Mass report exploiting vs AGS neesd to clarify what's griefing

So, I posted this:

It was an honest attempt to get another perspective. So far, I see none.

Now I am asking a support question, to ensure my understanding of what’s is griefing to AGS NW and the game conduct: are any of the following activities considered griefing and against the game conduct:

  1. are there any limits on how many times a player can kill the same player?
For example, if the player that got killed comes back 10 times to the same area or respawn on the same camp that has pvp activity, and gets killed 10 times again, is it griefing to AGS understanding? What about 100 times or 1000 times?

  2. Edit to satisfy everyone, a similar scenario as above. A player got killed X number of times. The player asks to be left alone, but he/she keeps the pvp flag on and says on the same area. Is this to be considered griefing if the other player does not comply and keeps killing the player who asked to be left alone?

  3. are there any conditions where a flagged player is not supposed to be killed?
For example, he was downed by an NPC and you opportunistically got the “full death” killing brow?
Another example, he was downed doing elite boss content and another player was waiting in safe distance to musket snipe and get the full death killing blow?
Another example, some number of players downed by an elite boss and you use hammer path to do the killing blow to many players at the same time?

  4. are there any conditions where a player should not engage/attach another player flagged?
Example: using muskets from the rooftop of myrk buildings? or from rocks on reek pools?

  5. do you have any example of pvp engagement that can be considered griefing, harassment and bullying to warrant a ban?

  6. if you can watch the video, can you tell me if there is anything on this video that could be considered griefing, harassment, and bullying to warrant a ban? New World - Open World PvP That'll get you banned - YouTube

  7. considering the similar activity of the above video happening for over a week, could this be considered griefing, harassment, and bullying to warrant a ban?

My questions are very important for me and my company and possibly others, so we can understand clearly the rules and avoid being reported and banned for playing pvp.

Thank you.

If they answer yes to any of these. Then they should just remove PvP from the game. Because its not going to work lol.

Those are very good questions and we should get some insight of what AGS institute as ‘griefing’ or ‘trolling’, as those are very generic words with subjective definitions.

From their ToS

Do not : engage in behaviors that reduce or disrupt the enjoyment of the game for others. This includes spamming chat, griefing, throwing matches, boosting, win-trading, trolling, or spoiling the game by sharing unreleased or confidential materials.

Thank you. I am really looking forward to their answer. Feel free to add more scenarios/questions and share to improve our chance of getting word from AGS.

When you press U you accept to be killed by any enemy player, by any means.
That’s the way I see it.

Number 6 on your list clearly proves mass reporting works.

I am sure it works at a minimum to bring it to the support team’s attention and if the support team does not have the proper tools to evaluate the matter “wrong” decisions might be made.

I’ve worked on support a lot, both on-field and managing support teams, I can appreciate the challenge of having to deal with the massive number of reports and the effort it would take to do proper checks on all of them. It’s a learning process.

My question here is to be 100% sure none that we did was a breach of ToS, so we can properly address this within our community (company, faction, server) and also help AGS to improve their system and “fix” our case.

Edit: “address this within our community”, although might not be a sure fix, it’s the most short-term action we can take to try to improve this problem. I would give enough people the benefit of the doubt, that once AGS makes this clear enough people will follow the rules and not mass report something clearly not a breach of ToS, enough to make the mass reports be less effective to produce bad bans. If it happens that we are wrong, what we were doing is a breach of ToS, we can adapt and play differently (or quit the game, if the rules become too strange for a pvper to have fun).

I really don’t understand the posts like “I want PvP bonuses but without PvP mechanics and risks ” It is not like other games where you have permantly the PvP activated or you must go really far to activate/deactivate it. If PvP ruins your experience… You can press U and play/farm happy, it is a respectable way

Straight up.

  1. I want to kill you until you log off/uninstall the game. Then I have won.
  2. I’m hard as plymouth rock while I continue killing you.
  3. No.
  4. No
  5. No.
  6. No
  7. No.

They just need to make open world a good game, but thats a whole different video game away so enjoy what we got.

If someone opts into PvP, IMO, they should expect PvP to happen.

Someone might be a real jerk spawn camping or ganking or sniping someone over and over, but the solution for the target is very simple and 100% effective.

the moment you turn pvp on you lose all right to complain if you get killed. regardless of how often or how many people kill you. PvP is optional in this game, if you don’t want to get killed ->turn pvp off.

Example: My guild is currently the strongest on my server, we run all elite zones on a regular basis and we always kill everyone that has pvp on on sight, no mercy nothing. We already had 2-3 times the case that a single player from a different faction was running with us and got to loot all the chests in the elite zones for more or less free. Their trick? PvP off. We though it was kinda funny and smart. That player even stayed with our group when his faction with pvp on came. (Btw we also got our asses handed to us when we went mines with 12 people found 3-4 from another faction, killed them and 10min later they rallied their people and crushed our group, nobody was salty we just went another way and said: “ok this time the mine is theirs”)

Griefing has nothing to do with pvp, sure you can be an asshole and kill 2 people with your 20 man 100 times but that is the game. after eacht death you can respawn in a town and just turn pvp off

Open World PvP and griefing are basically indistinguishable especially if groups are just continuously zerging around and killing the same player(s).

That is why any kind of owpvp must be very carefully set up, and New World does not have that set up because it tries to put non-PvP elements there. Eastern MMOs figured out the formula a long time ago but AGS just insists on failing in the same ways all other owpvp games failed.

Ok serious Answer to the questions.

  1. No there should not be any limit to how many times you kill a player. Two of you are trying to farm nodes you are the b better PvPer and kill your rival 10 times as he tries to take the nodes you’re farming. That’s gameplay. If they can report you for griefing and you get banned just for string to assert dominance to farm when they also chose to flag farm that would be bad. The only time Griefing could be a possibility is if you where to vocally express your desire to hunt and kill the person 24/7 no matter where they are and/or set a bounty for their death/location. That would be intentional harassment.

  2. No being asked to be left alone should not be a withdrawal of consent to PvP if you wish to remove consent to PvP then you can Deflag/Turn PvP off. The game literally has a System to allow you to be left alone. Flagging for PvP is Risk vs Reward and you should not be able to game the system by being asked to be left alone.

  3. No that again is Risk Vs Reward. when entering PvP you have to expect that this can happen.

  4. Some of the Best Myrkguard fights have happened when the other team engage you there with snipers It’s been great fun. Even complimenting each others side with awesome shots/ long shot grenade sticks between rooftops. Distracting the other side while your mele friend sneaks up behind them and kills them. Its all great fun. Baiting them as a healer and watching 5 of them struggle and fail to take you down as a heavy healer. As long as the area they are getting to does not require exploit and any person can climb/reach that point with basic game mechanics then there should not be any issue.

  5. Refer to point 1.

  6. Why would anything in that video be bannable. That’s the literal definition of open-world PvP you get the height advantage find your targets and kill. Again along as your not exploiting to get to your location and using basic climbing mechanics to get to your spot then you’re just playing smarter.

  7. Flagging PvP is Risk vs Reward. Flagging is not just an entitled 10% luck buff that you should be left alone to use.
