Thank you for your dev blocks, community interaction, and the regular YouTube dev blogs. There are few games that do interact with their community and customers as much as I have seen with New World.
I presume this is the spot for feedback, but Iâm not going to be specific on this patch alone, instead my experience so far.
I began New World on your last âFree Weekendâ that you had. I downloaded, turned off the chat and immersed myself into the game.
When that weekend was over, I was so involved in what I played, I couldnât not want to buy it. I understand some people are different and some had different experiences when this game first launched, but my experience was only from that last âFree Weekendâ.
To be honest, my first suggestion would be more free weekends to get new players interested, or have a free to play until level 10 option, so new players can download for free, play for free until level 10. If they havenât fallen in love with New World by then, then it isnât for them.
Coming from Guild Wars 2, I truly believe that you need to adopt some of their ideas. The first would be the double tap in the direction you want to dodge to dodge/roll instead of using LSHIFT. This would free up LSHIFT to be able to be used as a sprint. Sprint would of course use the same stamina bar as the dodge/roll option does.
You could even introduce double jump option in some skills or abilities in the future or a hold down to jump higher option. Donât have to, just throwing the jumping idea out. Speaking of jumping, jumping puzzles from GW2 would work well in NW imho. GW2 glider would be a good addition to glide to places we normally couldnât get to, as well as give map developers ideas for secret areas and hard to get to places.
Pantheon is in alpha/beta and has an ability of climbing. This is something that New World could easily do and get the jump on before Pantheon releases. Climbing (not all surfaces, just special rocks and ladders etc) would also introduce more for level designers to be able to play with, thus also making New World better in the process for us all.
Swimming⌠kind of is a must. In my experience to level 60 (almost GS625) of New World, no matter what level I got to, I still wanted to be able to swim. Now, NW doesnât have to do underwater content or combat yet (aka GW2 for ideas there), all they need to do is add a swimming animation, make us at first not be able to dive underwater, just float on the top, and we have our current stamina bar for how far we can swim before we die. The drowning mechanic would become obsolete but you would leave that in there for when you do eventually tackle the underwater swimming/combat/adventures. So as I said, for now, there is a simple swimming option that could be done for NW, stamina for how far, float on top (not sink to bottom) and swimming animation.
Speaking of death⌠and coming from GW2, I was kind of disappointed to lose the GW2 âfight for survivalâ mechanic. Being used to it for so long, it was hard to get used to the instant death. The fight for survival mechanic if youâre not familiar with it is that your character is down, on the ground, reaching out for help (aka resurrection (which youâve already got in the game)). There is a couple of simple attack option which donât do much health but can give a final blow to a mob that you were killing etc. There is a timer and if you are not resurrected before the timer you die. This could be added, or a variation of this to NW without too much problem imho. But isnât needed. After getting to level 60 in NW without it, I am used to not having it. Just putting this paragraph in as it still is a nice thing GW2 has which NW could have too.
Mounts. Yes, I know, we have shrines everywhere, three houses and an inn. But I still want a horse that I can punch in the face. Like Red Dead Redemption 2. Now I do not want flying mounts, flying mounts make the world too small. Gliding mounts are fine. But really, again, please look at how GW2 has done their mount system as it could be amazing for NW and level designers of NW. Each mount in GW2 has a specific function. Be it a raptor to run fast or a bunny to bounce high or a manta-ray to glide over water. No two are for the same thing. That said, GW2 makes TONS of money from customisation, mount skins. So you could buy a Kangaroo skin to apply to your bunny. A chocobo skin to apply to your raptor. Etc and so on.
Endless possibilities and cash for GW2 which Amazon could be doing with Mounts, and non combat pets, and clothing and skins (much like you are doing, but youâre missing out on tons of money from all the clothing your town npcs wear which we too want to wear!). GW2 also has footprints which characters can leave which fade away. Theyâve made tons from various footprints on the shop. Giving you ideas to keep this game NOT pay to win, but pay to keep it up and running whilst entertaining us.
The above mount ideas, we should start with a horse. Something that fits into the world easily. You do not need to make the horse run fast. But if you do add one, I want to be able to punch it in the head so it can then turn around and kick me. RDR2⌠I know, it makes people watching my streams laugh. When we call our mounts, they should appear and disappear the same way RDR2 does (not vanish, but run in to the area from afar upon a whistle or run out away from your character to off the screen. Itâs more immersive). When entering a city, you should be forced off your mount. You can tie your mount up outside of a city. This will reduce any lag in the cities with multiple mounts running around.
Why bring up the mounts⌠the horse⌠A few reasons as already stated but also because you could create a jousting arena (or two). You could have jousting combat. Mounts could have combat options (refer to GW2 and how that works well with the game). I mention jousting as House of Dragon is out and that has jousting in a medieval setting which NW could milk off without mentioning the show at all.
Leveling from 1 to 60, I did enjoy. I hear you have revamped the first half of the leveling experience to make it better, thatâs great. I hope you include cut scenes and so on. Many MMOâs people will say, âThe End Game is the best partâ. You donât want your new players to not get there because either the leveling experience is bad, or they join and find out that there are a hundred and twenty levels due to multiple expansions (which is why I say keep the level at 60 and make it the best damn experience ever! And add expansions to the game that make the world bigger without increasing the level cap (you do that the world shrinks)). If you make it the best sixty levels ever put in to a game, youâll never need to put a level 60 boost option and your player base who are at level cap will encourage new players to play through and not skip the leveling experience as it is amazing.
So I made it to level 60, and began the grind of gear score. Which truly is a grind. Ooof. But if you donât increase the level cap, and the world keeps growing with more dungeons as more content comes out, then weâll be able to get more gypsums more quickly and be able to reduce this grind. So your gearscore grind also gets easier and faster as your world grows and all without increasing your level cap. But atm, I must say, the gs grind is definitely not my highlight of this game.
As of typing this, I have played for 1659 hours according to Steam and have received 86/133 achievements. Which is pleasing to see, but I notice some of these are unable to be obtained as they are bugs, aka lore pages not included in the world to collect. These kind of things need to be tested and ironed out (amongst other old bugs which arenât fixed that people are still complaining about). One old one that annoys me is in the crafting stations, the weapons menu pops up randomly. If youâre unable to find the issue, create a new craft button that sits on top of the current one and is Z ordered to the very top. Though a bandaid solution is better than an annoying bug, imho there should be a team testing all these old bugs to try and reproduce and fix as well as testing all achievements to make sure youâre not missing collectables.
New addition of Music (Bard) is brilliant but needs more added to it to make it more enjoyable. Such things could be random quests given by NPCs that you play near. They may hear you and say how great you are and they have a quest to find a teacher of xyz. More buffs are needed especially combat/defence type buffs. If you are wanting to turn the combat buffs into consumables then you could have something like the song sheet is there in your song list, but greyed out and unusable until you get the song written. You could have 10 blank sheets per 24 hours. Each 24 hour cycle you get 10 new blank sheets. These sheets you could write the song on for the buff â but â you can only do that whilst standing on the Maudling Bug Light areas around the world. Once on one of these spots, you could then choose WHICH of the songs you want to scribe into the sheet. A 10% defence buff? A 5% fire resistance buff? A 5% increase in damage buff? ---- You could have multiple music buffs you could scribe⌠but only 10 sheets⌠so you could do 10 x damage buff song or 5 x damage buff song and 5 x defence buff song. Doesnât matter what combo, you can only scribe 10 a day. HERE IS THE CATCH, you must play the song PERFECTLY for the top buff. The buff effectiveness scales with how good your performance is. â IT GETS WORSE! â When you use that buff, you must play that song (scribe will disappear after use) and if you play it perfectly you get that buff, but if not, it too scales down. So if you learn the song with the worst buff level 3%, then that 3% will be applied if you play the song perfectly for the group. If not it too scales downwards. You could use all these ten scribed songs in ten dungeon runs each day. Or, you could save them up. I would say bind on pickup but you could make them something able to be sold to other bards on the auction house or traded too. Bards need to be useful AND each Bard should be able to play a different buff without cancelling each others out. ---- SO THEREâS A FEW IDEAS FOR MUSIC FOR YOU TO CHEW OVER!
Fishing, I really enjoyed in this game. If you wanted to add variety you could have the fishing line pull to the left or the right and have to use the A and D keys to pull in the opposite direction. Just an idea, but I do like the fishing.
Housing, pretty cool. But would be great if we could buy the town pub and turn that into a Company house.
SETS. I will link to a video I did on my SETS idea: NEW WORLD SUGGESTIONS - YouTube
Itâs only 37 seconds, so please do watch.
Company Bank, I included that idea within the video link of SETS.
Level 1 Gold Seller Spam: I would have thought you guys would have added a filter for the continuous same gold sellers. NWGoldBuy. My block list is full of NWGoldBuy1 NWGoldBuy22 NWGoldBuy193 etc. Canât you just block the NWGoldBuy part in character creation? Why not have an online filter where if players report X for gold selling, the name goes into the online filter and filters it out for all? In fact, why not have an in game filter that we the player can use to filter out anything from chat with âBLA BLAâ ??? Your General Chat has turned into Trade Chat and it is most annoying. If we had a filter, we could add âWTSâ âWTBâ âBISâ etc in to our Gen Chat filter to remove things we do not want to see in General. If theyâre using Gen Chat for Trade, whatâs the point in Trade Chat? You have to choose Amazon, one or the other. If you are not going to do anything about the Trade spam in Gen, then just remove the Trade channel. 200 player limit for blocking is way too small and when you hit it, to clear your block list gives you RSI. Yeah, 200+ gold sellers.
YOUR FRIENDS LIST - WHAT AN ABSOLUTE DISASTER! THIS NEED URGENT ATTENTION! IT IS HORRID AND HALF THE TIME DOES NOT WORK AS INTENDED!
Group Finder, great addition, add it to the main menu as an option under the â+ Groupâ option. It needs to be in a place all can see and easy to use or no one will find it⌠or those that do, will wait forever for people to join. One Group Finder button that opens an option to choose what expedition you want. Speaking of expeditions, mutations you can click the normal to elite locked options and find out what GS is required, but on non mutation expedition page, you cannot click those buttons so canât find out GS required. CONSISTENCY. You need to keep your GUI consistent.
[EDIT]
With the Group Finder, we should be able to click on the players name and have THEIR character sheet pop up with THEIR gear on which we can mouse over. Basically what they see on their screen when they bring up their character sheet, gear score/average etc, all should show up when we click their name. This addition would stop people asking to spam their gear in chat.
[/EDIT]
[EDIT 2]
The above option mentions should also be worked into the H menu so we can INSPECT other players gear and stats (Unless opposite faction flagged for pvp).
[/EDIT 2]
Company - Need to able to create our own ranks, rename the ranks, and assign our own options to what ranks we create.
Mini Map - Should be an option. Your immersion excuse doesnât stop people from downloading an addon for it. You telling the addon creator to not list resources wonât stop people from loading up a webpage with them on them on a second monitor and thus break immersion anyways. May was well include it as an option imho. When I first began the game, I so wanted the minimap. even now, I keep opening the map and closing it to make sure I am going in the right direction which breaks immersion anyways.
In game clock - If youâre going to have special spawned music sheets at dusk or dawn, then we need to know exactly when that is going to be for the game. It may look like the sun is rising or setting, but not be classed as dusk or dawn in your spawn timer. Perhaps increase the time bracket for each of these so people can be sure theyâve caught it. Maybe also increase the drop rate of these rare music sheets too. Speaking of, you cannot finish the music achievements as thereâs not enough songs to learn in the game currently.
The Faction Influence off on option⌠you changed it making it auto off and auto on based on our PVP state. Some of us do not like that. Some of us PVE and want the PVP faction colours on the map on so we know where to go to sell or use town stations. You need to add a THIRD option: AUTO. OFF:AUTO:ON - If it is on AUTO, we use your new system. If it is OFF, it is OFF for good. If it is ON it is ON for good. Please consider this.
I was going to say you need to disable the G option for company page if in combat as sometimes we click it instead of F. But in the new update you are making that the Ultimate ability so this should fix itself.
Put âSunglassesâ on your shop for a Helm skin option. See how fast it will sell.
Put a âThong (Australian version of the Flip Flop)â on the shop for hatchet skin option. See how fast the Aussies buy it.
[EDIT 3]
Mailing system/Mail Box. Donât need mail boxes if you do a GW2 mailing system. That said, there is something to be said about walking to a mail box for immersion like WoW. We need to be able to send messages and mail things to our friends and company members instead of having to wait for the right time to catch them online at the same time as you.
[/EDIT 3]
[EDIT 4]
Silly, but⌠why canât we buy beer, wine and ale from the pubs? Why canât we get blind drunk in game for fun? Seems like a thing we should be able to do.
[/EDIT 4]
There are a lot of annoying bugs and things that have remained since its launch I am told. Imho, you really need to squash all of these. If youâre going to come back strong, I would suggest going back into BETA again but OPEN-BETA in fact, call it GAMMA. Still allow people to buy and do all that weâre doing, but this gives notice that you are fixing and not final. Once in GAMMA, continue what youâre doing with dev blogs etc and PTR etc. Squash all your bugs, and in a year come out swinging with the unbreakable perfect second release. A second coming of types. From there you can then look in to paid expansions and so on. Once again, free weekend is what got me in to this game. Do more free weekend events imho.
Thanks for reading, I think that is all that is on my mind at the moment and I hope some of it is helpful or some of it gives you some ideas. I do really like New World. Hope my input is helpful.
[EDIT 5]
Small GUI bug. Reproduceable. Go to Storage Shed door. Press TAB. Press E. Your health bar stamina bar and mana bar wonât move over to the left.
[/EDIT 5]
[EDIT 6]
I was just thinking about adding mounts to this world, itâs based around the corrupted and corruption. So what about a spook meter?
Like the horse gets more spooked in some areas and it builds up if faster if you get closer to a more corrupted area etc.
Be like another thing to watch when youâre using a mount and could work in well in NW allowing some areas to be too corrupted for a mount to enter.
Main roads of course would have no real spook factor.
PvP players could spook the horse so are unable to mount unless in a jousting arena or map designed for pvp mount battles.
[/EDIT 6]
[EDIT 7]
Silly suggestion: Piggyback System. This system would allow you to mount another player and be piggy backed by them at half their run speed. No advantages other than pure fun, entertainment value as well as no other MMO has done this.
[/EDIT 7]
[EDIT 8]
Another silly suggestion that wonât break the game: Turkey Mounts. Mounting a Turkey and running and jumping at half the speed of your walk. No other reason than pure fun and entertainment, laughs for viewers. Players could do in game piggy back races for gold rewards.
[/EDIT 8]
[EDIT 9]
If I neglected to mention it above, PvP Arenas and Dungeon Finder should be global picking from the server you are on first, then the lowest ping to fill queues.
/[EDIT 9]
[EDIT 10]
Housing Decorations Suggestions: Buy space for more items from shop. Ability to click walls, floors, ceilings and get a pop up menu of colours/carpets/floorboards etc, some are locked and can be unlocked by prime/crafting/shop.
[/EDIT 10]
