As a developer who is also product manager I cannot imagine to turn off my customers server’s in middle of peak hours… With all do respect… But could AGS keep at least minimum of being professional? For me that kind of behaviour is unacceptable even for students that starts their journey with IT.
This game is first project where I’ve seen all worst practices of IT project including:
Testing on production
Not having regression tests
Not having performance tests
Not having endurance tests
Bugs on production that even 3 year child would find in 30 min
Turning off product in the middle of day
Not having plan or roadmap, just full ad hoc yolo
Lack of trained customer service
Lack of communication with customers
Disregard to customer feedback
Selling broken feature (better sell not existing feature that will be only promise for months than release it broken!)
Thanks for reading my feedback. I hope you take it as constructive criticism not toxic unhappy customer feedback.
Edit: If AGS has problem with being unable to fix game, release the source code. Our modding community will fix it for you.
They already shut servers down during wars, we are lucky they made it sooner. If it is urgent, it is urgent, makes no sense waiting for when tere is less people online. Let them work in peace while they still do.
arent you happy when they fix something ?
i dont get it why people get mad about it.
yes you are working hard from 9-17, also doing the devs in another timezone
you want them to respect your time, you should also respect theire time too
go breath some fresh air cook a meal or whatever, honestly this is nonsense
I don’t force anyone to do crunch. Just to proper communication, and trust me you don’t need all dev team to do release. Only few DevOps who usually works at night anyway because this is their role specification. Plus on Amazon cloud they can fully script release cycle and do it fully automatic way. But AGS probably don’t use their mother company own features anyway.
i mean iam not a developer, but i think i know the difference between a hotfix or just a fix that goes to the weekly update/patch
they are fixing serverperformance with lags, why should they tell this important fix 24h hours before when they can do it now ? right before wars etc this is huge step and wars can be normal later.
there are many more devs in other games that pushes hotfixes without announcments, i played many games in my life where this happend and it feels pretty normal, if you do it with your customers and let them play a broken game as long as possible then this is your thing
but fixing something important should be done as soon there is a solution even without an announcement
You don’t understand. Pushing unplanned release in 99.99% of cases means they release untested code. So in this kind of complex computer programs there is very high probability they break 5 another things. It is not simple website where you correct typo on main page, we are talking about living environments with multilayer stochastic algorithms where changing variable from 1 to 1.0001 on input to any of those may break almost everything. Hotfix 6 days after major release, that was not on schedule means problems.
