Hey there, I have never played tank in any mmo’s and i’m not that familiar with mmo’s. So i will be using SnS and swap between hatcet, GA and WH. What perks do i need especially on the shield, is sturdy a must? Does the chain ice for example work with the carnelian ? Was thinking of using the event sword because of luck.
And could you guys give me tips on how to tank effectively, And do you know if the downscaling of gearscore is implemented?
Right, so apart from the obvious like tower shield your secondary weapon also determines what perks you should get.
From what youve listed I only use hammer for tanking for which the most key perk to have is Sundering shockwave - aoe rend.
Basically,
you want 300 con (not more not less)
you want to stack fortify (eg. keen fortify),
you want to have more stamina (sturdy),
you want faster refreshing stamina (nimble),
you want to provide some sort of debuff for your team that you can keep on enemies, best is rend (eg. sundering shockwave)
you wanna put onyx in all your gear as encounters are heavily skewed into physical damage
Be aware that “Sturdy shield” perk adds armor only to your shield, the description is missleading so you can use that point elsewhere.

I was thinking of going into the swordmaster tree, to give all party members 10% more damage and only have the taunt and a few passiv’s in the other tree. If that is viable.
Many say that 200 con is enough for both genesis and lazarus or do you just feel too squishy ?
And i have also i have got a round shield “Lightstorm’s Protector” with 50% block stability and sturdy, is that a bug, or is that good enough ?
If it says round shield and not tower shield I wouldnt trust it, to be honest.
There are lengthy debates all around this forum and reddit about how much CON you need. Yes with 200CON you can tank any expedition, but it’s not gonna make it easy for your healer, I’ve ran 200 CON for some time and it’s fine, but you dont really feel like this immortal force of nature.
As for swordmaster - its a no… +10 dmg for party sounds nice, you clear stuff faster but you give up so many good perks in defender tree to even get there…
There are two common builds for tanks
First uses reverse stab, shield bash and defiance stance. The whole point of this one is to use CD reset reverse stab offers, if you manage to hit 4 enemies your cds will reset, which is quite powerful.
Second uses shield rush, shield bash, defiance stance. This build is about spamming shield rush which with perks keeps fortify on you all the time and slows and weaken mobs around you.
I would say First is better when theres more mobs around, second is better in boss encounters and overall is easier as you can keep 3 separate debuffs up all the time kinda.
I prefer first build as I find shield rush clunky, the windup, animation and I play solo a lot too.
