Lots of people will hate me for this but WOW was the best MMORPG for so long due to a number of reasons until Blizzard changed it to the average game it is now.
Just to make clear, I am not comparing the 2 games, just pointing out what worked in the past and what could work here as well.
1: The scale. The map in NEW WORLD is nowhere near as big as the one in WOW and that’s understandable as it is a new game. However there is no sense of scale in NW. You fight the same mobs again and again until you tire out. Nothing feels special anymore after you kill the same NPC from lvl 10 till lvl 60. I would like to see the world has more diversity, not just in terms of enemies, but mysticism as well. While the visuals are great, it doesn’t feel like you are exploring a magical world, it still feels like a game on a screen.
2: The community. The community in NW is trying their best to cope with the game but we are losing players fast and this is not good. The community has a strong relation with PVP, PVE and roleplaying as a whole and in NW these 3 are hard to combine.
3: PVP. One of the main problems with this game, is that factions are just a mechanic. There is no immersion, no reason to fight for your faction other than QOL changes. If the factions would be more unique, each player that belongs to that factions will be more driven to fight in wars, to make his banner mean something.
Another PVP issue is world PVP. Since factions mean nothing, world pvp is hardly accepted by players, especially in a world where farming is king. If you make profession lvl-ing easier, world PVP would not be so bad since you won’t need as many resources.
The world would feel more dangerous, more alive and rewarding, knowing you survived the trip. As it is now, the only danger is other players stealing your orichalcum…
I for instance, do not feel I belong anywhere in this game. Houses are just convenient means to travel and increase storage + crafting, that’s it. The problem with the factions expands as every faction is basically under a cease fire in every town. If every faction would have a set starting location then fight over resources, settlements, it would bring so much flavor to the world, instead we fight in wars…for what?
As a change, make each faction have their own starting territory. Towns in these territories cannot get stations past lvl 3, only captured towns can be upgraded so you are incentivized to capture territories. Each starting faction town can have its own architecture to match the faction, not the copy paste we have with WW and Morningdale. PVP will be active at all time after lvl 20. Until then, players below lvl 20 will be under cease fire in the starting areas only so they can still visit each town to decide what faction they want to join. Starting areas will always have PVP on for lvl 60 players and the towns that can be captured, players will have PVP off to maintain the same gameplay mechanics.
4: This brings us to another problem which is the ambient music. Listen, I like the music in New World, but having a similar sound theme for every area, every dungeon, every town makes me turn it off.
If you can give this game some spark of life with unique areas with unique mobs, add more depth and scale to them and improve the ambient sound, it will feel 10 times better. Combine this with PVP and you will have a game that feels alive and players will want to be part of it.
5: Lore. I am not talking only about the story, but the quests, the way NPC’s interact with the players and overall feeling with the story. There are hardly any cinematics that makes the story relevant, the quests are bland and there are no important characters in this game.
If you manage to make players to want to be part of the story and the world, you already have a long lasting game that doesn’t need an endless grind.
Call me whatever you want, say I should go back to other games. The thing is, this game still has potential, but it needs a lot of work and the devs don’t seem to want to change it, they wish to continue with the recipe for disaster
