Make the game more alive

Lots of people will hate me for this but WOW was the best MMORPG for so long due to a number of reasons until Blizzard changed it to the average game it is now.

Just to make clear, I am not comparing the 2 games, just pointing out what worked in the past and what could work here as well.

1: The scale. The map in NEW WORLD is nowhere near as big as the one in WOW and that’s understandable as it is a new game. However there is no sense of scale in NW. You fight the same mobs again and again until you tire out. Nothing feels special anymore after you kill the same NPC from lvl 10 till lvl 60. I would like to see the world has more diversity, not just in terms of enemies, but mysticism as well. While the visuals are great, it doesn’t feel like you are exploring a magical world, it still feels like a game on a screen.

2: The community. The community in NW is trying their best to cope with the game but we are losing players fast and this is not good. The community has a strong relation with PVP, PVE and roleplaying as a whole and in NW these 3 are hard to combine.

3: PVP. One of the main problems with this game, is that factions are just a mechanic. There is no immersion, no reason to fight for your faction other than QOL changes. If the factions would be more unique, each player that belongs to that factions will be more driven to fight in wars, to make his banner mean something.

Another PVP issue is world PVP. Since factions mean nothing, world pvp is hardly accepted by players, especially in a world where farming is king. If you make profession lvl-ing easier, world PVP would not be so bad since you won’t need as many resources.

The world would feel more dangerous, more alive and rewarding, knowing you survived the trip. As it is now, the only danger is other players stealing your orichalcum…

I for instance, do not feel I belong anywhere in this game. Houses are just convenient means to travel and increase storage + crafting, that’s it. The problem with the factions expands as every faction is basically under a cease fire in every town. If every faction would have a set starting location then fight over resources, settlements, it would bring so much flavor to the world, instead we fight in wars…for what?

As a change, make each faction have their own starting territory. Towns in these territories cannot get stations past lvl 3, only captured towns can be upgraded so you are incentivized to capture territories. Each starting faction town can have its own architecture to match the faction, not the copy paste we have with WW and Morningdale. PVP will be active at all time after lvl 20. Until then, players below lvl 20 will be under cease fire in the starting areas only so they can still visit each town to decide what faction they want to join. Starting areas will always have PVP on for lvl 60 players and the towns that can be captured, players will have PVP off to maintain the same gameplay mechanics.

4: This brings us to another problem which is the ambient music. Listen, I like the music in New World, but having a similar sound theme for every area, every dungeon, every town makes me turn it off.

If you can give this game some spark of life with unique areas with unique mobs, add more depth and scale to them and improve the ambient sound, it will feel 10 times better. Combine this with PVP and you will have a game that feels alive and players will want to be part of it.

5: Lore. I am not talking only about the story, but the quests, the way NPC’s interact with the players and overall feeling with the story. There are hardly any cinematics that makes the story relevant, the quests are bland and there are no important characters in this game.

If you manage to make players to want to be part of the story and the world, you already have a long lasting game that doesn’t need an endless grind.

Call me whatever you want, say I should go back to other games. The thing is, this game still has potential, but it needs a lot of work and the devs don’t seem to want to change it, they wish to continue with the recipe for disaster

I absolutely agree with this. The lack of PvP dynamics make the experience repetitive. Everything feels too safe. Nothing exciting happens as you grind/level up. What’s the purpose of grinding if that only works to grind more?

I think this game is unique in the sense that has the opportunity of bringing so many cool dynamics to the table. It’s sad for me to see that these great mechanics are being wasted in repetitive runs and activities.

Your post was flawless up to this point. After that all went downhill, there are people like me that are fighting for factionless characters so we don’t ever touch pvp, if you’re not aware, there are people that don’t like to play pvp, what doesn’t mean it can’t exist. So auto-enabling pvp is a game breaker for most of players.
Both pve and pvp need improvement yes, but taking away the choice of what to play only will make things worst

This is only an idea that can be expanded. However a PVE only server can be made for PVE only players. Unfortunately I can’t think of an option to make world pvp better without enabling PVP automatically

The soft solution I see to this is to really incentivize people to turn on PvP flag. Like, give a bigger bonus or smth.

such bonus thing was already attempted and only created more friction between both comunities

Yeah, the 15 square mile map New World delivered is pretty tiny. Also, they need PvP servers because the battleground approach of OPR and ‘War’ is pretty lame.

For me, what makes it all not work is that ownership is in the world for something that takes place in a battleground. That detachment breaks PvP entirely. Move the ownership to the PvP area, or make the world PvP. Don’t do this weak hybrid split.

I have given some thought and one idea would be to enable PVP for all players that have a war pending. Both the attacking and defending faction will have PVP on automatically until the war is over. This will make PVP available only during war times, so not 24/7. Another option is to allow people that don’t join a faction to enable PVP at will, same as it is now. The only downside is you cannot join a war or invasion, but can still join OPR.

In my opinion, a good change would be to remove the cease fire from the attacking faction in the town they are attacking. After all, it doesn’t make much sense for an attacker to be welcomed in that city, does it? This will give players the choice to wait until the war is over, fight over the town with the defending faction until the war is over, or simply choose to upgrade stations in the cities they own as a back up. This way more cities will have higher tier stations, and remove some of the cash flow that falls into EF and WW

If you don’t lose anything dying, and when is so easy to scape…whats the problem with the PVP always enabled? you even have the camp to revive. Sorry but this feels so snowflake to me.

I even gave the idea of certain number of kills to progress to the next main quest. But all Pve players cry so much hahah I almost got killed for that comment lol

You still lose time. If you are in pve mode with your gathering gear on but are forced into pvp because your company (it definitely should not be faction) is having an upcoming war once again you are forcing players to do something they do not want.

If they have only a few hours a day or week to play and half that time is lost in returning to their preferred spot you have still taken something from them they cannot get back, time. In this situation you are just a griefer.

Just accept that there are pvpers, pveers and people that do both. I’m more pve but engage in team pvp. In fact one of my most enjoyable moments in NW was just the other night when we held Malev against the other 2 factions for some time before being crushed under superior numbers. It was organic open world pvp. And we died with joy!

So stop thinking people are snowflakes because their time is more valuable to them than letting you so heroically gank them.

That just show how you are short sighted and can only see your own nose, also short minded that can’t think of anything else but yourself. What if to be able to toggle pvp on for 5 minutes, you would need to do 5 hours of gathering, questing and crafting? I bet you wouldn’t be happy. The point is, everyone has their own idea of fun, so you can’t label people just because they don’t wanna play with you the way you imagined. Just grow a bit and be more constructive.

Your ideas are sound, but I would go further. I would entirely strip the damn factions and keep only companies, also strip the level requirement to be able to toggle on/off button, so to be able to turn on or off pvp, only requirement is join a company.

I think the idea of factions is what makes a big part of the New World offer original. I wouldn’t delete them, but I would add more conflict within fations. However, that’s just one of many things that could be done to improve PvP.

Unless it’s “Get a 500k gold for being flagged for an hour outside a settlement”, you’ll never get me into ‘Unstructured PVP’.
