvl 43 now and im going to take a break from the game until New World enables players that have already done the quest to join me. This game isn’t actually alt friendly ;);)
so why the hell would u guys implement a feature that prevents players who have already done “A heros duty” to join me? what were u thinking?
I managed to kill it relatively easily at 50 (admittedly I felt overleveled).
I killed everything in the cave, aggroed Yonas and brought him back to the beginning of the cave.
I use Sword + Shield & Great Axe
99% of his attacks are blockable or avoidable, and when he stopped to use his heal he is able to be stunned ( shield bash worked wonders, just ‘dodged’ into his range and shield bashed him) but pulls such as Reap don’t work.
Keeping in mind what I find relatively easy, I am an avid gamer and typically don’t even bother with normal modes. For the average or casual player this can probably be considered overtuned content and at the very least the respawn rates in the cave should be considerably lowered.
If you think this is bad (it is), wait until A Selfless Nature (aka the Well Guardian).
Terrible quest design.
Hey, following up here for anyone interested. Just completed this tonight after multiple failed attempts. Someone suggested up-thread to clear part of the way, and use a ranged attack to pull the boss mob all the way back to the door and fight him there. This helped immensely, so for anyone else having issues I’d recommend trying that.
I was at level 49 with hatchet and hammer, 436 GS, 188 Str, 87 Con. Medium equipped, 1005.8 Phys resist, 766.7 magic resist.
At least once he bugged out and healed a chunk of HP without casting his big red pulsing AOE that heals at the end. The pushback from the pulsing AOE is a huge pain, and you need a ranged stun or something like Berserk from Hatchet to ignore it and burn through it.
This quest is simply ridiculous.! The assigned level of the quest is far too low for the mobs 43 vs 48, main and corrupted area. The mobs respawn rate is stupidly high, the boss’s reheal is way OP. And the combination of mobs, ranged attacks, corruption damage, a super healing boss with killer AOE and that the area is locked to only those who are on that quest, make a joke of the main quest line. If, as others here have said, that you need to have a particular weapon combo… then getting that should be part of the prior main quest chain.
You can ‘dodge’ into his attack and other attacks like these, just a heads up. Gets you close enough for shield slams like I use.
What you mean like how they literally start every character regardless of spawn point with a sword & shield? lol
I registered just to add my voice to the existing comments. This quest is ridiculous for a healer character without a way to stun. It’s virtually impossible to get help, the recommended level is a joke. Making this part of the main quest… really?

Heavy armour healer at level 55, level 20 life staff and using heavy axe. The boss can’t kill me but I can’t kill him. It’s pointless trying to fight him. Thanks Amazon. How about you hire some game devs? I’m not bothering with the main storyline until this is fixed.
I am level 46 trying this and the guys I just killed spawn behind me within seconds of me killing them so I’ve only gotten to the boss once and all the adds spawn making it impossible for me to even try to solo him. I came here from google searching for any ideas on how I am supposed to run this, I am running sword/shield and life staff. I am about to uninstall this game, its between this and another quest I can not solo because of the respawn rate. It’s super frustrating.
I’m level 49, rapier/bow build. Light armor. I’m not a game aficionado, I don’t want to spend hours re-working my skills (no other weapons are lvled up right now) just to take this guy out. This is the first time with this game I’ve felt totally under-prepared, and it’s extremely frustrating. I completely understand those folks who uninstalled this game just based on this quest.
Devs, if nothing else PLEASE let me bring my guildies in for this quest. It makes NO SENSE to restrict it to only people who have the quest at one particular time. Why punish your players this way? I thought this game was based on creating experiences in groups (Companies, Factions, Wars, Invasions, etc…). Help me with your logic here or adjust it.

This + Well guardian should at worst be instances that require someone in the party to have the quest. However I feel they should both be weakened and/or the barrier to enter completely removed. There is no reason to have a boss where players need someone to be at the same point in the quest as them to help out if the boss isn’t soloable.

As someone who is playing though with a group of 6 people, we are now at different points in the story because we had no idea how hard/idiotic/involved/badly designed this was.
Focus healer spec over here and I usually feel like a god (albeit a squishy one because I like my roll and think it’s dumb to wear heavy because the gems are broken).
This quest is frustrating and an overall failure.
Please fix. I feel like all the fixes lately are PVP oriented, and I’m over here struggling to play the basic story of the game.
Devs please respond or at bare minimum acknowledge receipt of our frustrations.
One of the developers did respond to me on this quite a while ago and specifically said “Thanks for bringing this to our attention, we will look into the quest and if needed make adjustments to the difficulty of the encounter.”
But that was in mid October/early October.
This broken quest is still HUGELY overtuned and you cannot bring in anyone to help you that is no on the quest so I cant have a company mate who is max level and has completed it previously to help me. How on earth can the devs push a game like that you can’t even progress on the main story line solo?
This quest was the nail in the coffin for this game and I, as if it’s a MAIN STORY. Absolutely ridiculous
I too was very frustrated by this quest. I’ve been running fire staff/ice gauntlet and couldn’t do it at 60. I also tried FS/hatchet and FS/LS and couldn’t do it. Finally after reading this, I tried FS/Spear at the recommendation of my adult children that both did this using a spear secondary.
I killed the mobs in the front part of the cave, pulled him to the front and killed him fairly quickly with a couple of fire staff hits followed by spear interrupts. I was running with ~300 Int & 100 Con. I also used a Sapphire in the spear to get some Int based Arcane damage.
It’s definitely broken when it takes such a specific set up to kill him but it is doable.
Ended up doing the same with life staff and spear. I pulled him to the front, stood in my healing orb, and just stun-locked him while getting pelted by the wiggly, flaccid tendril attacks.
So dumb… just open up the area or remove the quest lol. I get it’s a new game, but please update this quest for others that will follow.
