I love playing tank in all games, but new world tanks are underperforming, dont get much constribution in OPR and have a bad time tanking against a lot of ranged split up mobs.
Problem
“Defensive formation” - While blocking reduce dmg to all allies of 2 meters by 30%
So this is the ultimate defender skill. The current meta just takes “Leadership” which increases the dmg by 10% all the time for all team members.
While the defender skill just works within 2 meter raduis with a cooldown and can be easily broken with stuns or slaps.
The defender skill is simply useless other than looking cool.
The Change
Make “defensive formation” project a shield to the sides and top (like Reinhardt from overwatch).
The shield deflects projectiles for the costs of stamina like a normal block would do.
Deflected projectiles generate additional threat.
Why
PVP: Gives the tanks a great tactical use in OPR like blocking the doorway while capturing or securing a point, same in wars. Add “blocked dmg” to the OPR ratings.
PVE: The pain of tanking ranged mobs is simply annoying. You have 2 taunts with 20 seconds cooldown and no way but running up and hitting the ranged mobs.
Deflecting projectiles should generate threat and make these mobs attack the tank.
Even though I do agree on tanks should be more usefull in pvp and need alot of improvement.
That said change the defensive formation to an barrier shield skill, I dont personally like very much.
My Changes:
Defensive formation:
(New effect) Not blocking, reduce all allies damage taken by 10% (100m radius)
While blocking, reduce all damage allies take within (2m) to 3m by 30%.
Leadership:
While holding a sword increase all allies damage by 10%.
(New effect) Critical hit, all allies within 10m gain a grit effect for 3sec.
I like both suggestions but what I really want to see is tanking credit given in pvp.
On launch i was an early full con defender tree tank. PVE was a joy. PVP was a joy.
I would push on to points soaking damage and protecting team mates and felt quite pivotal in taking and defending of points.
That is until the stat screen woukd come up at the end. I had minimum DPS amd no other rewarding metrics putting me if not in the bottom 3rd then dead last.

In the same way healers have metrics.
Ive seen it in other games like SWTOR. Tanking in PVP although beneficial to the team has no individual ranking benefit.
